Introduction «Maximov» gas washers (or scrubbers) are intended to clean the air contaminated with acid and alkali fumes, usually at electroplating industries, laboratories and in technological processes. «Maximov» gas washers including all its inner parts (nozzle, sprayers, pipelines, pump, valve, level sensor, рн-indicator) are manufactured from polypropylene (PP). On your request we can produce scrubbers from other polymers PP and its modifications: PVC (polyvinylchloride), PE (polyethylene), PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride). Scrubbers can be of two types: horizontal and vertical. Horizontal scrubbers «GM» are more compact and enable cleaning at high speeds of air-gas flow. The capability of scrubber series is 800 68800 m3/h. The scrubber s resistance depends on model and can reach 300 800 Pa; scrubbers are intended for gas temperature 5 65 grades. The temperature of installation site: +5 +40 C indoors (modification for outdoor use by -30 +30 C is possible on special request). The efficiency of gas washers is 99 % for particles min. 15 micron. Depending on air-gas flow and operating side there are possible length and right types of body location. For aerodynamic reasons a straight pipe must be planned with a length of at least 3 times of the pipe diameter for the air inlet. Also it is recommended to plan at the outlet side a straight pipe of at least up to 1 meter. The necessary parameters for selection: 1. The capability, m³/h; 2. The gas temperature, grades; 3. The content of air-gas medium (the chemical formula, e.g. HCl, H2SO4, NAOH...); 4. The concentration of vapours before the scrubber entrance, mg/m³; 5. The necessary affectivity or the concentration at the outlet side (mg/m³). 1. Horizontal gas washers «Maximov» 1.1 Gas washer «Maximov», type «GM-2» The simplest type of wet horizontal gas washer «GМ-2» has spray chamber and multistage polymeric demister system and is referred to hollow scrubber. It is intended for weak concentrations with the gas temperature max. 40 C. Not applicable for mixtures of acids. Principle of operation: Horizontal scrubber, type «GМ-2» works on binding principle of airborne and dust particles with scrubbing liquid. The airflow is irrigated continuously with water (solution) by double sprayers. They spray the liquid in two directions: against airflow and along airflow. 3

The process of catching is available in wet scrubbers due to condensing effect enlargement of vapours and particles due to the condensation of water vapours on them. After the air flow with contaminants combined by scrubbing liquid transfers in demisters where the scrubbing liquid is segregated from gas-air mixture. Due to bends of demister s profile the drops are settled on the surface and after they flow down in drain chamber from which the scrubbing liquids goes to the buffer vessel through the hydraulic seal. The hydraulic seal enables the discharged operation of scrubber. After that the liquid is transferred by means of pump for cleaning. The gas washer can be equipped with coagulator optional. The coagulator is integrated between demister s elements accordingly that the smallest particles can enlarge and segregate on demisters. Attention! On customer s request we can complete this type of gas washer with fibrous filter cassette. It provides more quality cleaning from the most hard-separable small aerosol particles. 4

Additional configuration of gas washer «Maximov GM-2» Described in this catalogue gas washer GM-2 can be equipped optional with the fibrous filter cassette FVG-PP-UA. The fibrous filters FVG-PP-UA fall in between wet scrubbing and filter devices. The fibrous filters based on principle of gravity sedimentation are widely used to clean dust-gas-air emissions in many spheres and as a drop catcher or mist extractor. The fibrous filters from PP is intended for air washing from the most hard-separable small aerosol particles, mist of acids, resinous and oily aerosols with particle loading at least 10 micron. Also the fibrous filters are used to filtrate mists of solutions within the chemical reactions by different work activities. The distinction of fibrous filters is their high performance and compactness. The fibrous filter is a cassette with filtering material placed inside the casing of gas washer «Maximov». The filtering material is located in the form of vertical folds in the cassette. The filtering material is a polymeric fabric on basis of polypropylene. The material has purity class G-4 according to EN 779. The filter operates in a mode of accumulation of caught particles on the filtering material s surface with partial draining. 6

1.2 Gas washer «Maximov», type «GM-4» Double-stage wet horizontal gas washer «GМ-4» has packed packed chamber and multi-stage polymeric demister system. It is intended for many acids, alkalis and their mixtures. Principle of operation: Scrubber «GМ-4» works on binding principle of airborne, vapours and dust particles with scrubbing liquid. The airflow gets through the packed chamber that is irrigated continuously with water (solution) by sprayers. They spray the liquid in two directions: against airflow and along airflow. 1.3 Gas washer «Maximov», type «GM-5» This type of scrubbers is used for washing of contaminated air at low speed of connection with scrubbing liquid. First of all it is intended for air cleaning from phosphorus vapours or mixed acid gases. Principle of operation: The gas washer «GМ-5» has larger packed chamber than«gm-4». Scrubber «GМ-5» works on binding principle of airborne, vapours and dust particles with water (solution). The airflow gets through the packed chamber that is irrigated continuously with water (solution) by sprayers. Due to the big size of nozzle in the packed chamber the contact area of liquid with gas-air mixture increases and it improves the efficiency of cleaning. The process of catching is available in wet scrubbers due to condensing effect enlargement of vapours and particles due to the condensation of water vapours on them. 11

