FUNCTIONING The blank is placed manually on the rotary table and clamped manually. Then with the first adjustment the blank is moved manually to its welding position by means of a linear axis. The position of the linear axis is indicated precisely by a position encoder. The alignment for the first tooth has to be done manually. The segments are fed by a belt-type magazine and put against the blank by means of a solid gripper. The laser head mounted on the CNC-controlled X-Y linear table welds the segment on the blank. The blank is rotated automatically to the next tooth, meanwhile the gripper places the next segment at disposal. The operator changes the blank manually. If the blank has the same dimensions, alignment for the first tooth is automatic. In order to weld drop segments the blank is moved manually out of the center via an additional axis. The alignment for the first tooth has to be done manually by the operator. Welding the first segment and rotation to the next tooth is automatic. The procedure of moving the additional axis out of the center can be done on both sides to permit welding on upper and bottom side of the blank.
