How to use your new waste containers

Ready - steady - recycle! In Denmark we must separate and recycle more of our waste. The Government has set af goal of recycling at least 50% of household waste by 2022. We in Viborg Municipality recycle just about 30% today. Therefore, all residents will now get new waste containers so that we can more easily separate recyclable food waste, paper, metal, glass, hard plastics, and batteries from the domestic waste. These types of waste have been selected, as they have a high recycling value - they are easy to separate, and they provide environmental benefits. It is common sense. Activate your waste The new waste service is an active change in our daily lives. Creating change is to stir up things and thoughts. With out new waste service common sense is backed by action and activity. We make it possible for everyone to separate more and better, and we make sure that the waste is recycled and treated separately. The aim is to increase the quantities of recyclable resources - resources that would otherwise not be recovered. This goes hand in hand with a focus on ease of use and secure operations. Residents with individual waste solutions In the new waste service focus is on five types of waste that are collected at your kerbside. To do so, you will receive new waste containers made of plastic. The new waste containers replace your present bin or sack. Revas offers containers in different package solutions customised in terms of volume to the needs of each household. In addition, it will still be possible to dispose of your end-of-life batteries in a transparent bag on the lid of your bin for residual waste on the day of collection. You can read more about the different package solutions and waste types in this leaflet or on revas.dk. Residents with common waste solutions Already today, many areas with common waste solutions practise waste separation in three or four types of waste in islands consisting of four-wheel containers or in underground solutions. With the new waste service, all residents must separate into five waste types. Revas offers containers customised to your existing common waste solution. You can read more about the different solutions and waste types in this leaflet or on revas.dk. 2

What s new? You will get two containers or compartments for recyclable waste where you can separate metal, glass, and hard plastics along with paper. You will get two containers or compartments for domestic waste where you can separate residual waste and food waste. The two-compartment containers are collected in a waste collection vehicle with two separate compartments, and thereby the waste will be kept apart and ready for recycling. The containers have a double lid, so they can open from two sides. On the inside of the lid you can find separation instructions. You can find information on container sizes and measurements, prices, and information on accessibility on revas.dk. 4

Extra waste? If you have more residual waste than fits in your container, you can buy an extra waste bag. You can buy it using our app AffaldViborg, by texting us, via the recycling centres, through Viborg Municipality s Citizen Service Centre, or at selected stores.. A sack costs DKK 30.-. Find points of sale on revas.dk. The extra waste bag cannot be used for food waste, paper, metal, glass, and hard plastics. If you wish to use your own waste bag, you may do as follows: 1 2 3 Send POSE to 1204. You will receive a SMS with a code. Put the code on your own waste bag - place the bag next to your residual waste container; it will be collected on the following waste collection day. Household hazardous waste Products and packaging marked with hazard symbols are always hazardous waste. They must be taken to the recycling centres and must not be thrown together with other wastes, as they may ruin the recycling process. In doubt? Find our separation guideline on our app AffaldViborg or on revas.dk. You will be charged DKK 30.-. + general texting fee. 10

Recycling Centres Viborg Municipality s six recycling centres are ready to receive waste that cannot be thrown in your new containers. The recycling centres are modern and user-friendly, and you can receive personal guidance. You can find our recycling centres here: Bjerringbro Recycling Centre Gl. Waste containers on the kerbside As something new, the waste containers must be located by the kerbside on collection day. This means that you may choose to put them there permanently, or you may bring them out on pick-up day. The new waste containers are easy to move. We have made it easy for you to check when your containers are collected. You can either download our app AffaldViborg or visit revas.dk. You can also sign up for our SMS service, which will give you notice when it is time to take out your containers. If you wish your containers to be placed further onto your property, you can make an arrangement with Revas. It costs DKK 250.- a year per container. Accessibility conditions must comply with the rules of the Danish Working Environment Authority. You can find them on revas.dk. Place by the kerbside Handles facing the street Place on solid ground 12

Ordinary plot You are free to decide whether you want the container to be placed on the kerbside permanently, or whether to bring them out on collection day. If you choose to have it permanently on the kerbside, please note: The site must be by the kerbside within 0-5 meters from nearest main road. Waste container handles must face the street. The ground must be solid (tiles, asphalt, concrete), level, without steps. The container must have free access and are not behind doors or gates. You must ensure free space around each container. L-shaped plot If your plot is L-shaped, you follow the same rules as those with an ordinary plot. However, please note the following: If your driveway is at least 3.5 meters wide and no longer than 50 meters long, you can place the containers at the boundary of the primary plot. If not, the containers must be located by the kerbside facing your plot. Rural properties If you live in a rural property, you follow the same rules as those applying to an L-shaped plot. You also have the following options: If the access road is more than 50 meters long, you must ensure turning space for the collection vehicle near the house. In addition, the collection vehicle must be able to stop close by your containers. If there is not enough turning space for a truck, the containers must be placed by the main road on the collection day. You can find pictures examples and accessibility guidelines on revas.dk. 13

Underground containers Many residents in Viborg Municipality live in apartment buildings - typically without their own garden and with a common waste solution. A common waste solution consists of containers placed near the entrances and pathways to the buildings. In many places in Viborg, these solutions have now been replaced with underground waste solutions - a well-functioning solution both in terms of operation and design. In most places with a common waste solution we have already introduced waste separation with three or four types of waste. With the new waste service we will continue to separate waste for recycling. We will expand the waste separation so that in addition to residual waste, we will collect recyclable food waste, paper, metal, glass, and hard plastics. Also, batteries will be collected separately. You will receive more information, when the expanded waste separation solution is introduced in your neighbourhood. It is important, that we continue the good work of separating our waste - we do make a difference! 15

Download the app AffaldViborg We would like to make it easy for you. Therefore, we have developed an app where you can find information about your waste. The app tells you, among others: When is collection day? Sign up for the SMS or App reminder service Collection days Location of nearest recycling igloo Opening hours Location of nearest recycling centre Report a missed collection Separation guidelines Contact form SMS or App reminder service Purchase of extra waste bag You can download it from App Store or Google Play - and it is free of charge, of course.. Enjoy! Any questions? Please feel free to call or write to us. Kirkebækvej 136, 8800 Viborg, Tel 86 61 39 55, revas@viborg.dk 16
