This document identifies these references and provides the applicable reference in NFPA 1/UFC. This would be part of the adoption language when adopting NFPA 1/UFC in place of the IFC. 101.4.6 The provisions of the International Fire Code shall apply to matters affecting or relating to structures, processes and premises from the hazard of fire and explosion arising from the storage, handling or use of structures, materials or devices; from conditions hazardous to life, property or public welfare in the occupancy of structures or premises; and from the construction, extension, repair, alteration or removal of fire suppression and alarm systems or fire hazards in the structure or on the premises from occupancy or operation. 102.6 Existing structures. The legal occupancy of any structure existing on the date of adoption of this Code shall be permitted to continue without change, except as is specifically covered in this Code, the International Property Maintenance Code or the International Fire Code, or as is deemed necessary by the building official for the general safety and welfare of the occupants and the public. 101.2 This Code establishes regulations affecting or relating to structures, processes and premises and safeguards from the hazard of fire and explosion arising from the storage, handling or use of structures, materials or devices; from conditions hazardous to life, property or public welfare in the occupancy of structures or premises from fire hazards in the structure or on the premise from occupancy or operation; and, matters related to the construction, extension, repair, alteration or removal of fire suppression and alarm systems. 102.2 Administrative, operational and maintenance provisions. The administrative, operational and maintenance provisions of this Code shall apply to: 1. Conditions and operations arising after the adoption of this 2. 201.3 Terms defined in other Codes. Where terms are not defined in this Code and are defined in the International Fuel Gas Code, International Fire Code, International Mechanical Code or International Plumbing Code, such terms shall have the meanings ascribed to them as in those Codes. 307.1. Hazardous uses are classified in Groups H-1, H-2, H-3, H-4 and H-5 and shall be in accordance with this section, the requirements of Section 415 and the 1. This chapter shall apply to all hazardous materials, including those materials regulated elsewhere in this Code, except that when specific requirements are provided in other chapters, those specific requirements shall apply in accordance with the applicable chapter. Where a material has multiple hazards, all hazards shall be addressed. 3.1 General. 307.1.1 Hazardous materials. Hazardous materials in any quantity shall conform to the requirements of this Code, including Section 414, and the Table 307.1(1) e. Quantities shall be increased 100 percent when stored in approved cabinets, gas cabinets, exhausted enclosures, or safety cans as specified in the International Fire Table 307.1(2) f. 406.6.1 General. Repair garages shall be constructed in accordance with the International Fire Code and this section. This occupancy shall not include motor fuel-dispensing facilities, as regulated in Section 406.5. 410.3.6 Scenery. Combustible materials used in sets and scenery shall meet the fire propagation performance criteria of NFPA 701, in accordance with Section 807 and the Foam plastics and materials containing foam plastics shall comply with Section 2603 and the 411.1 General. Special amusement buildings having an occupant load of 50 or more shall comply with the requirements for the appropriate Group A Exception: Amusement buildings or portions thereof that are without walls or a roof and constructed to prevent the accumulation of smoke. Aircraft paint hangars shall comply with the applicable requirements of this Code and the 2211.1 General. Repair garages shall comply with this section and the International Building Repair garages for vehicles that use more than one type of fuel shall comply with the applicable provisions of this section for each type of fuel used. 807.1 General requirements. In 0ccupancies in Groups A, E, I and R-1 and dormitories in Group R-2, curtains, draperies, hangings and other decorative materials suspended from walls or ceilings shall meet the flame propagation performance criteria of NFPA 701 in accordance with Section 806.2 or be noncombustible. 801.1 Scope. The provisions of this chapter shall govern furniture and furnishings, interior finishes, interior trim, decorative materials and decorative vegetation in buildings. Sections 803, 804 and 805 shall be applicable to new and existing buildings. Section 806 shall be applicable to existing buildings. 1101.1 Scope. Airports, heliports, helistops and aircraft hangars shall be in accordance with this chapter. 5 Chapter 42 shall apply to refueling of automotive vehicles, marine vessels, and aircraft. 20.1.2.1 Combustible scenery of cloth, film, vegetation (dry), and similar materials shall meet the requirements of NFPA 701, Standard Methods of Fire Tests for Flame Propagation of Textiles and Films. 12.6 Furnishings, Contents, Decorations, and Treated Finishes. Furnishings, contents, decorations, and treated finishes in buildings and structures shall meet the requirements of NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, and this 21.1 The construction and protection of aircraft hangars from fire shall comply with this section; NFPA 409, Standard on Aircraft Hangars; NFPA 410, Standard on Aircraft Maintenance; and Section 40.6 and Section 42.6 of NFPA 101 Life Safety

