Instruction Sheet P/N 7C 0 Safety WARNING: System pressurized! Relieve system hydraulic pressure before breaking any hydraulic connection or seal. Failure to relieve the system hydraulic pressure can result in the uncontrolled release of hot melt or cold adhesive, causing personal injury. CAUTION: Never heat system components with a torch or an open flame. Use an electric oven with forced air circulation or a flameless electric heat applicator. Do not heat plastic parts above 0 C (50 F). Refer to the melter-specific manual for intormation on relieving hydraulic pressure. WARNING: Molten material! Wear eye or face protection, clothing that protects exposed skin, and heat-protective gloves when servicing equipment that contains molten hot melt. Even when solidified, hot melt can still cause burns. Failure to wear appropriate personal protective equipment can result in personal injury. WARNING: Allow only personnel with appropriate training and experience to operate or service the equipment. The use of untrained or inexperienced personnel to operate or service the equipment can result in injury, including death, to themselves and others and can damage to the equipment. Intended Use Nordson hoses direct the flow of hot melt and other thermoplastic materials between a Nordson melter and a dispensing gun. Thermistors or thermostats are built into the hose for precise and consistent temperature control and safety. A closely spaced, spiral-wound heating element surrounds the hose core to provide uniform heat transfer and high-temperature aramid insulation reduces heat loss. Specifications Parameter Maximum operating temperature Maximum operating pressure Input voltage Specifications 0 C (00 F) for HM IV units 8 C (5 F) for all other units 0. Installation Remove the Old Hose. Relieve the melter hydraulic pressure. Refer to the melter manual.. Shut down the melter and disconnect it from its power source.. Turn off any gun triggering devices or gun drivers. If applicable, turn off the gun air supply.. Disconnect the hose electrical connectors or wiring from the melter and gun. 5. Disconnect the hose swivel fittings from the melter- and gun-end hose adapter fitting. 6. Properly dispose of the hose. Exchange hoses through Nordson s Trade Plus program. Contact Nordson for information. Reconnect an Old Hose. Heat the end fittings with a heat gun to ensure that the adhesive in the swivel joints is melted before attempting to turn the nuts.. Once the hose is started onto the mating fitting, allow the heat of contact with the fitting to continue softening the adhesive in the end of the hose. Use light pressure when turning the nut to ensure that the melting continues until the nut can be fully tightened. CAUTION: Do not turn the nut on a hose with solidified adhesive inside. Damage to the hose core may result. Components may be forced apart on some hose cores by turning the fixed nut if the hose end is frozen together with solid adhesive. Connect the New Hose. Carefully uncoil the new hose to avoid kinking.. Route the new hose between the melter and the gun, see Hose Installation Guidelines.. Connect the melter-end swivel fitting to the adapter fitting on the melter. Refer to Parts and Accessories for alternate adapter fittings.. Plug the melter-end electrical connector into the appropriate melter receptacle. If required, the connector can be rotated 0 degrees, see the Hose installation guidelines illustration below. 5. Restore power to the melter and bring it and the hose up to operating temperature. 6. Run adhesive through the hose and into a drain pan to purge the hose of any foreign material. 7. Shut down the melter. 8. Connect the gun-end swivel fitting to the adapter fitting on the gun.. Plug the gun-end electrical connector into the gun, or wire the hose to the gun as described in your gun-specific product manual. 0. Restore power to the melter and any gun triggering devices or drivers. Operate the melter normally.. Re-tighten the hose fittings and check for leaks.. Insulate the exposed hose fittings. Refer to Parts and Accessories for insulating cuffs. CAUTION: Do not lay the hose on the floor while servicing. Doing so can cause heat dissipation and damage to the hose. Part 7C 0

Hose Installation Guidelines Secure hoses with proper brackets. Do not use clamps that restrict flow or damage hoses. X Maintain at least 7 mm (.5 in.) between hoses to maintain temperature. Failure to do so can cause adhesive to overheat, resulting in chars, burns, or fire. Use 5 or 0 fittings to connect hoses. Failure to do so can cause adhesive to overheat, resulting in chars, burns, or fire. Do not exceed 0. cm (8 in.) bend radius for 5 / 6 in. hose, 7. cm ( in.) for a 5 / 8 in. or larger hose. Failure to do so can cause adhesive to overheat, resulting in chars, burns, or fire. P/N 7 86 5/6 IN. P/N 7 7 5/8 IN. Properly support hoses so that flow is not restricted. Use two wrenches to install hose fittings. Part 7C 0

0 Hose Schematics Hose 5 6 Heater Tape Thermistor Conduit Gun 5006 Figure Model IV-W Series II hose schematic 5005 Figure Quick disconnect automatic hose schematic Operation Depending on the melter s model, use one of the following procedures of operation: For Models 500, 5505, or 550, refer to Calibrate the Hose Temperature Controller. For all other models, the hose installation does not require the calibration procedure. Proceed with normal operation, refer to a gun manual for details. Calibrate the Hose Temperature Controller CAUTION: You must complete this procedure when replacing a hose on Model 500, 5505, or 550 units. Failure to do so will result in incorrect temperature control and possibly premature hose failure. This procedure is not required on other units.. Ensure that the melter is switched off, and input power is disconnected.. Open the electrical box door and locate the hose temperature controller on the inside of the door.. Loosen the locknut on the adjustment potentiometer. This potentiometer is located near the top of the hose temperature controller.. Use a small flat-blade screwdriver to turn the adjustment potentiometer full counterclockwise. 5. Turn the temperature control knob on the outside of the door panel fully counterclockwise. 6. With the electrical box door still open, reconnect input power to the melter. 7. Manually raise the mechanical door interlock and set the main disconnect switch to the ON position. 8. Set the temperature control knob on the outside of the door panel to the ambient temperature.. Press and hold the calibration button on the hose temperature controller. 0. Use the small flatblade screwdriver to turn the adjustment potentiometer clockwise only until the amber light on the hose temperature controller begins flashing at a slow rate.. Tighten the locknut on the adjustment potentiometer without disturbing the screw setting.. Set the temperature control knob on the outside of the door panel to the desired application temperature.. Close the electrical box and resume normal operation. Part 7C 0

Troubleshooting Problem Possible Cause Corrective Action Hose does not heat or under heats No input power Missing contact pin(s) or damaged electrical connector Check that the melter is on,the hose electrical connections are secure, and that the channel is set to the correct temperature. Repair the contact pin(s) or replace the hose. Failed heater or sensor Connect the hose to a known good channel. If the hose heats, the original channel is bad. If the hose does not heat, replace the hose. Little or no adhesive output (Melter OK) Clogged hose Check the hose:. Disconnect the hose from the gun.. Turn on the pump and check for full adhesive flow.. Replace the hose if there is little or no adhesive flow. Hose leaks at the connection with melter or gun Loose hose fitting Damaged O ring, hose adapter fitting, or hose swivel fitting Ensure that the melter and hose are at operating temperature, and then tighten the fitting. Replace the O-ring or adapter fitting. Refer to Parts and Accessories. Replace the hose if either hose swivel fitting is damaged. Part 7C 0