2. Vertical gas washers «Maximov» The wet vertical gas washer, type «VМ» is intended for air cleaning from many acids, alkalis and their mixtures including impurity gases. Principle of operation: Gas washer «VM» has big nozzle layer that enables to use this gas washer as an absorber. The airflow gets from the bottom upwards through the nozzle layer that is irrigated continuously with water (solution) by sprayers. Due to the big size of nozzle the contact area of liquid with gas-air mixture increases and it improves the efficiency of cleaning. After the air flow transfers in demisters where the scrubbing liquid is segregated from gas-air mixture. Due to bends of demister s profile the drops are settled on the surface and after they flow down in drain layer. The scrubbing liquid goes through the nozzle layer and then it transfers to the buffer vessel through the hydraulic seal. The hydraulic seal enables the discharged operation of scrubber. After that the liquid is transferred by means of pump for cleaning. The gas washer can be equipped with coagulator optional. Vertical scrubbers are divided into three types according to the flow rate: VM-05 scrubber with flow rate 0.5 m/s, resistance until 550 Pa; VM-1 scrubber with flow rate 1.0 m/s, resistance until 600 Pa; VM-2 scrubber with flow rate 2.0 m/s, resistance until 650 Pa. 2.2 Venturi scrubber The company UralActiv Ltd. manufactures Venturi scrubber from thermoplastic materials. Polypropylene and polyethylene are main polymeric materials that are used in production. The advantages of these materials in comparison with steel are high resistance to abrasion and corrosion cracking that provides long service life of equipment. Venturi scrubber is a device for effective particulate control of air passing through this device. This is a system for cleaning of ventilated gas from impurities, for returning of gas into the atmosphere or into the next production. One can used the usual process water as an absorbing agent. This water doesn t need preliminary preparation and therefore it cheapens the working of gas treatment system maximally. Area of application Venturi is a scrubber suitable for any production with emissions of contaminated air such as: coke and by-product process; refinery operations; stone-working process; chemical production; metallurgical production etc. Operation principle of Venturi scrubber: The capture principle bases on settling of dust particles on the drops of irrigating water in the Venturi pipe and their next separation in the scrubber. Dusty gases that get into the Venturi pipe are irrigated with water and are accelerated to the speed 40-150 m/s in a confuser. Drops of irrigating water are disintegrated with rapid gas stream and are accelerated in the throat of Venturi pipe. Because the water density is three times greater than the gas density, water drops have lower speed and as a result the filtration of dusty gas stream goes through moving water fine-filter. In this filter the gravity sedimentation of dust particles from the gas is happen on granular drops. Drops with sedimented dust particles are caught in the scrubber due to the centrifugal force, are settled and are removed through the hydraulic lock from the device in form of slurry. 18

Proposed device for gas cleaning has high possibility of capture. The present Venturi scrubber is designed to clean from: soot and dusty particulate matters; resinous compounds and chlorinates; hydrogen sulphide and ammoniac vapors; dioxides and acids. 19

3. Fibrous filters FVG-PP-UA UralActiv Ltd. produces fibrous galvanic filters FVG-PP- UA which are similar to filters FVG-T and FVG-M. The filters FVG-PP-UA are intended to air ventilation emissions from the most hard-separable small aerosol particles, mists of acids, resinous and oily aerosols with particle loading at least 10 micron. Also the fibrous filters are used to filtrate mists of solutions within the chemical reactions by different work activities. The fibrous galvanic filters are widely used for air washing in systems of ventilation, supply ventilation, airconditioning and in other special equipment. The fibrous filters FVG-PP-UA fall in between wet scrubbing and filter devices. The casing of filter is made from chemical-resistant material polypropylene. The cassette with filtering material out on the frame is placed inside the casing. To check the filter condition there are inspection holes on the casing and visual level indicator. The filtering material is a polymeric fabric on basis of polypropylene. The material has purity class G-4 according to EN 779. The filter operates in a mode of accumulation of caught particles on the filtering material s surface with partial draining. If the pressure drop is 500 Pa (50 mm w.g.), the galvanic filter is exposed to periodic cleaning (one in 15-30 days). The cassette is easy to remove from the filter FVG-PP-UA. The advantage of cassette is its prefabricated structure which enables to change only filtering material and not the whole cassette. There are five types of filters with capability from 2500 till 80000 m3/h. Every type has three modifications: 01 without hydraulic lock, with two-side access 02 with hydraulic lock, with two-side access 03 with hydraulic lock and irrigation, right-hand and left-hand with two-side access. 20
