AIR FILTER MAINTENANCE Your SUNHEAT Infrared Heater is equipped with an easy to clean, washable electro-static filter. Regular cleaning and maintenance of your filter will ensure a lifetime of trouble-free use. 1. Turn off heater, then remove filter from bracket, located on the back of the heater. 2. Rinse filter by running under warm tap water through the back side of the filter (opposite of air intake direction) until clear of dust and debris. 3. If the filter is extremely dirty or clogged with grease, you can soak the filter in a mild solution of dish soap and water, then brush with a soft brush and repeat rinsing process. 4. Shake filter to remove excess water and lay on clean cloth or paper towels to dry. Do not use forced heat to dry the filter. 5. Replace the filter onto heater ONLY after it is completely dry. The filter should be cleaned every 30 days. However it may be necessary to clean more often depending upon the environment in which the heater is operated (pets, rural living, etc.) NOTE: Never operate heater without filter in place. Without the filter in place, dust can accumulate in the heater chamber causing damage to key elements. WELCOME Congratulations on the purchase of The Original SUNHEAT model SH-1500 LCD, a safe, portable and supplemental zone heater. The SUNHEAT heater produces gentle, clean and economical heat by utilizing quartz infrared heating tubes inside a steel and copper heat exchanger. The infrared heating process is similar to the way the sun warms the earth. The infrared tubes transfer heat to cured copper canisters and a whisper quiet fan distributes the accumulated warmth. This process is unique among heaters in that it minimizes wasteful heat collection at the ceiling height of rooms. The safe infrared heat is transferred into the living space in an even, energy saving method, that can be absorbed by you and the objects in the room. HEATER PLACEMENT To achieve maximum efficiency of the Original SUNHEAT Portable Infrared Heater, please consider the following recommendations: 1. Place the heater near the center of the home next to a warmer inside wall with the heat being blown toward the colder outside walls of the home. This will allow the thermostat to accurately moderate the temperature, therefore producing a more even warmth. 2. For best results, do not locate the heater in an area with a high rate of air flow. 3. For maximum efficiency, a 40% (minimum) relative humidity should be maintained in the heated environment. 4. The SH-1500LCD is designed to operate at maximum efficiency up to the 70-72 F range. Due to this unique heat concept, a temperature at 68 F feels as though it were 72 F. Similar to a summer heat index, the moisture in the air holds the heat and transfers it evenly throughout the entire area. 5. For efficiency, SUNHEAT Infrared Heaters are not recommended for use in areas with exposed, non-insulated, concrete, or metal walls. You can use the SH-1500LCD in any room, whether insulated or not. However, a non-insulated room will allow for greater heat loss that will impact the effectiveness of the heater. 6. Keep the area around the heater clear of clutter and obstacles to insure free airflow into and out from the heater. 8 5
HEATER OPERATION Plug your SH-1500LCD Infrared Heater power cord into a 120V, 15amp or larger three-bladed receptacle. Remote Control Control Panel To Turn the Heater On: Press the (1) Power button on the control panel or on the remote control. To Set the Temperature: Press the (2) Temp Up or (4) Temp Down button on the control panel or the or on the remote control to the desired temperature. The default (5) display is the set temperature. When the unit is operating, (A) Heating up will display on the screen. When the set temperature is reached, the heater will cycle off automatically and (B) Cooling down will display. When the temperature drops below the desired setting, the heater will come on again. To set the Heating Level: Press the (3) H/L button on the control panel or the on the remote control to switch between High, Low or Eco heat setting. The (6) High, Low or Eco setting will display on the LCD screen. High heat level uses up to 1500 watts. Low heat level uses up to1000 watts. Eco heat will operate the heater to maintain a 68 F setting. The heater will use the most efficient wattage and number of elements needed to maintain the default 68 F setting. To display the room temperature: Press (2) Temp Up and (4) Temp Down at the same time. The room temperature will display for 5 seconds. To Set Running Time: Press the (7) Time button on the control panel or the on the remote control. Numbers 1-8 will appear in the (8) box on the LCD screen. If the (8) box is blank it means there is no set run time and the heater will cycle as needed. Numbers 1-8 indicates the number of hours the heater will run before it automatically shuts off. To change between C and F: Press the (9) C / F button on the control panel. 6 HOW IT WORKS Your SUNHEAT infrared zone heating system is a truly effective way to supplementally heat any area of your home. The six industrial grade quartz infrared tubes, with Diamond Like Coated (DLC) Nichrome wire, transfer their heat waves to the cured copper canisters within the unit. Because of this process, it will take less than a minute for the fan to kick on and begin to provide safe, soft, comfortable warmth. The infrared heat stored in the copper is transferred to people and objects in the room in a remarkably even manner. This transitive heating system provides Free Heat as the system cycles off when the desired temperature setting is reached, the timer runs out or the heater is turned off. It is normal for the fan to run as the heat chamber cools down. 1) Air is brought into the heat chamber through an easy to clean, washable filter. (See next page for Filter Maintenance) 2) Cured copper cylinders surround the long-lasting quartz and DLC Nichrome infrared heating tubes. The high velocity fan pulls filtered air over the copper cylinders, transferring accumulated heat to the moisture in the air. There is no drying of the air with this method of heating and no harmful chemicals or pollutants are released. 3) As the heat transfer occurs, moisture in the air absorbs the infrared heat as it circulates around and through the heat exchanger. The air exits the heater approximately 120 F warmer than the air entering the heater. 4) Soft, warm, moist air flows out of the front vent of the Original SUNHEAT heater. This heating process allows your body and the objects in the room to absorb and hold the infrared heat. This creates a comfortable and even temperature from floor to ceiling and wall to wall. Note: The fan will continue to run for approximately 6 minutes after the desired temperature setting is reached, timer runs out or heater is turned off, whether by front panel or by remote control. This is normal. The residual heat or Free Heat is a by product of cooling the heat chamber and is essential to protecting the key elements of the heater. It is also an important energy saving feature of infrared heating. 7
