1 Introduction 1.1 Overview This document defines the Network Variables used by the Data Aire LonWorks protocol SNVT for the Data Air Processor III (DAP TM III) and the information of the Data Aire LonTalk Communication network card for LonTalk integration. 1.2 References Introduction to the LonWorks System Version 1.0, Echelon Corporation, 1999 ShortStack User s Guide Version 2, Echelon Corporation, March 2002 LonMark SNVT Master List, Version 12, June 2003 2 Hardware Requirement 2.1 Required Network Card 2.1.1 The LonWorks protocol interface requires a Data Aire LonTalk communication network card to be installed into the DAP III panel. The LontalK card part number is 160-400-384. See Figure 1 and 2 for card details. BOARD CONNECTOR Figure 1: Front side of the Data Aire LonTalk Communication Network card Tx and Rx LEDs SERVICE BUTTON Figure 2: Back side of the Data Aire LonTalk Communication Network card Document 600-000-685 Page 4 of 14

2.2 LonTalk Network Card Installation IMPORTANT NOTE: The DAP III panel supports one network connection at a time therefore only one type of the network card can be installed. 2.2.1 For LonWorks interface, plug a LonTalk communication network card to the Communication Header J1 of the DAP III Display board. See Figure 3 below for the DAP III Display board with a LonTalk card installed. Before installing the network card, go to Menu 6-1 Unit & Network ID in Group Menu 6 Network to set the unit network ID number. Go to Menu 6-2 Network Protocol to configure to LonWorks. Menu 6-2 is locked menu; refer to the DAP III Operation Manual for the procedure of how to unlock this menu. Turn power OFF, plug the LonTalk card to the communication port J1 on the Display module of the DAP III panel. Turn the DAP III panel back ON; if the DAP III panel recognizes the Lontalk card it will display the card name during the self-test. It is recommended to reset the DAP III panel after changing network protocol or unit ID number. Tx and Rx LED Lon+ Lon_ Communication Header J1 LonTalk Communication card LonWorks TP/FT-10 Network Wiring Connections Figure 3: DAP III Display Board with a LonTalk Network Card 2.3 Network Wiring 2.3.1 Data Aire LonTalk Network card complies with Lonworks TP/FT-10 network connections. The 18 AWG or 22 AWG shielded, twisted pair cable is recommended. The network wiring should be wired in the multidrop fashion. See Figure 3 above for the DAP III Lonworks network wiring terminations.
