SPRING 2018 SPRING 2018 WELCOME BEAULIEU COMMUNITY CENTRE Welcome to the latest edition of Beaulieu News. It s been an exciting year at Beaulieu, with many more families moving in and Beaulieu Square nearing completion with the first shops already open for business. Construction of Essex s first all -through school is now well underway. More amazing new public art has been installed, and The Chase park and gardens are now complete with a new children s play area. If you d like to make any suggestions for future content or have any questions, please contact us on BeaulieuNews@cpplc.com The Beaulieu Community Centre is nearing completion with the external building work now finished and the fit-out work well underway. The Centre will be managed by the Beaulieu Community Trust, which was formed in 2015. Consisting of representatives of Springfield Parish Council, Beaulieu Church and local residents, it is busy putting the final touches to the Centre. We have already had many expressions of interest from organisations that see opportunities to use the building. Until the Centre is open please contact the Trust via Springfield Parish Council, using clerk@springfieldpc.org.uk to alert us to your interest. BEAULIEU ALL SET TO BECOME AN EDUCATED CHOICE The Centre has four rooms available for hire and for example can be used for family parties, club meetings and business conferences. Importantly, it is a fully accessible facility for wheelchair users and includes a Changing Places certified toilet with a hoist and wet room. I look forward to meeting you and your family at our opening event in the spring. SUSAN SULLIVAN Chair of Beaulieu Community Trust susan.sullivan11@yahoo.co.uk Construction of Essex County Council s first all through school, to be known as The Beaulieu Park School, is well underway. It will join an already illustrious list of outstanding schools in Chelmsford. The Beaulieu Square Community Centre Operating as an all through school, it will enable children to benefit from a consistent education starting from their early primary years, right through until the day they are ready to spread their wings and move on to sixth form or further education options. The new school will open in stages with the primary phase opening for Reception age children this September, and the secondary phase will open to Year 7 students in September 2019. BEAULIEU SQUARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS In December, the first new stores at Beaulieu Square opened for business making Christmas a little easier for our residents. We were delighted to welcome Sainsbury s Local, Churchill s Fish and Chip shop, Domino s Pizza and Costa. The striking new shops are already proving to be a hit with the local community, as they enjoy the ease of access to some of their favourite food retailers. Beaulieu Dental is now open and Spring Lodge Veterinary Surgery will be open very soon, adding to the wide range of facilities being provided on your doorstep. We wish them every success. The fantastic Beaulieu Community Centre will open its doors this spring too, closely followed by Bright Horizon s Day Nursery, Kip McGrath Education Centre and Coffee Squared, providing community and educational facilities for residents of all ages. There are also plans to build a new Health Centre at Beaulieu Square on behalf of the NHS. Sainsbury s Local is open daily between 7am and 11pm. A cash machine is also located outside. Churchills Fish and Chips is open Monday Saturday 11.30am 10pm, and 12 9pm. To make life easier, they also offer a click and collect service. The apartments at Beaulieu Square are now all sold and due for completion shortly. MP FOR CHELMSFORD VIEWS THE LATEST PROGRESS Vicky Ford, MP for Chelmsford came for a whistle stop tour of Beaulieu in February. She was delighted to see the progress that has been made in providing much needed new homes alongside such impressive new community facilities. She was particularly excited to see the construction of the new school buildings alongside the stunning new Community Centre and Day Nursery that will be opening soon. The school will ultimately provide 420 primary school places, and a further 900 secondary school places, growing to around 1,200 secondary places in future years. The state-of-the-art specialist performing arts, sports, technology and science facilities at the school will be available to all, giving pupils a broad and exciting curriculum from day one. For more information and to apply for a place please visit: www.beaulieuparkschool.com