413.1 General. High-piled stock or rack storage in any occupancy group shall comply with the 414.1.1 Other provisions. Storage of combustible paper records shall be in accordance with NFPA 13 and NFPA 230. 5. Storage of combustible fibers shall be in accordance with Chapter 29. 6. Storage of miscellaneous combustible material shall be in accordance with Chapter 3. 2701.1 Scope. Prevention, control and mitigation of dangerous conditions related to storage, dispensing, use and handling of hazardous materials shall be in accordance with this chapter. 2701.1 Scope. 414.1.2.1 Aerosols. Level 2 and 3 aerosol products shall be stored and displayed in accordance with the 414.2 Control areas. Control areas shall comply with Sections 414.2.1 through 414.2.5 and the International Fire 414.2.5 Hazardous material in Group M display and storage areas and in Group S storage areas. Provided that the materials are displayed and stored in accordance with the International Fire Code and quantities do not exceed the maximum allowable specified in Table 414.2.5(1). The provisions of this chapter, the International Building Code and NFPA 30B shall apply to the manufacturing, storage and display of aerosol products. Manufacturing of aerosol products using hazardous materials shall also comply with Chapter 27. 2703.1.1 Maximum allowable quantity per control area. The maximum allowable quantity per control area shall be as specified in Tables 2703.1.1(1) through 2703.1.1(4). 2703.11.3 Storage and display. Storage and display shall be in accordance with Sections 2703.11.3.1 through 2703.11.3.10. 2703.11.3 Storage and display. The aggregate quantity of nonflammable solid and nonflammable or noncombustible liquid hazardous materials permitted within a single control area of a mercantile, storage, or industrial occupancy shall be permitted to exceed the maximum allowable quantities specified in Table 60.1.3.1. 60.1.3.3.1 Maximum Allowable Quantity Increases for Mercantile, Storage, and Industrial Occupancies. The aggregate quantity of nonflammable solid and nonflammable or noncombustible liquid hazardous materials permitted within a single control area of a mercantile, storage, or industrial occupancy shall be permitted to exceed the maximum allowable quantities specified in Table 60.1.3.1. 7

For retail and wholesale storage and display of nonflammable solid and nonflammable or noncombustible liquid hazardous materials in Group M retail sales occupancies, see Section 2703.11. 2701.1 Prevention, control and mitigation of dangerous conditions related to storage, dispensing, use and handling of hazardous materials shall be in accordance with this chapter. 2705.1 Use, dispensing and handling of hazardous materials in amounts not exceeding the maximum allowable quantity per control area set forth in Section 2703.1 shall be in accordance with Sections 2701 and 2703. 911.1 Explosion control shall be provided in the following locations: 60.1.1.2 Buildings and portions thereof containing high hazard contents that are limited to the following need not comply with Chapter 60: (2) Flammable and combustible liquids associated with wholesale and retail sales and storage in mercantile occupancies and complying with Chapter 66. 60.1.1 Occupancies containing high hazard contents shall comply with this chapter in addition to other applicable requirements of this Code, except as specified in 60.1.2. 60.1.3.1 General. Maximum allowable quantities of hazardous materials per control area shall be as specified in Table 60.1.3.1, except as modified by 60.1.3.2 and 60.1.3.3. 60.3.2.6 Explosion Control. Buildings, or portions thereof, required to comply with Protection Level 1 through Protection Level 3 and containing materials shown in Table 60.3.2.6 shall be provided with a means of explosion control. 8

