1. Introduction General Customer satisfaction has absolute priority in the W&H quality policy. This W&H product has been developed, manufactured and subjected to final inspection according to legal regulations, quality norms and industry standards. For your safety and the safety of your patients Prior to initial use please read the Instructions for use. These explain how to use your W&H product and guarantee a smooth and efficient operation. Qualifications of the user We have based our development and design of the turbine handpiece / Roto Quick coupling on the dentists, dental hygienists, dental employees (prophylaxis) and dental assistants target group. 6

1. Introduction General Production according to EU Directive The turbine handpiece / Roto Quick coupling is a medical product according to the EU Directive 93/42/EEC. Operating malfunction of the turbine handpiece / Roto Quick coupling > Correct the malfunction as described in the»maintenance«section on pages 50 and 51. > If it proves impossible to correct the malfunction, please contact an authorized W&H service partner (see page 69). > Repairs must only be undertaken by an authorized W&H service partner. 7

1. Introduction Skilled application Skilled application The turbine handpiece / Roto Quick coupling is intended only for skilled application in the dental or medical field according to its purpose of use in compliance with the valid health and safety at work regulations, the valid accident prevention regulations as well as in compliance with these Instructions for use. The turbine handpiece / Roto Quick coupling should be prepared for use and maintained by staff who have been trained in procedures for infection control, personal safety and patient safety. Improper use, (e.g., through poor hygiene and maintenance), non-compliance with our instructions or the use of accessories and spare parts which are not approved by W&H, invalidates all claims under warranty and any other claims. 8

1. Introduction Intended use Intended use The dental turbine handpiece is intended for the following applications: Removal of decayed materials, cavities and crown preparation, removal of fillings, finishing of tooth and restoration surfaces. The Roto Quick coupling is intended for the following applications: Connector for media transfer (air, water, electricity and light) between the supply hose and the dental unit and air driven motors. Misuse may damage the turbine handpiece / Roto Quick coupling and hence cause risks and hazards for patient, user and third parties. 9

Introduction Responsibility of the manufacturer Responsibility of the manufacturer The manufacturer can only accept responsibility for the safety, reliability and performance of the turbine handpiece / Roto Quick coupling when it is used in compliance with the following directions: > The turbine handpiece / Roto Quick coupling must be used in accordance with these Instructions for use. > Only the components approved by the manufacturer may be replaced (rotor, O-rings, generator and water filter). > Repairs must only be undertaken by an authorized W&H service partner (see page 69). 10

2. Safety notes General > The operation of the turbine handpiece / Roto Quick coupling is permitted only on dental units which correspond to the standards IEC 60601-1 (EN 60601-1) and IEC 60601-1-2 (EN 60601-1-2). > Use only the supply hoses as specified by EN ISO 9168. > Use only the filtered, oil-free and cooled air supplied by dental compressors for drive air. > Run the rinse function for the dental unit once per day. > Always ensure the correct operating conditions and cooling function. > Always ensure that sufficient and adequate cooling is delivered and ensure adequate suction. > In case of coolant supply failure, the turbine handpiece must be stopped immediately. 11

2. Safety notes General > Check the turbine handpiece / Roto Quick coupling for damage and loose parts each time before using (e.g., push-button / leak tightness between the Roto Quick coupling and supply hose). > Do not operate the turbine handpiece / Roto Quick coupling if it is damaged / leaking. > Perform a test run each time before using. > Never touch the push-button of the turbine handpiece during operation or while it is still running down. > Do not use the turbine handpiece if there are soft tissue wounds in the mouth. The air pressure can cause septic substances to enter the tissue or trigger embolisms. > Do not touch the soft tissue with the turbine handpiece head (risk of burning due to the push-button heating up)! > Avoid overheating at the treatment site. 12

Safety notes General Hygiene and maintenance prior to initial use The turbine handpiece / Roto Quick coupling is in a clean condition and sealed in PE-film when delivered. > Lubricate the turbine handpiece. > Sterilize the turbine handpiece and the nozzle cleaner. > Oil service page 42 > Sterilization page 48 13

Safety notes TE-97 LQ / TE-98 LQ / RQ-53 / RQ-54 The turbine handpiece TE-97 LQ / TE-98 LQ may only be used with the Roto Quick coupling RQ-53 / RQ-54. > Avoid contact between LED and soft tissue (risk of burning due to the LED heating up). > Do not use the turbine handpiece as light sensor. > Do not look directly into the LED. The turbine handpiece / Roto Quick coupling is not suitable for use in oxygen enriched atmospheres. 14

