Robur Series GA Gas Fired Absorption Chillers and Chiller-Heaters Cooling in Summer Heating in Winter The Robur appliances are single effect gas fired High Efficiency Water Chillers incorporating an air cooled condenser for outdoor installation. Based on the absorption refrigeration cycle, with the natural solution of water and ammonia, for the production of chilled water down to 3 C. Produced in 16 models with capacities between 17.49 and 87.45 kw for cooling and from 32.5 kw to 130 kw for heating. Low noise version available. Robur GA series are also available in TK version for heavy duty applications, HT version for tropical zones and LB version for refrigeration. The High Efficiency Robur units can be supplied as air conditioning units only. The entire gas installation is external to the building. For banks and insurance companies. Guarantee of continuity. The flame that cools The High Efficiency Robur chillers use the absorption cycle (water - ammonia) gas fired, in a completely sealed circuit. The flame that cools. This apparent paradox has a precise scientific explanation. In synthesis: thermal energy instead of mechanical energy as the air conditioning drive. In the Robur GA the ammonia water solution is heated by the gas burner in the generator; the ammonia evaporates and separates from the water. Then it is piped to the heat exchanger, where cooled by the temperature of the external air flow it condenses to a liquid. The resulting liquid of ammonia expands in the further heat exchanger (evaporator) where it cools the water from the external circuit by absorbing its heat and then evaporates again. The ammonia is then piped into the absorber where it meets the water which remained after the separation in the generator. Here occurs the absorption, the process which named the cycle of operation of the appliance: the ammonia vapor is absorbed by the water to the initial liquid solution in the generator for the cycle to restart again. 6

The reliability of the High Efficiency Robur absorption units is due to precise technological advantages, based on safety and simplicity. Powered by the heat of the gas combustion (Natural Gas or LPG) for its operation they use water and ammonia in a completely sealed circuit. With Robur There is no compressor, consequently the performance is constant during the life span because there is no mechanical wear. There is no leakage of the refrigerant fluid as it is a mechanically sealed circuit. Only three mechanical parts in motion, therefore minimal possibility of mechanical failure. 7

Safety and Efficiency Technical Innovation. Is the basis of the High Efficiency Robur units. Natural Gas or LPG, the clean source of energy for heating and air conditioning. Water and ammonia, natural elements for cooling production. Modular installation, guarantee for operation with increased reliability. High Efficiency. The High Efficiency Robur units require the minimum of heat input (as the simple boiler) to produce chilled water. This result is obtained by using the regeneration of thermal energy inside the operational cycle of the chiller and particularly by increasing the level of the temperature of ammonia absorption cycle. It allows to minimize the operational costs of the installation. Water and ammonia. 2/3 of water and 1/3 of ammonia. The water is the absorption fluid and ammonia the refrigerant. The High Efficiency Robur units maintain constant performances over time and do not require any replacement of the refrigerant fluid due to loss during servicing. Various tests done by the European Research Institutes demonstrated how much the efficiency of cooling units is influenced by the leakage of the refrigerants. With High Efficiency Robur units you can avoid all these problems. It's not necessary to over-size the refrigerant capacity because there is no efficiency loss during the operating lifespan. Wide application solutions and easy installing. Thanks to the closed circuit evaporator it is possible to adopt various application solutions. The installation requires only simple connections to the external hydraulic piping, to the gas supply line and to the electric supply 230 V line. 8

Quiet Efficiency. A key factor in the design of the High Efficiency units is the hydraulic pump which guaranteed to give optimum performance under any circumstances, at all times. This hydraulic pump is of the piston type and is noted for its reliability and silent operation. The transmission system of double synchronous belts and plastic pulleys with automatic rotation control guarantees the efficient operation without any servicing requirements. Containment of the noise level. Is guaranteed by the absence of a compressor and by an electronically controlled condenser fan, the rotation of which reduces as the function of the external ambient temperature (under 33 C). This further reduces the electric supply consumption. Simplified Ordinary Servicing. Low NOx Emission: only 31 ppm. Thanks to the premixed multigas burner, the NOx emissions are reduced to only 31 ppm. The servicing of the High Efficiency Robur appliances is minimized thanks to the absence of a compressor and to the reduced number of mechanical parts in motion. To further simplify servicing, Robur can supply on request a filtration system for the condenser/absorber coil, which protects the coil of the unit against the dirt. Elements at the service of High Technology A system controlled by a microprocessor: This operates as a selfdiagnostic device of the unit, it is a printed resin electronic circuit. It displays the chilled water temperature and the numerical error codes, 16 different conditions of operation, including: dirty condenser battery and the loss of relative fan airflow ventilation flow control reduction of the chilled water flow exceeding water temperature setting point exceeding the generator's limit temperature. Constructive Characteristics Air conditioning unit. Model ACF 60-00: Air cooled single effect water chiller for outdoor installation. Absorption refrigerant cycle with ammonia-water natural solution, fired by Natural Gas or LPG. The unit is completed with: Refrigerant circuit made of mild steel externally coated with epoxy polyester paint. Pre-mixed gas burner; multiple gas type; stainless steel construction; with ignition and flame sensor device controlled by electronic flame box. Condenser axial fan with electronically controlled speed as the function of the external ambient temperature. Panels are made of galvanized sheet metal, with powder epoxy coating, thermally treated. Safety and control devices comprising: Water flow switch. Safety valve at the refrigerant circuit. Safety by-pass valve at refrigerant circuit, between high and low pressure side. Generator high temperature limit switch with manual reset. Antifreeze thermostat. Differential flue pressure switch on the combustion circuit for the control of the correct evacuation of the combustion products. Double shutter electric gas valve. Electronic control device with self-diagnostic unit. Flue temperature limit switch with an automatic reset: it protects generator from overheating. Constructive Characteristics Air conditioning units. Models RTCF 120, RTCF 180, RTCF 240, RTCF 300: The RTCF units comprise 2, 3, 4 or 5 chillers ACF 60-00, mounted on the steel support frame, already assembled, hydraulically piped and electrically wired. The RTCF units are complete with an electric control box and supplied with a DDC device. The constructive characteristics, and the control safety devices of each module are the same as the basic chiller models. 12