Rooms, buildings or areas used for the storage of liquid or solid hazardous materials shall be provided with spill control and secondary containment in accordance with Sections 2704.2.1 through 2704.2.3. 60.3.2.6 Explosion Control. Buildings, or portions thereof, required to comply with Protection Level 1 through Protection Level 3 and containing materials shown in Table 60.3.2.6 shall be provided with a means of explosion control. 60.3.2.6 Explosion Control. Exceptions: 1. Liquid use, dispensing and mixing rooms having a floor area of not more than 500 square feet where they are in accordance with the International Fire Code and NFPA 30. 2. Liquid storage rooms having a floor area of not more than 1,000 square feet where they are in accordance with the International Fire Code and NFPA 30. 415.3.1 Group H occupancy minimum fire separation distance. Buildings containing Group H occupancies when separation is provided in accordance with the quantity distance tables specified for explosive materials in the 2701.1 Prevention, control and mitigation of dangerous conditions related to storage, dispensing, use and handling of hazardous materials shall be in accordance with this chapter. 2705.1 Use, dispensing and handling of hazardous materials in amounts exceeding the maximum allowable quantity per control area set forth in Section 2703.1 shall be in accordance with Sections 2701, 2703 and 2705. 2701.1 Prevention, control and mitigation of dangerous conditions related to storage, dispensing, use and handling of hazardous materials shall be in accordance with this chapter. Table 415.3.1 e. Magazine is a building or structure approved for storage of explosive materials. In addition to the requirements of this Code, magazines shall comply with the International Fire Table 415.3.2 a. See Chapter 33 International Fire Code 415.6 Group H-2. Occupancies in Group H-2 shall be constructed in accordance with Sections 415.7.1 through 415.7.4 and the International Fire Table 3304.3 Storage Amounts and Magazine Requirements for Explosives, Explosive Materials and Fireworks Maximum Allowable Quantity per Control Area 3301.1 Scope. The provisions of this chapter shall govern the possession, manufacture, storage, handling, sale and use of explosives, explosive materials, fireworks and small arms ammunition. 2701.1 Prevention, control and mitigation of dangerous conditions related to storage, dispensing, use and handling of hazardous materials shall be in accordance with this chapter. 65.9.1 The manufacture, transportation, storage, sale, and use of explosive materials shall comply with NFPA 495, Explosive Materials Code, and NFPA 498, Standard for Safe Havens and Interchange Lots for Vehicles Transporting Explosives. 65.1.1 The storage, use, and handling of explosives, fireworks and model rocketry shall comply with the requirements of this chapter, NFPA Standards referenced within this chapter and Section 60.1 and Section 60.2 of this 60.1.1 Occupancies containing high hazard contents shall comply with this chapter in addition to other applicable requirements of this Code, except as specified in 60.1.2. 11

415.6.1 Combustible dusts, grain processing and storage. The provisions of Sections 415.7.1.1 through 415.7.1.5 shall apply to buildings in which materials that produce combustible dusts are stored or handled. Buildings which store or handle combustible dusts shall comply with the applicable provisions of NFPA 61, NFPA 65, NFPA 120, NFPA 651, NFPA 654, NFPA 655, NFPA 664 and NFPA 8503, and the International Fire 1304.1 Standards. The fire Code official is authorized to enforce applicable provisions of the Codes and standards listed in Table 1304.1 to prevent and control dust explosions. Standard NFPA 61 NFPA 69 NFPA 85 NFPA 120 NFPA 484 NFPA 654 NFPA 655 Subject Agricultural and Food Explosion Prevention Boiler and Combustion System Hazards Coal Preparation Plants Combustible Metals, Metal Powders and Metal Dusts Manufacturing, Processing and Handling of Combustible Particulate Solids Prevention of Sulfur Fires and Explosions 40.1 Equipment, processes, and operations that involve the manufacture, processing, blending, repackaging, or handling of combustible particulate solids or combustible dusts regardless of concentration or particle size shall be installed and maintained in accordance with the following standards as applicable: (1) NFPA 61, Standard for the Prevention of Fires and Dust Explosions in Agricultural and Food Processing Facilities (2) NFPA 69, Standard on Explosion Prevention Systems (3) NFPA 85, Boiler and Combustion Systems Hazards Code (4) NFPA 120, Standard for Coal Preparation Plants (5) NFPA 484, Standard for Combustible Metals, Metal Powders, and Metal Dusts (6) NFPA 654, Standard for the Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions from the Manufacturing, Processing, and Handling of Combustible Particulate Solids (7) NFPA 655, Standard for Prevention of Sulfur Fires and Explosions (8) NFPA 664, Standard for the Prevention of Fires and Explosions in Wood Processing and Woodworking Facilities NFPA 664 ICC Electrical Code Prevention of Fires and Explosions in Wood Processing and Woodworking Facilities Electrical Installations 415.6.1.4 Explosion control shall be provided as specified in the 911.1 General. Explosion control shall be provided in the following locations: 60.3.2.6 Explosion Control. Buildings, or portions thereof, required to comply with Protection Level 1 through Protection Level 3 and containing materials shown in Table 60.3.2.6 shall be provided with a means of explosion control. 12