SPRING 2018 SPRING 2018 MORE PLACES TO CALL HOME AT BEAULIEU Countryside and L&Q continue to deliver more new homes within the Beaulieu Heath and Beaulieu Chase neighbourhood areas. BEAULIEU ESTATE MANAGEMENT APPOINTS NEW ESTATES OFFICER The first two phases of new homes at Beaulieu Heath have proved to be exceptionally popular providing attractive, colonial style family houses ranging from three to five bedrooms. Continuing this architectural style, a third phase is now under construction and will be launched later this year. The Signature Collection at Beaulieu Chase offers a selection of impressive four and five bedroom detached houses, all of which overlook The Chase park and gardens. Choose from two striking home designs, the four-bedroom Maxima and fivebedroom Terrazza, each providing an attractive vista over the thoughtfully designed series of gardens that make up the park. Beaulieu Keep is our most recent phase of new homes at Beaulieu Chase offering a choice of architectural styles, ranging from traditional weather boarded properties within courtyards to contemporary style houses overlooking The Chase park. This exciting new phase boasts an impressive sense of arrival thanks to the attractive landscaped entrance off Essex Regiment Way with the unforgettable public art installations. If you know anyone who would love to move to Beaulieu, don t forget Countryside s 1,000 Recommend a Friend referral scheme just pop into one of the marketing suites for more information. Some residents may have already met Lauren Hull from Beaulieu Estate Management. Lauren was appointed by the Land Trust last autumn, as Beaulieu s new Estates Officer. Lauren comes with a glowing set of credentials and bundles of energy to get residents involved in the great outdoors. She moved to the area to study for a degree in Landscape and Garden Design at Writtle College, nine years ago and has never looked back. Lauren will be responsible for the 176 acres of open space that will be created at Beaulieu, which will be made up of parks, play areas, village greens, community gardens and allotments. Her role involves ensuring that the public open spaces benefit from sustainable management and financial plans to safeguard them for the future. She will also be organising and running a programme of events throughout the year to ensure our local community has ample chance to make friends and get involved with the historic parkland that surrounds Beaulieu. Lauren is keen to ensure those living in the wider area have an opportunity to engage as well. Lauren will also host resident meetings where you can share your thoughts on the estate and things you would like to see happen. As the development progresses, Beaulieu s abundant variety of green open spaces will be entrusted to Beaulieu Estate Management, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Land Trust. They will take care of the estate parkland indefinitely on behalf of, and in partnership with, the Beaulieu residents and wider local community. Lauren is helping to fulfil one of the original visions for Beaulieu, to ensure its residents enjoy a high quality of life, by creating and safeguarding sustainable, high quality green spaces that deliver environmental, social and economic benefits. NEW RESIDENTS WEB PAGE From time to time, Countryside and L&Q would like to provide you with news and information on the progress being made at Beaulieu, together with details of forthcoming activities and events organised by ourselves and Beaulieu Estate Management. To help keep you up-to-date, we have created a Beaulieu Residents portal, which can be found at: www.beaulieuresidents.co.uk Here, you can view the latest news and information. To save you having to log onto the website to check for news, you can sign up to receive news posts via email.

SPRING 2018 SPRING 2018 MAJESTIC NEW ART We were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Chelmsford, Cllr Duncan Lumley to officially unveil the Crowned Stag, the latest significant piece of public art at Beaulieu. Created by artist, Matthew Lane Sanderson, the majestic ten metre-tall sculpture marks the entrance to Beaulieu from Essex Regiment Way. Matthew was commissioned by Countryside and L&Q, to produce a landmark sculptural piece that would pay tribute to the site s rich history and provide a focal point for Beaulieu. This striking piece of artwork, which has been named the Crowned Stag by the artist, depicts the reflection of a stag beneath a tree. It has been hand crafted from zinc-coated steel and is set on a crown base, reflecting the heritage of the site a former deer park owned by King Henry VIII as part of his Tudor Palace and estate parkland known as Beaulieu. For those of you who have visited the sculpture you will have noticed that Matthew has embedded some text in a band around the crown base, as a dedication to the sculpture. The text reads as follows: All things held in one small globe. Spinning eternally in endless strobe. Plants, water, animals, light. Future, past, day, night. All is balanced on everyone s crown In every country, every town. In addition to the large sculptural deer artworks that mark the entrances to Beaulieu, artist David Mackie is putting the finishing touches to a series of embedded artworks that will be located within the The Chase park and gardens and the Beaulieu Square Neighbourhood Centre. These sensory pieces of art will be cast in bronze and set into stone as resting places and are the result of many hours of work with children from three local primary schools. David introduced the children to the idea of the books from the Royal Library. Henry V111 was known to have a series of