Introduction ScaleSolver 5544 What To Expect And Quick Facts What to Expect Things To Consider And Other Cautions LifeSource ScaleSolver with PowerTAC is a high efficiency Template Assisted Crystallization (TAC) scale prevention system for homes and businesses. ScaleSolver systems do not add anything to water and retain the healthy and beneficial minerals such as calcium and magnesium. A ScaleSolver physically conditions the healthy hardness minerals, converting them into harmless, microscopic crystals that do not buildup in household water appliances, fixtures, pipes and water heaters. Mineral deposits on countertops and faucets will easily wipe off without special treatment. Your First 30-90 Days Faucet aerators may plug occasionally as old scale is removed from your plumbing system and water heater. Using ScaleSolver With Other Water Treatment Equipment Due to the unique properties of ScaleSolver, there are requirements for using the ScaleSolver system. 1. The ScaleSolver system works best when paired with the LifeSource water filtration unit. A whole house water filter removes harmful chemicals that can reduce the service life of the ScaleSolver media. 2. ScaleSolver must be the final stage in the treatment chain. Do not install filters after ScaleSolver or before any devices for which scale prevention is required. POU filters, e.g. carbon or R.O. are exempt from this requirement. 3. Do not apply phosphate or any other antiscalant before or after the ScaleSolver system. After your system has been installed, you may see cloudy water. This is from air bubbles or descaling. We recommend that you allow the water to run for at least 10-15 minutes, at each faucet, to eliminate the problem.! CAUTIONS ScaleSolver Quick Facts The ScaleSolver unit provides chemical and salt-free scale prevention. The ScaleSolver unit does not add anything to water, and is safe for drinking and cooking. The ScaleSolver unit is highly recommended for tankless water heaters. Descales exisiting buildup in pipes, fixtures and water heaters. No electricity, no wastewater - the ScaleSolver system is completely self-contained. Beneficial minerals retained for healthier drinking water. Improves the efficiency of appliances that use water. Safe for landscaping and irrigation. Do not let the system freeze. Damage to the tank may be a result. System must be operated in a vertical position. Do not lay it down during operation. The system may be placed in any position during shipping and installation, but must be operated in the vertical position. Place the system on a smooth, level surface. Because the system operates in an UP-Flow, fluidized bed mode, having a level surface is important. A bypass valve should be installed on every system to facilitate installation and service. Observe all local plumbing and building codes when installing the system. Chlorine must not be above 3.0 PPM. A filter is recommended. Copper and other metals must not be above EPA standards for municipal water. 3 4
Good Practices Maximizing The Benefits Of Your ScaleSolver System Good Practices Good Practices Continued... The ScaleSolver system will improve the properties of water throughout the home. It s important to keep in mind that the ScaleSolver system is not a water softener. Below are some things to expect, and some recommendations that can maximize the benefits provided by the ScaleSolver system. Sinks and Fixtures - Water spots will be reduced. If water is allowed to evaporate off a surface, small spots may be left behind. If wiped off frequently, water spots should not require any more than a wet cloth or sponge to remove. No harsh chemicals should be required, as is typical with hard water spots. Within the first 30-90 days of having the ScaleSolver system installed, we recommend checking all faucet screens for excess scale particles. Dishwasher - Water spots on dishes and on the surface of the dishwasher should be greatly reduced. We recommend immediately reducing the amount of dishwashing detergent after installation. Using dishwashing detergents that are low in phosphates are better for the environment and reduce water spots. Citric acid or Lemi Shine can help reduce water spots and will aid the ScaleSolver system in clearing scale buildup from dishwashers. The use of dishwashing pods are not recommended. They include more than the suggested amount of soap per load. Shower Doors and Tiles - Water spots will be reduced. When water evaporates off a surface, small spots may be left behind. These spots should be easy to remove with a damp cloth or sponge. In very hard water areas, treating the shower glass with Rain-X glass cleaner will further reduce cleaning requirements. Bath - Soaps and shampoos will lather more than with untreated water. Soaps and shampoos will also rinse off much easier without the slippery feel that is normally associated with soft water. We recommend the use of low phosphate soaps. Water Heater - We recommend draining water heaters at least 30-60 days after installation. This is a good practice that can dramatically increase the life of water heaters. Once cleared, the ScaleSolver system will help keep the tank and other heating appliances free of scale and operating at peak efficiency. Laundry will also require the use of less detergent. The use of detergent pods are not recommended when using a LifeSource System. 5 6