415.6.2 Flammable and combustible liquids. The storage, handling processing and transporting shall be in accordance with the International Mechanical Code, International Fire 415.6.2.3 Storage tanks shall be approved tanks conforming to the requirements of the International Fire 415.6.2.5 Leakage containment. A liquid-tight containment area compatible with the stored liquid shall be provided. The method of spill control, drainage control and secondary containment shall be in accordance with the 415.6.2.7 Tank vent. Storage tank vents for Class I, II or IIIA liquids shall terminate to the outdoor air in accordance with the International Fire 3401.1 Prevention, control and mitigation of dangerous conditions related to storage, use, dispensing, mixing and handling of flammable and combustible liquids shall be in accordance with Chapter 27 and this chapter. 3404.2.7 Design, construction and general installation requirements for tanks. The design, fabrication and construction of tanks shall comply with NFPA 30. Each tank shall bear a permanent nameplate or marking indicating the standard used as the basis of design. 3403.4 Spill control and secondary containment. Where the maximum allowable quantity per control area is exceeded, and when required by Section 2704.2, rooms, buildings or areas used for storage, dispensing, use, mixing or handling of Class I, II and III-A liquids shall be provided with spill control and secondary containment in accordance with Section 2704.2. 3404.2.7.3 Tank vents for normal venting. Tank vents for normal venting shall be installed and maintained in accordance with Sections 3404.2.7.3.1 through 3404.2.7.3.6.. The vents shall be installed and maintained in accordance with Section 2.2.5.1 of NFPA 30 or API 2000. 66.1.1 The storage, use, and handling of flammable and combustible liquids, including waste liquids, shall comply with this chapter, NFPA 30, Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code, and Section 60.1 and Section 60.2 of this 66.2.1 Scope. Chapter 66 shall apply to the following: (3) The design, installation, testing, operation, and maintenance of such tanks, portable tanks, and bulk containers 60.3.2.8.1 General. Buildings, or portions thereof, required to comply with Protection Level 1 through Protection Level 5 shall be provided with spill control and secondary containment in accordance with 60.3.2.8.2 and 60.3.2.8.3, except for outdoor storage on containment pallets complying with 60.3.2.10. 66.1.1 The storage, use, and handling of flammable and combustible liquids, including waste liquids, shall comply with this chapter, NFPA 30, Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code, and Section 60.1 and Section 60.2 of this 13

415.6.2.8 Room ventilation. Storage tank areas storing Class I, II or IIIA liquids shall be provided with mechanical ventilation. The mechanical ventilation system shall be in accordance with the International Mechanical Code and the International Fire 415.6.2.9 Explosion venting. Where Class I liquids are being stored, explosion venting shall be provided in accordance with the International Fire 415.6.3 Liquefied petroleum gasdistribution facilities. The storage and handling of liquefied petroleum gas systems shall conform to the 3406.4.4 Ventilation. Ventilation shall be provided for rooms, buildings and enclosures in which Class I liquids are pumped, used or transferred. Design of ventilation systems shall consider the relatively high specific gravity of the vapors. When natural ventilation is used, adequate openings in outside walls at floor level, unobstructed except by louvers or coarse screens, shall be provided. When natural ventilation is inadequate, mechanical ventilation shall be provided in accordance with the International Mechanical Section 911 Explosion Control Such areas shall be provided with explosion (deflagration) venting, explosion (deflagration) prevention systems, or barricades in accordance with this section and NFPA 69, or NFPA 495 as applicable. Deflagration venting shall not be utilized as a means to protect buildings from detonation hazards. 3801.1 Scope. Storage, handling and transportation of LP-gas and the installation of LP-gas equipment pertinent to systems for such uses shall comply with this chapter and NFPA 58. 66.4.4.2.7 Liquid storage areas where dispensing is conducted shall be provided with either a gravity or a continuous mechanical exhaust ventilation system. Mechanical ventilation shall be used if Class I liquids are dispensed within the room. 60.3.2.6 Explosion Control. Buildings, or portions thereof, required to comply with Protection Level 1 through Protection Level 3 and containing materials shown in Table 60.3.2.6 shall be provided with a means of explosion control. A.60.3.2.6 (4) NFPA 68, Guide for Venting of Deflagrations, provides information and guidance on how to design and install deflagration (explosion) venting. 69.1.1.1 The storage, use, and handling of liquefied petroleum gases (LP-Gas) shall comply with the requirements of this chapter; NFPA 58, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code; and Sections 60.1 and 60.2 of this 14

