ST Air cooled water chillers, axial fans, hermetic scroll compressors, shell and tube evaporators, refrigerant gas R410A. Minimum 2 compressors for each circuit. Units designed for industrial applications. Only for outdoor installation. Cooling capacity from 49 up to 484 kw R410A refrigerant www.coldinnovation.it 3

Available versions CHILLER: basic version with oversized evaporator and condenser, for maximum energy saving; very large operative range of outdoor air temperature from-15 C up to 46 C. SILENT: unit equipped with soundproof compressors and fan speed decreased for limited noise levels. The unit can work during the night with reduced fan speed. PARTIAL HEAT RECOVERY (desuperheater): an heat exchanger is inserted along the compressors discharge line before the condenser, it s able to desuperheat the hot gas and produces hot water up to 55 C. The amount of recovered energy is around the 30% of the cooling energy production. TOTAL HEAT RECOVERY: a water condenser is inserted on the discharge line of the compressors in parallel with the air condenser, when the recovery circuit is not satisfied, a changeover valve diverts the refrigerant hot gas in the water condenser, to transfer the total condensing energy on the hot water circuit. The amount of recovered energy is around the 135% of the cooling energy production. TWO FREECOOLING VERSIONS: STANDARD FREECOOLING: near the finned condenser there is a second finned heat exchanger with water inside (freecooling exchanger); if the external air temperature falls below than a conveniently limit, a switch valve diverts the water flow through the freecooling exchanger (freecooling and compressors work together); when outdoor air temperature falls under a second project limit, all compressors are completely stopped: - The air flow by fans cools directly the water inside the freecooling exchanger and the EER of the unit increase up to 20-22 W/W. - This solution needs to use water with antifreeze for the winter period for antifreeze protection. FREECOOLING WITH SEPARATED CIRCUIT: the freecooling circuit is separate from user circuit, so the antifreeze mixture charge can be limit to it; the chiller mode has more efficiency and the user plant is in global less expensive. CLIENT: units with special equipment or devices. 4 www.coldinnovation.it

Features Structure of electro-galvanized and painted steel sheet Air condensed water chiller with scroll compressors. Ecological refrigerant R410A This refrigerant R410A with zero ozone depletion potential (ODP=0) together with a very low value for the global warming effective potential, is the best choice for circuits with scroll compressors. Thanks to its characteristics of heat transfer and its heat capacity in the gas phase, allows high yields of condensers having small diameter tube, and can reduce the airflow needed for condensation. R410A www.coldinnovation.it 5

Scroll compressors two or three high-efficiency scroll compressors, on each circuit refrigerator for maximum energy efficiency at partial loads. The choice of scroll compressor allows you to have low vibration and noise emissions. Reliability is high thanks to the reduced number of moving parts and to the high capacity of the compressor to adapt to many different conditions. Scroll Compressor section Due to its construction, hermetic scroll compressors withstand at flooded start much better than the piston or screw compressors (in faulty conditions). In addition thanks to have multiple compressors on the same circuit, when only one of them is started (this happen during many hours in a year) it can work with oversized of the heat exchangers and this produce a bigger efficiency during working conditions partialized. The example is as follows: If a circuit with two compressors has a value of EER= 2.70 W/W, when on the same circuit only one compressor operates the EER value climbs to 3.74 W/W; the result of this technology is that the value of ESEER (seasonal average efficiency) increases much more than in chillers with only one compressor per circuit. Condenser coils with high-efficiency design, equipped by internally grooved copper tubes for maximize the heat exchange, with small diameter to minimize the refrigerant charge. Finned condenser The special profile of the fins allows to obtain excellent performance of heat exchange with the air, together with the use of internally grooved tubes we have low values of the condensing temperature and consequently high compressors performances. In the case of heat pumps, the fins have hydrophilic surface treatment in order to obtain high performance of water drain during defrosting of the battery. 6 www.coldinnovation.it

