General Information The Warm Line IV Fluid Warmer is a dry- heat device. This unit is designed to warm IV fluids safely through the heating plate. The Warm Line does not control the fluid flow rate. Fluids can be warmed to temperatures between 96º-104º F (35.5ºC-40ºC) at flow rates up to 320ml/hr. The IV warmer is not recommended for blood because it can reach 104ºF. Precautions Save this Manual for Future Reference IMPORTANT: Before using the Warm Line IV Fluid Warmer, please read and understand this User s Guide and the SAFETY PRECAUTIONS prior to use. If you have any questions, please contact Jorgensen Laboratories at 1-800-525-5614. Electromagnetic Interference- The Warm Line IV Fluid Warmer uses Radio Frequency (RF) energy for its internal function. The RF emissions are very low and are not likely to cause interference with nearby electronic equipment. If interference is detected with other devices and the Fluid warmer, do the following: Remove interfering device from the room Plug the IV Fluid Warmer into an isolated outlet Increase separation between the fluid warmer and the interfering device Warnings Failure to follow the warnings could result in the administration of air to the patient which could cause death or serious injury. All Air must be purged from the fluid lines prior to connection of the patient. Monitor the fluid lines to insure they are air free. Never administer fluids if there are air bubbles in the line between the drip chamber and the patient connection. Prohibit from using the IV Fluid Warmer around water as it can cause electrical shock The IV Fluid warmer shall be used under the guidance of medical staff and shall not be used with heat sensitive medications. Unauthorized personnel should not dismantle the machine. The IV Fluid Warmer heating plate is hot, do not touch the plate as it can result in injuries. Do not flush or emerge the IV Fluid Warmer in any fluid, or cleaning solutions. 2
Introduction The use of room temperature (70ºF/21ºC) IV fluids in a patient suffering from shock, or susceptibility to hypothermia should be avoided. Ideally fluids should be administered as close to body temperature as possible for better therapeutic results. Working Principle The Warm Line IV Fluid Warmer is an indirect heating device (dry warmer). The IV fluids are heated as the fluids pass through the channel of the warmer. User s Operation Operation Steps: 1. Hang the warmer on the IV pole, adjust the strap to the appropriate length Note: If the infusion pump is being used, it should be placed slightly under the IV line s exit from the pump. 2. Open the door, place the IV line ( 4mm) into the S-shaped groove on the heating plate. Once the IV line is placed in the groove, close the door. 3. Plug the power cord into a properly grounded outlet. The power indicator light will be green, indicating the warmer has been turned on. 4. Press the grey button on the front panel to switch the temperature between Fahrenheit and Celsius. 5. The warmer will start to warm up immediately once it is plugged in. The run indicator will flash Yellow when the device is heating up and will go off when the heating plate reaches approximately 105ºF (41ºC). The warmer will automatically turn on again once the temperature inside the warmer decreases. 6. The displayed temperature value on the LCD Display is the temperature at the exit of the warmer. 7. When finished using the warmer, remove the power cord from the outlet. Clean the surface of the IV Fluid Warmer. Using a cloth wipe the unit with 70-75% solution of Isopropyl Alcohol and water to clean and sterilize the unit. (75% is the maximum strength recommended) Important: A backup system with the warmer is independent of the main controller.
