Long Lane is a country road leading from Newbury to the desirable villages of Hermitage and Cold Ash and is flanked on both sides by productive arable farmland and open countryside. The views from Oaklea are exceptional, it being the last property before the countryside begins in earnest. The easy access to junction 13 of the M4 at nearby Chieveley makes a trip to London, Bristol, Oxford or Southampton so much more convenient and there is also a railway station at Newbury which is on the direct line to Paddington (55 mins). Set on the banks of the Kennet & Avon Canal, Newbury offers markets on Thursdays and Saturdays and there are regular events at Newbury Racecourse. This area is well renowned for its exceptional educational facilities with superb schools nearby at primary and secondary level. The countryside surrounding Newbury is largely an area of outstanding natural beauty and the view from the garden leaves visitors under no doubt as to why. There are numerous golf courses and sports clubs within a short distance of Newbury and a variety of other sport and recreational facilities available. For culture there is the famous Watermill Theatre, Newbury Corn Exchange and Highclere Castle to name just a few. The immaculate accommodation, spread cleverly over two floors and making the most of the fabulous rural views, comprises a large and welcoming reception hall, modern cloakroom with WC, a generous and bright fitted kitchen/breakfast room, double aspect drawing room, dining room, family room and study. Further accommodation on the ground floor which comprises a guest double bedroom and lovely en-suite as well as a small sitting room/bedroom 5, lends itself very well to the formation of an annexe. On the first floor the master bedroom with fabulous cathedral style window offers a delightful view over the arable fields and open countryside to the west and shares a Jack and Jill bathroom with the neighbouring bedroom. An additional, delightful double bedroom with en-suite facilities overlooks the rear garden. The house is full of natural light with large windows and open aspects with a show-home presentation!
The lounge is flooded with natural light and the double French doors open out to the garden. It is a room that invites comfortable relaxation and modern in design, has enormous character and appeal. You can also see through to the garden from the chic dining room, and there is an equally delightful aspect from the study. This sense of the garden and house as one is a continuous theme with the property
Seller Insight We fell in love with Oaklea the moment we set foot in the property says Karen who moved here with husband Jason in 2005 Oaklea is a delightful family home, beautifully located in the rolling Berkshire countryside. When Jason and Karen were locating from Chiswick, to enjoy a more rural location and be close to family, they started their search on line. They found Oaklea and when they viewed the property, immediately realised that this charming house had something special to offer and was ideal for them. We have made quite a few changes and improvements but the position was just perfect, not only for convenience but for the fabulous views which change with the seasons This immaculate and particularly spacious home is surrounded by fields, creating a delightful rural atmosphere. They are conveniently close to Newbury which offers exceptional schools, comprehensive shopping and a choice of sporting and leisure activities. For Jason, who works in London, the railway station at Newbury with its fast service to Paddington, and the convenient access onto the M4 junction 13 at Chieveley, makes this location even more appealing. Originally a bungalow, Oaklea has been intelligently extended with some stunning design features. The attractive and inviting façade, and the large peaked, picture window to the front aspect have a definite wow factor. As you enter the house you sense its light, warm and welcoming ambience. Karen says it is difficult to choose one favourite room as they gain pleasure from each area in the house. The large, superbly equipped and streamlined kitchen is ideal for the keen cook, but is also a great social centre, where friends can gather at the breakfast bar for coffee and conversation. The windows frame pretty garden views, and the patio creates the perfect summer al fresco dining room. The large triangular window in the master bedroom is a remarkable piece of architecture and sets off the house beautifully explains Karen and it offers an amazing view across the landscape Karen has her studio in the attractive wooden building here, and she says that everyone who visits exclaims at the beauty of the situation. It is a most delightful place to have an office or studio. Both Jason and Karen are very sad to leave the house, but are relocating. They will miss the garden and the way the house nestles so gently into this landscape. It has given them much joy and they take away many very happy memories.*
With five bedrooms, five toilets and three en-suites, the house is particularly versatile and with one of the bedrooms and en suite on the ground floor it would be easy to create an annexe.
The garden is the perfect complement to the house. The secluded ground level is perfect for relaxing over morning coffee and lunch, whilst the delightful area above has the loveliest views across the fields and it is sheer pleasure to sit with a glass of wine in the evening sun continues Karen
Outside The house enjoys a generous frontage with a large parking area with space for multiple vehicles. The brand new oil tank sits unobtrusively in the corner. The hedgerow on the front boundary provides privacy and a heightened air of exclusivity. There is secure access via the side of the property to the rear garden. The attractively landscaped terraced rear garden rises to a terrace which offers the most breath-taking views of the farmland to the west and north and with far-reaching views of the countryside beyond. The garden is mainly laid to lawn with laurel and privet hedgerow on the boundaries. The Studio 18 x 14 10. An ideal home office or fitness studio with magnificent views across the valley. There is a vaulted ceiling offering additional storage.