Safety notes TE-97 LQ / TE-98 LQ / RQ-53 / RQ-54 Danger zones M and G In accordance with IEC 60601-1 / ANSI/AAMI ES 60601-1, the turbine handpiece / Roto Quick coupling is not suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres or with potentially explosive mixtures of anaesthetic substances containing oxygen or nitrous oxide. Zone M is defined as a»medical environment«and constitutes the part of a room in which potentially explosive atmospheres may form due to the use of anaesthetics or medical antiseptics and antibacterial soaps; such atmospheres are typically localized and temporary. Zone M comprises a truncated pyramid below the operating table which is tilted outwards at a 30 angle. Zone G, also known as an»enclosed medical gas system«, does not necessarily include areas enclosed around all sides, in which explosive mixtures are continuously or temporarily generated, directed or used in small quantities. 15

Safety notes TE-97 LQ / TE-98 LQ / RQ-53 / RQ-54 Risks due to electromagnetic fields The functionality of implantable systems, such as cardiac pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) can be affected by electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields. > Find out if patient and user have implanted systems before using the product and consider the application. > Weigh the risks and benefits. > Keep the product away from implanted systems. > Make appropriate emergency provisions and take immediate action on any signs of ill-health. > Symptoms such as raised heartbeat, irregular pulse and dizziness can be signs of a problem with a cardiac pacemaker or ICD. 16

4. Operation Assembly/Removal RQ-53 / RQ-54 Insert the Roto Quick coupling into the apertures of the supply hose. Screw the union nut on. Check the leak tightness (see page 23) between the Roto Quick coupling and supply hose. or Unscrew the union nut. Remove the Roto Quick coupling from the supply hose. 22

Operation Assembly/Removal Check leak tightness between Roto Quick coupling and supply hose > Block the water outlet at the tip of the Roto Quick coupling with a piece of rubber or leather. > Switch on the water. No water should leak out between the Roto Quick coupling and the supply hose after 10 seconds of blockage. In the event of malfunctions (e.g., vibrations, unusual noise, leaks), stop the Roto Quick coupling immediately. > Correct the malfunction as described in the»maintenance«section on pages 50 and 51. > If it proves impossible to correct the malfunction, please contact an authorized W&H service partner (see page 69). > Repairs must only be undertaken by an authorized W&H service partner. 23

4. Operation Assembly/Removal Do not assemble or remove the turbine handpiece during the operation! TE-97 LQ / TE-98 LQ / TE-97 / TE-98 Push the turbine handpiece onto the Roto Quick coupling. Check the secure hold of the Roto Quick coupling. or Pull the retention sleeve of the Roto Quick coupling back. Remove the turbine handpiece by pulling in an axial direction. 24

4. Operation Assembly/Removal Do not assemble or remove the turbine handpiece during the operation! TE-95 BC / TE-97 BC / TE-98 BC Insert the turbine handpiece into the apertures of the supply hose. Screw the union nut on. or Unscrew on the union nut. Remove the turbine handpiece from the supply hose. 25

TE-95 RM / TE-97 RM / TE-98 RM Insert the turbine handpiece into the apertures of the supply hose. Screw the union nut on. Check the leak tightness between the turbine handpiece and supply hose. or Unscrew on the union nut. Remove the turbine handpiece from the supply hose.

4. Operation To change rotary instrument Rotary instruments > Use only rotary instruments which are in perfect condition and which have shanks that meet the requirements of the ISO 1797-1 standard. Follow the operating instructions of the manufacturer. > Insert the rotary instrument only when the turbine handpiece is stationary. > Never touch the rotary instrument which is still rotating. > Do not activate the push-button of the turbine handpiece during operation or slowing down. This leads to detachment of the rotary instrument and/or makes the push-button hot (risk of injury). 28

4. Operation To change rotary instrument Insert the rotary instrument. Activate the push-button, at the same time insert the rotary instrument until back stop (a). Check secure location by applying slight axial tension. or Activate the push-button and remove the rotary instrument. 29

Operation Test run Do not hold the turbine handpiece at eye level. > Insert the turbine handpiece with Roto Quick connection on the Roto Quick coupling on the supply hose. or > Screw the turbine handpiece with BC / RM connection onto the supply hose. > Insert the rotary instrument. > Start the turbine handpiece. 30

4. Operation Test run In the event of malfunctions (e.g., vibrations, unusual noise, overheating, coolant failure or leakage, discoloration of the LED) stop the turbine handpiece / Roto Quick coupling immediately. > Correct the malfunction as described in the»maintenance«section on pages 50 and 51. > If it proves impossible to correct the malfunction, please contact an authorized W&H service partner (see page 69). > Repairs must only be undertaken by an authorized W&H service partner. 31