GA series Technical Characteristics: Constructive Characteristics of the Heating and Cooling Appliances. Models AYF 60-119/2 and 60-119/4. AYF 60-119 model. Models with heating and cooling; the chiller module has the same performance characteristics as the base model. The absorption units complete with the heating module are available in a four pipe version for the simultaneous production of hot and chilled water or in a two pipe version (alternative production). Boiler module: airtight combustion chamber thermally insulated for outdoor installation; high thermal efficiency: 92,9%; pre-mixed multiple-gas burner made of stainless steel with low NOx and CO emissions; vertically positioned; high voltage ignition transformer. Safety and control devices: electronic flame control box for burner ignition control and ionization; double shutter electric gas valve; high limit temperature switch of the generator; 3 bar safety valve for hydronic circuit; hydraulic pressure switch for the water flow rate control; automatic thermal switch with adjustment range of 87± 3 C; antifreeze thermostat; automatic air breathing device. The RTYF unit, in particular, comprises ACF and AYF modules assembled on a single steel base frame; electrical and hydraulic connections are made in the factory; this modular system for both heating and cooling uses the capacity required to suit the various seasonal and ambient thermal conditions. Important energy savings for both winter heating and summer cooling. The AYF and RTYF modules do not require any specific plant room, because they are outdoor installed. This permits a more rational use of the internal building areas. The RTYF modules are supplied with a standard Electronic Digital Display Control (DDC), while the module AYF/2 pipes, on request, can be fitted for connection to the optional DDC (this control unit is not suitable for heating module of model AYF/4 pipes). The DDC regulates and controls each single heating and air-conditioning unit and constantly supervises the operating parameters of the modules, and eventual alarms. It is possible, moreover, to set the operating mode (heating or cooling) and timer control of the installation. The DDC controls the start of each single unit and ensures that each module runs the same amount of time. However depending on the outside operating temperature, it is recommended to set the adjustment of the delivery temperature in such a way as to ensure that here is not an excessive thermal head between the water in the system and the ambient air. In fact, with outside temperatures above 42 C, heavy dehumidification is not normally necessary, and thus the use of refrigerated water at temperatures below 9 or 7 C. The use of low temperatures, in fact, would compromise the unit s yield without noticeable comfort benefits. 21

GA High Efficiency GA Series - LB Version REFRIGERATION L I N E REFRIGERATION The GA series LB version water refrigerators are natural gas or LPG absorption units built for specific refrigeration applications, i.e. for the production of low temperature fluid suitable for foodstuff conservation plants, cooling foodstuff laboratories and refrigerator cells for processing foodstuffs, for which very low space temperatures are required. Their operation is therefore likely for 12 months a year. The units LB have been designed and built, taking into consideration the specific operating conditions of their field of use: - Operational range: ambient air -12 C / +45 C - Minimum outlet water T: -10 C - Nominal single power 12.8 kw, outlet fluid T - 5 C 5 cooling models available from 12.8 to 64 kw 4 available versions: basic LB low noise LB-S stainless steel LB-I low noise and in stainless steel LB-S-I Coolant load optimized. Should the refrigerated fluid in the system be able to come into contact with foodstuffs, even accidentally, a non-toxic antifreeze fluid(e.g. propyl glycol) must be used. The unit s refrigeration LB yield refers to an exchange fluid with antifreeze already added (40%), and thus takes account of the refrigertion yield exchange losses at the unit s evaporator. This yield correction must also be made for calculating the terminal units (AHU and fan-coils). Units LB are sensitive outside temperature, so it advisable to check the unit s yield in the planned conditions of use, to prevent the systems from being overspecified. 25