415.6.3.3.3 Explosion venting. Explosion venting shall be provided in accordance with the International Fire 415.6.3.5 Rooms within buildings. Where liquefied petroleum gasdistribution facilities are located in rooms within buildings, such rooms shall be located in the first story above grade plane and shall have at least one exterior wall with sufficient exposed area to provide explosion venting as required in the 415.6.4 Dry cleaning plants. The construction and installation of dry cleaning plants shall be in accordance with the requirements of this Code, and NFPA 32. Dry cleaning solvents and systems shall be classified in accordance with the International Fire 415.7 Groups H-3 and H-4. Groups H- 3 and H-4 shall be constructed in accordance with the applicable provisions of this Code and the Section 911 Explosion Control Such areas shall be provided with explosion (deflagration) venting, explosion (deflagration) prevention systems, or barricades in accordance with this section and NFPA 69, or NFPA 495 as applicable. Deflagration venting shall not be utilized as a means to protect buildings from detonation hazards. Section 911 Explosion Control Such areas shall be provided with explosion (deflagration) venting, explosion (deflagration) prevention systems, or barricades in accordance with this section and NFPA 69, or NFPA 495 as applicable. Deflagration venting shall not be utilized as a means to protect buildings from detonation hazards. 1201.1 Scope. Dry cleaning plants and their operations shall comply with the requirements of this chapter. 3405.3.7.1 Construction, location and fire protection. Rooms or buildings classified in accordance with the International Building Code as Group H-2 or H-3 occupancies based on use, dispensing or mixing of flammable or combustible liquids shall be constructed in accordance the International Building 60.3.2.6 Explosion Control. Buildings, or portions thereof, required to comply with Protection Level 1 through Protection Level 3 and containing materials shown in Table 60.3.2.6 shall be provided with a means of explosion control. A.60.3.2.6 (4) NFPA 68, Guide for Venting of Deflagrations, provides information and guidance on how to design and install deflagration (explosion) venting. 60.3.2.6 Explosion Control. Buildings, or portions thereof, required to comply with Protection Level 1 through Protection Level 3 and containing materials shown in Table 60.3.2.6 shall be provided with a means of explosion control. A.60.3.2.6 (4) NFPA 68, Guide for Venting of Deflagrations, provides information and guidance on how to design and install deflagration (explosion) venting. 24.1.1 Drycleaning plants shall comply with NFPA 32, Standard for Drycleaning Plants, and this chapter. 60.2.4.1 Construction Requirements for Control Areas. Control areas shall be separated from each other by fire barriers in accordance with Table 60.2.4.1.1. 15

415.8.1 General. In addition to the requirements set forth elsewhere in this Code, Group H-5 shall comply with the provisions of Section 415.9 and the 415.8.2.7 Transporting hazardous production materials to fabrication areas. HPM shall be transported to fabrication areas through enclosed piping or tubing systems that comply with Section 415.8.6.1, through service corridors complying with Section 415.8.4, or in corridors as permitted in the exception to Section 415.8.3. The handling or transporting of HPM within service corridors shall comply with the 408.4 Group H-5 occupancies. Group H-5 occupancies shall comply with the requirements of Sections 408.4.1 through 408.4.4 and Sections 401 through 407. 1803.9 Service corridors. Hazardous materials shall not be used in an open-system use condition in service corridors. 60.3.1.5 Protection Level 5. Buildings, and portions thereof, used for fabrication of semiconductors or semiconductor research and development and containing quantities of hazardous materials exceeding the maximum allowable quantities of high hazard Level 5 contents permitted in control areas shall comply with applicable regulations for Protection Level 5, as set forth in the building code. 60.4.12.2 Emergency Alarm for Transportation of Hazardous Materials in Corridors or Exit Enclosures. When hazardous materials having a hazard ranking of 3 or 4 in accordance with NFPA 704 are transported through corridors or exit enclosures, there shall be an emergency telephone system, a local manual alarm station, or an approved alarminitiating device at not more than 150 ft (46 m) intervals and at each exit throughout the transport route. The signal shall be relayed to an approved central, proprietary, or remote station service or constantly attended on-site location and shall also initiate a local audible alarm. 16