5. Hygiene and maintenance General Follow your country-specific directives, standards and guidelines for cleaning, disinfection and sterilization. > You can process the turbine handpiece manually or mechanically. > Wear protective clothing. > Remove the turbine handpiece from the Roto Quick coupling / supply hose. > Remove the rotary instrument. Nozzle cleaner > Clean and disinfect the nozzle cleaner in an ultrasonic bath or disinfection bath. > Sterilize the nozzle cleaner following manual cleaning and disinfection. 32

Hygiene and maintenance General Turbine handpiece > Clean and disinfect the turbine handpiece immediately after every treatment, to flush out any liquid (such as blood, saliva etc.) and to prevent settling on the internal parts. > After manual cleaning, disinfection and lubrication you must carry out a final thermal disinfection (unwrapped) or sterilization (wrapped) in a class B or S steam sterilizer (according to EN 13060). > Sterilize the turbine handpiece following manual or mechanical cleaning, disinfection and lubrication. Roto Quick coupling > Clean and disinfect the Roto Quick coupling immediately after every treatment. > Lubricate the generator of the Roto Quick coupling once a month. The Roto Quick coupling is not approved for thermo washer disinfection and sterilization. 33

5. Hygiene and maintenance Pre-disinfection > If heavily soiled: Clean first with disinfectant cloths. Only use disinfectants that have no protein-fixing effects. 34

Remove any liquid residues (absorbent cloth, blow dry with compressed air). Do not place the turbine handpiece / Roto Quick coupling in liquid disinfectant or in an ultrasonic bath. 35

5. Hygiene and maintenance Manual cleaning Cleaning of the spray nozzles > Clean spray nozzles carefully with the nozzle cleaner to remove dirt and deposits. Cleaning of the coolant channel > Blow through the coolant channel with the air syringe. 36

5. Hygiene and maintenance Manual cleaning Blow the LED dry with air syringe or dry it carefully with a soft cloth. Carry out a visual inspection after each cleaning process. Do not use the turbine handpiece if the LED is damaged and contact an authorized W&H service partner (see page 69). 39

Mechanical cleaning and disinfection internal and external The turbine handpiece can be cleaned and disinfected in a thermo washer disinfector. > Note the manufacturer s specifications on equipment, cleaning agents and detergents. > Make sure, that the turbine handpiece is completely dry internally and externally after thermo washer disinfection. Remove any liquid residues with compressed air. > Lubricate the dry turbine handpiece immediately after thermo washer disinfection. 41

5. Hygiene and maintenance Test run following oil service Place the turbine handpiece with the head downwards. Start the turbine handpiece for 30 seconds to remove excessive oil. Repeat the complete hygiene and maintenance process at any sign of dirt re-emerging. Wipe the turbine handpiece / Roto Quick coupling with gauze or soft cloth. 47

Hygiene and maintenance Sterilization and storage W&H recommends sterilization according to EN 13060, class B. > Note the instructions of the unit manufacturer. > Clean, disinfect and lubricate the turbine handpiece before sterilizing. > Wrap the turbine handpiece and the accessory in sterile goods packing according to EN 868-5. > Make sure, that you only remove dry sterile goods. > Store sterile goods dust-free and dry. The standard ISO 7785-1 / ISO 14457 stipulates a durability of at least 250 sterilization cycles. In the case of the turbine handpiece from W&H, we recommend you to have a regular service carried out after 1,000 sterilization cycles or one year. 48 The Roto Quick coupling is not approved for sterilization. The Roto Quick coupling can be kept on the supply hose.

6. Maintenance Replacing the rotor Unscrew the push-button using the hexagon wrench. Push the rotor out of the turbine head using the tip of a pair of tweezers. Clean the inside of the turbine head and the push-button with a cloth soaked in isopropyl alcohol. Blow dry the push-button and the turbine head with compressed air. Place the new rotor into the push-button. Place the rotor with the push-button into the turbine head. 52

6. Maintenance Replacing the rotor Screw the push-button onto the turbine head. Tighten the push-button using the hexagon wrench. Check free running of the chucking system. Activate the push-button and remove the mandrel. > Perform a test run. > Repeat the complete hygiene and maintenance process. 53

Squeeze the O-ring between your thumb and index finger so that it forms a loop. Pull off the O-ring. Push the new O-ring on in its place. 58
