AT A GLANCE
Bungalow 5 furniture is not ordinary furniture. Our pieces are unique creations that impress, surprise and delight. From the first sketch to the finishing touch, we are committed to meticulous artistry. We represent the opposite of fast design. We take pride in process and constantly strive for perfection. In fact, many of our designs and finishes are nearly a decade in the making, as we hold off on introducing pieces until they are just right. Quality is fundamental to us. We have assembled the most highly-skilled and gifted craftsmen from around the world and are united in our dedication to creating unique, elevated and lasting home decor. Inspired by history, made for today, always reaching for the future, our aesthetic is rooted in a constant creative fusion and passion for bringing a modern perspective to classic luxury.
The hallmarks of Bungalow 5 products include the use of unexpected materials, exquisite craftsmanship and unique finishes. Since 2001, Bungalow 5 has worked with talented artisans and small manufacturers worldwide to create innovative products using materials such as lacquer, grasscloth, cerused oak and curved glass. Often, finishes take years to develop and reach company standards.
GRASSCLOTH From the beginning, we at Bungalow 5 were captivated by grasscloth; the unique variations in color and texture offer a refreshing change from the flat finishes that are commonplace in furniture today. Over the ensuing years, we have worked with craftsmen to develop treatments and detailing that make our collections truly special. Pieces like the Parsons feature a signature mitered corner, while the chevron-clad Brittany showcases grasscloth that has been seamlessly wrapped around corners and edges so the pattern is unbroken and continuous.
LACQUER Lacquer has been one of our defining materials since our very first collection, which burst onto the interior design scene in a riot of colors that, until then, had rarely been used in furniture. Our burnished lacquer finishes are pigmented and tinted to reflect trends in the larger world of design.
CERUSED OAK Cerusing oak was popular during the Art Deco period, but fell out of fashion after WWII. We love this finish because it emphasizes the organic nature of wood while bringing out its warm and subtle pattern. Over a 3 year period of trial and error, working with one of our factory partners, we succeeded in developing an environmentally friendly process utilizing water-based lacquers that assures a beautiful and consistent finish. When Bungalow 5 finally introduced its first cerused-oak collections, the Langham and Matisse in 2003 and 2004, it caused a quiet sensation. The finish was quickly picked up by others and now enjoys widespread popularity.
MIRROR Mirror is a magical material. By reflecting its surroundings, it disappears into a room, imparting a sense of space, while also drawing in light. Popularized during the Art Deco period, mirrored furniture has traditionally been made of flat pieces applied to a wooden substrate. We ve taken mirrored furniture in an entirely new direction. By working with our craftsmen we developed the ability to curve large pieces of mirror and apply them to furniture to create strikingly new silhouettes and styles.
STATUES Bronzed, gold leafed and impasto surfaces adorn our skillfully crafted statues. We use exquisite materials such as marble, iron and bronze to create decorative accessories that add a perfect touch to your home or office.
VASES Like jewelry for the home, our glass vases create colorful notes of luxury across the home. Our glassware features hand cut, mouth blown and hand chiseled artistry.