415.8.5.1 General. Storage of HPM in fabrication areas shall be within approved or listed storage cabinets or gas cabinets, or within a workstation. The storage of hazardous production materials in quantities greater than those listed in Tables 307.7(1) or 307.7(2) shall be in liquid storage rooms, HPM rooms or gas rooms as appropriate for the materials stored. The storage of other hazardous materials shall be in accordance with other applicable provisions of this Code and the 415.8.7.2 Gas-detection system operation. Monitoring for highly toxic and toxic gases shall also comply with the requirements for such material in the 415.8.9.3 Signals. 8. Exhaust ventilation flow alarm devices for pyrophoric liquids and Class 3 waterreactive liquids cabinet exhaust ventilation systems required in Section 1805.2.3.5 of the International Fire 1805.2 Fabrication areas. The use of hazardous materials in fabrication areas shall be in accordance with Sections 1805.2.1 through 1805.2.3.5. 3704.2.2.10 Gas detection system. A gas detection system shall be provided to detect the presence of gas at or below the PEL or ceiling limit of the gas for which detection is provided. The system shall be capable of monitoring the discharge from the treatment system at or below one-half the IDLH limit. 1805.2.3.5 Pyrophoric liquids and Class 3 waterreactive liquids. 60.3.1.5 Protection Level 5. Buildings, and portions thereof, used for fabrication of semiconductors or semiconductor research and development and containing quantities of hazardous materials exceeding the maximum allowable quantities of high hazard Level 5 contents permitted in control areas shall comply with applicable regulations for Protection Level 5, as set forth in the building Code Chapter 68 Highly Toxic and Toxic Solids and Liquids NFPA 55:7.9.6 Gas Detection. Except as provided in 7.9.6.1, a continuous gas detection system in accordance with the requirements of 7.9.6.2 through 7.9.6.6 shall be provided for the indoor storage or use of toxic or highly toxic compressed gases. 71.1 General. The storage, use, and handling of pyrophoric solids and liquids shall comply with the requirements of Chapter 60. The storage, use, and handling of pyrophoric solids and liquids in amounts exceeding the maximum allowable quantity permitted in control areas as set forth in Chapter 60 shall also comply with the requirements of Chapter 71. 17

415.8.10.1 Required electrical systems. Emergency power shall be provided for electrically operated equipment and connected control circuits for the following systems: 10. Flow alarm switches for pyrophoric liquids and Class 3 water-reactive liquids cabinet exhaust ventilation systems required in Section 1805.2.3.5 of the 416.1 General. The provisions of this section shall apply to the construction, installation and use of buildings and structures, or parts thereof, for the spraying of flammable paints, varnishes and lacquers or other flammable materials or mixtures or compounds used for painting, varnishing, staining or similar purposes. Such construction and equipment shall comply with the 420.1 General. When required by the International Fire Code, hydrogen cutoff rooms shall be designed and constructed in accordance with this section. 420.7 Explosion control. Explosion control shall be provided in accordance with Chapter 9 of the International Fire 1805.2.3.5 Pyrophoric liquids and Class 3 waterreactive liquids. 1501.1 Scope. This chapter shall apply to locations or areas where any of the following activities are conducted: 1. The application of flammable or combustible paint, varnish, lacquer, stain, fiberglass resins or other flammable or combustible liquid applied by means of spray apparatus in continuous or intermittent processes. 2209.3.2.3 Indoors. Generation, compression, storage and dispensing equipment shall be located in indoor rooms or areas constructed in accordance with the requirements of the International Building Code, the International Fuel Gas Code and the International Mechanical Code and one of the following: Section 911 Explosion Control 71.1 General. The storage, use, and handling of pyrophoric solids and liquids shall comply with the requirements of Chapter 60. The storage, use, and handling of pyrophoric solids and liquids in amounts exceeding the maximum allowable quantity permitted in control areas as set forth in Chapter 60 shall also comply with the requirements of Chapter 71. 43.1.1* Operations involving the spray application of flammable and combustible materials shall comply with NFPA 33, Standard for Spray Application Using Flammable or Combustible Materials, and Section 43.1. 42.5.1.1.3 NFPA 52 shall apply to the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of compressed hydrogen (GH2), liquefied compressed hydrogen (LH2), and blends of hydrogen up to 20 percent with the balance natural gas (NG) vehicle fueling (dispensing) systems and engine fuel systems and facilities. 63.6 Gaseous Hydrogen Systems. Gaseous hydrogen systems shall comply with NFPA 55. 63.7 Liquefied Hydrogen Systems. Liquefied hydrogen systems shall comply with NFPA 55. 18