books, including Ruralia Commoda a 700 year old guide to creating a formal garden. Working with source material, the children designed a series of pages from this and other imagined books. BEAULIEU PROVIDES WRITTLE COLLEGE STUDENTS WITH WORK EXPERIENCE Lauren Hull at Beaulieu Estate Management is working with students and lecturers from Writtle College on projects across the Beaulieu Estate. Lauren provided a tour to students earlier in the year to showcase the principles behind the landscaping and sustainable urban drainage (SUDS) on site. The students, who are studying Landscape and Garden Design or Landscape Architecture, were able to see how Beaulieu is growing and the importance of providing green spaces and drainage solutions across any new development. They are currently working on plans for the area which will become the Community Gardens, close to New Hall School. They will focus on providing detailed design ideas for the Gardens and the ways in which the residents of Beaulieu will be able to use this space in the future. HEALTH WALKS It has been well documented that taking regular walks can greatly improve your health and wellbeing. At Beaulieu we are very lucky to have a weekly walk taking place each Friday of the month. Friends of Heart and Sole have around 500 regular walkers and 40 volunteer walk leaders across Chelmsford who enable 16 different walks to take place each week. The standard walk commences at 10.30 am from the Sports Pavilion at Beaulieu Park Recreation Ground, Burnell Gate, off Beaulieu Boulevard. The standard walk is 2.9km (1.8 miles) long. A longer walk is available on the first Friday of each month starting at 10.15 am from the same location. The Beaulieu Park Walk is wheelchair and Buggy friendly and light refreshments are usually available in the Pavilion afterwards for a small donation. On your first walk you will need to fill in a Walker registration form which can be handed to the walk leader on your first walk. For more information and to download the Walker registration form please visit: www.chelmsford. gov.uk/heartandsole

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY EASTER EGGS-TRAVAGANZA SATURDAY 24TH MARCH 2018 12.00pm to 3.00pm Join Beaulieu Estate Management for an Easter Extravaganza within The Chase park and gardens. The children will be able to take part in an Easter themed trail around the green spaces of Beaulieu and collect an Easter egg on their return. By popular demand, Groundworks-East will be returning to Beaulieu to assist residents in making bird boxes for their gardens, providing new homes for our feathered friends and neighbours. They will also be helping to plant sunflower seeds for everyone to take home. We would love to see the photos of your growing sunflowers throughout the summer. These photos can be emailed to Lauren at any point. The Beaulieu Community Trust will also be joining in the fun, providing Easter themed arts and craft activities throughout the afternoon. We look forward to welcoming you along. PEDAL FOR THE J S CHARITY BIKE RIDE SUNDAY 15TH APRIL 2018 Admiral s Park, Chelmsford For the fourth year running, Beaulieu is sponsoring Pedal for the J s charity bike ride in support of the J s Hospice in Chelmsford. J s Hospice nurses provide much needed care to young adults with life limiting conditions and support for their families in their own homes, throughout Essex. Beaulieu has been proud to be the main sponsor of Pedal for the J s and our staff have been most generous in taking part and helping them to raise 119,614 over the past three years. We would love Beaulieu residents to join us to form this years Beaulieu cycling team. For those that have not taken part before Pedal for the J s is a really family friendly event that caters for all abilities. There are three different circular routes, starting and finishing in Admirals Park in Chelmsford 15, 35 and 50 miles. Please note a dedicated registration page has been set up for the Beaulieu Team with the first 50 registrations FREE. Please visit www.havenshospices. org.uk/beaulieu to register. All members of the Beaulieu Team will be provided with a Beaulieu cycling top to wear on the day and keep as a memento. If you would like a branded top please email: events@oraclepr.co.uk stating the size you require. SUMMER FETE SATURDAY 4TH AUGUST 12.00pm to 4.00pm Bring a picnic and enjoy some storytelling on the grass with Lauren from Beaulieu Estate Management. Hunt for mini-beasts, enjoy some outside games, decorate a windmill or just simply sit and unwind and enjoy the atmosphere. We would like to invite residents at Beaulieu to get involved and support the event in whatever way they can. From ideas to practical help. It may be that you have your own business or have a particular talent you can share. If you would like to get involved or take a stand or table at the event please email Lauren before July 4th. CHRISTMAS AT BEAULIEU WEDNESDAY 19TH DECEMBER 4.00pm to 8.00pm Carrying on from the success of last year s Christmas event we are very much looking forward to hosting Father Christmas again on Wednesday 19th December.