Shell and tube evaporators specifically designed for R410A, they allows the use of water not perfectly clean. The tube bundle is composed of a series of pre-modelled U-shaped tubes enabling the free expansion of them independently from the shell. The buffles are positioned so as to enable an optimal flow rate compatible with the pressure drop which may occur. The water connections are provided with flexible joints for the following advantage: - easy and low cost installation (assembly and disassembly) - adaptability in case of shifts, dilatation and other movements - absorption of vibrations. The materials are: - carbon steel: header, tube sheet, shell, refrigerant and water connections - copper: heat exchange tubes with inner finned surface - bonded steel bolts fit for the temperatures generated during use. Shell and tube evaporator Axial fans The chillers are normally supplied with fans equipped with EC motor (Electronically Commutated Motor) that enable high performance. At full load, an EC motor saves 20% energy compared to a conventional AC motor and the difference increases up to 57% when the comparison is made at partialized conditions, with the air flow capacity equal to half of the maximum flow. The higher cost of the fans with EC motor is repaid by the energy saving after about 2 years of unit work. In addition to energy saving the low axial fans speed, facilitate limited noise levels when the unit works during the night. Fan with EC motor www.coldinnovation.it 7

Thermostatic expansion valves Standard production is equipped by thermostatic expansion valves to ensure a return of dry gas to the compressor. Electronic expansion valves on request by request the unit can be equipped with electronic expansion valves. These valves, via an electronic driver, a temperature sensor and a pressure transmitter, are able to provide a more precise value of superheating. The graph below shows the effect of switching between the operation of a chiller with a TEV (thermostatic expansion valve) to an EEV (electronic expansion valve). The lowering of the average superheat value, the stability of the value itself and the operating pressure are clearly evident. Its use is highly recommended in the case of heat pumps, where in winter operation, it allows to have a very low superheating (this allow COP increasing) and the correct function of unit also with much lower outdoor air temperatures, up to 3 C less compared to use of thermostatic valves. Carel controllers and Electronic Expansion Valve 8 www.coldinnovation.it

Electronic regulation by a microprocessor card for the management and control of all functional parameters The controls normally used are parametric products of Carel. For chillers up to 4 compressors the used control is μc2-se. For the other units is used μc3 with a semigraphic terminal, where available languages are English, Italian and Spanish. On request or for special units, it is possible use controllers belonging to family Carel pco or from other manufacturers. In any case, the functions controlled are: a. regulation on inlet water temperature, with the alternative possibility of adjusting the output water temperature; b. management of cooling capacity (or heating) with turning ON or OFF the compressors, depending on the request of the hydronic circuit; the control is such that the number of operating hours per year of each compressor, is the same for everyone; c. prevent high pressure - this function allows you to turn off one of the compressors on the same circuit when the condensing pressure rises too much; d. reverse cycle for hot gas defrost; e. fan speed regulation (to handle the condensing pressure as a function of load and air ambient temperature) allows to use the chiller also in very low ambient temperatures; f. management of evaporating pressure in heat pump mode - this feature allows the modulation of the fans when the outdoor air temperature is above 5-6 C to reduce noise emissions to a minimum level; g. antifreeze heaters - a set of heaters protect the parts of circuits containing water when their temperature ( caused from low outdoor air temperature) drops below the safety threshold; h. low noise mode this feature as standard on SILENT version, allows you to change the fan speed adjustment in the night hours, with limited noise emission; i. evaporator pump control; backup evaporator pump; rotation pumps (active only in the presence of double pump); energy save mode (pump switched on only when needed) - this feature allows a considerable energy saving, trough turning ON the pump for only as long it is necessary - this function is useful when you have constant water flow on chiller side and variable water flow on the system side, by inserting a manifold by-pass between them: the maximum benefit is obtained when a buffer tank is installed; j. water flow switch; k. variable set point of water temperature depending on outdoor air temperature (sliding set temperature) or by external contact; l. start compressors by external contacts (only condensing units); m. communication with supervisory systems; n. anti freeze alarm; o. high low pressure alarms p. compressors alarm q. water flow alarm r. pump alarm μc2se μc3 semigraphic terminal www.coldinnovation.it 9

Hydronic circuit The unit is normally equipped with Victaulic flexible couplings complete with clamps and solder terminals. On request the unit can be completed with the provision of pump, safety valve, water filter and backup pump. It is possible to choose between low pressure pump, and high pressure pump with standard performance. For special requirements is possible to install special pumps. The circuits are protected against freezing by heaters, down to outdoor air temperature of -15 C. 10 www.coldinnovation.it