704.8.2 First story. In occupancies other than Group H, unlimited unprotected openings are permitted in the first story of exterior walls facing a street that have a fire separation distance of greater than 15 feet (4572 mm), or facing an unoccupied space, and shall have access from a street by a posted fire lane in accordance with the 901.2 Fire protection systems. Fire protection systems shall be installed, repaired, operated and maintained in accordance with this Code and the 901.3 Modifications. No person shall remove or modify any fire protection system installed or maintained under the provisions of this Code or the International Fire Code without approval by the building official. 503.1 Where required. Fire apparatus access roads shall be provided and maintained in accordance with Sections 503.1.1 through 503.1.3 901.1 Scope. The provisions of this chapter shall specify where fire protection systems are required and shall apply to the design, installation, inspection, operation, testing and maintenance of all fire protection systems Code and the applicable referenced standards. 105.3 Conditions of a permit. A permit shall constitute permission to maintain, store or handle materials; or to conduct processes which produce conditions hazardous to life or property; or to install equipment utilized in connection with such activities; or to install or modify any fire protection system equipment or operations will be granted. 18.1.1.1 Fire Apparatus Access Roads. 13.1.1 The AHJ shall have the authority to require that construction documents for all fire protection systems be submitted for review and approval and a permit be issued prior to the installation, rehabilitation, or modification. 13.1.7 All fire protection systems and devices shall be maintained in a reliable operating condition and shall be replaced or repaired where defective. 13.1.1 The AHJ shall have the authority to require that construction documents for all fire protection systems be submitted for review and approval and a permit be issued prior to the installation, rehabilitation, or modification. 19

901.5 Acceptance tests. Fire protection systems shall be tested in accordance with the requirements of this Code and the When required, the tests shall be conducted in the presence of the building official. Tests required by this Code, the International Fire Code and the standards listed in this Code shall be conducted at the expense of the owner or the owner s representative. 901.6.2 Fire alarm systems. Fire alarm systems required by the provisions of Section 907.2 of this Code and Section 907.2 of the International Fire Code shall be monitored by an approved supervising station in accordance with Section 907.14. 903.2.6.1 High-piled storage. An automatic sprinkler system shall be provided in accordance with the International Fire Code in all buildings of Group M where storage of merchandise is in high-piled or rack storage arrays. 903.2.11 During construction. Automatic sprinkler systems required during construction, alteration and demolition operations shall be provided in accordance with the International Fire 901.5 Installation acceptance testing. Fire detection and alarm systems, fire-extinguishing systems, fire hydrant systems, fire standpipe systems, fire pump systems, private fire service mains and all other fire protection systems and appurtenances thereto shall be subject to acceptance tests as contained in the installation standards and as approved by the fire Code official. The fire code official shall be notified before any required acceptance testing. 907.15 Monitoring. Where required by this chapter or by the International Building Code, an approved supervising station in accordance with NFPA 72 shall monitor fire alarm systems. 903.2.6.1 High-piled storage. An automatic sprinkler system shall be provided as required in Chapter 23 in all buildings of Group M where storage of merchandise is in high-piled or rack storage arrays. 903.2.11 During construction. Automatic sprinkler systems required during construction, alteration and demolition operations shall be provided in accordance with Section 1413. 13.1.1 The AHJ shall have the authority to require that construction documents for all fire protection systems be submitted for review and approval and a permit be issued prior to the installation, rehabilitation, or modification. Further, the AHJ shall have the authority to require that full acceptance tests of the systems be performed in the authority s presence prior to final system certification. 13.7.1.4.10.2 Where fire department notification is required by another section of this Code, the fire alarm system shall be arranged to transmit the alarm automatically via any of the following means acceptable to the AHJ and shall be in accordance with NFPA 72. 13.3.2.25.1 High-Piled Storage. An automatic sprinkler system shall be installed throughout all occupancies containing areas greater than 2500 ft2 (232 m2) for the high-piled storage of combustibles. 16.3.1 Fire Safety Program. An overall construction or demolition fire safety program shall be developed. Essential items to be emphasized include the following: (3) Installation of new fire protection systems as construction progresses (4) Preservation of existing systems during demolition 20

Table 903.2.13 Additional Required Suppression Systems 903.5 Testing and maintenance. Sprinkler systems shall be tested and maintained in accordance with the 904.2.1 Hood system suppression. Each required commercial kitchen exhaust hood and duct system required by the International Fire Code or the International Mechanical 905.1 General. Standpipe systems shall be provided in new buildings and structures in accordance with this section. Fire hose threads used in connection with standpipe systems shall be approved and shall be compatible with fire department hose threads. The location of fire department hose connections shall be approved. In buildings used for highpiled combustible storage, fire protection shall be in accordance with the 903.2.13 Other required suppression systems. In addition to the requirements of Section 903.2, the provisions indicated in Table 903.2.13 also require the installation of a suppression system for certain buildings and areas. 901.4.1 Required fire protection systems. Fire protection systems required by this Code or the International Building Code shall be installed, repaired, operated, tested and maintained in accordance with this 904.2.1 Hood system suppression. Each required commercial kitchen exhaust hood and duct system required by Section 610 to have a Type I hood shall be protected with an approved automatic fire-extinguishing system installed in accordance with this 2306.8 Fire department hose connections. Where exit passageways are required by the International Building Code for egress, a Class I standpipe system shall be provided in accordance with Section 905. 13.3.1.1 Automatic sprinklers shall be installed and maintained in full operating condition in the occupancies specified in this Code or in the Codes or standards referenced in Chapter 2. 13.3.1.1 Automatic sprinklers shall be installed and maintained in full operating condition in the occupancies specified in this Code or in the Codes or standards referenced in Chapter 2. 50.4.3.1 Fire-extinguishing equipment for the protection of grease removal devices, hood exhaust plenums, and exhaust duct systems shall be provided. (NFPA 1/UFC does not require standpipes in exit passageways, it requires the following) 60.4.12.2 Emergency Alarm for Transportation of Hazardous Materials in Corridors or Exit Enclosures. When hazardous materials having a hazard ranking of 3 or 4 in accordance with NFPA 704 are transported through corridors or exit enclosures, there shall be an emergency telephone system, a local manual alarm station, or an approved alarm-initiating device at not more than 150 ft (46 m) intervals and at each exit throughout the transport route. 905.3.6 Helistops and heliports. Buildings with a helistop or heliport that are equipped with a standpipe shall extend the standpipe to the roof level on which the helistop or heliport is located in accordance with Section 1107.5 of the 906.1 General. Portable fire extinguishers shall be provided in occupancies and locations as required by the 907.2.5 Group H. An automatic smoke detection system shall be installed for highly toxic gases, organic peroxides and oxidizers in accordance with Chapters 37, 39 and 40, of the 907.2.12.2 Emergency voice/alarm communication system. The operation in accordance with the building s fire safety and evacuation plans required by Section 404 of the 907.2.14 High-piled combustible storage areas. An automatic fire detection system shall be installed throughout high-piled combustible storage areas where required by the 1107.5 Standpipe systems. Where a building with a rooftop helistop or heliport is equipped with a standpipe system, the system shall be extended to the roof level on which the helistop or heliport is located. 906.1 Where required. Portable fire extinguishers shall be installed in the following locations. 906.2 General requirements. Portable fire extinguishers shall be selected, installed and maintained in accordance with this section and NFPA 10. Chapters 37, 39 and 40 404.1 General. If a building with a rooftop heliport is supplied with a standpipe system, a Class II standpipe shall be extended to the roof level on which the rooftop heliport is located. Such standpipe systems shall be installed in accordance with Section 13.2. 13.6.1.2 Where Required. Fire extinguishers shall be provided where required by this Code as specified in Table 13.6.1.2 and the referenced Codes and standards listed in Chapter 2. 13.7.1.4.8.1 Where required by other sections of this Code, actuation of the complete fire alarm system shall occur by any or all of the following means of initiation, but shall not be limited to such means: 10.9.1 Where Required.
