2011 Medals ILEX Graduation Ceremony, Bedford Corn Exchange ILEX Presidential Luncheon, The Landmark Hotel, London. I am delighted to announce that entries are now open for the Institute of Legal Executives Medals 2011. This year we again have four categories, including a medal to show our gratitude for the support and encouragement our members receive from their employers. All these medals are designed to celebrate excellence, outstanding achievement and dedication to the profession that is central to our members. The medals will highlight best practice, personal dedication and contribution to the Institute and the profession. The winners rightly gain from recognition by their peers, with the presentation ceremony held at our Graduation Ceremony on 23 April 2012 and the Pro Bono Medal at the prestigious ILEX Presidential Luncheon on 31 May at the Landmark Hotel, London. But what is just as important is the fact that we can all gain by learning from the achievements of these innovators, no matter what branch of the profession we work in. ILEX Medal Categories ILEX Student of the Year ILEX Employer of the Year ILEX Pro Bono Medal ILEX President s Medal Rules of Entry There is no fee to enter. Individuals may nominate themselves, but entries must be endorsed by the nominee s employer. Self-employed Fellows are eligible to enter provided that their nomination is made by a professional colleague. Employees of the sponsors, ILEX, ITC, IPS, or members of their Boards or Councils are not eligible to enter. All entries must be no more than 750 words. All members who are nominated must be registered, fully paid up members of ILEX. Nominations for the Pro Bono Medal: Members can nominate themselves for the award, but the name and address of an independent reference must be provided. The reference must be in a position to comment on the nominee's voluntary work. In the case of the ILEX Employer of the Year medal, the nominator must be a registered, fully paid up member of ILEX. For the nominee, please put forward the name and contact details of a representative of the employer who will collect the medal at the ceremony. For example, this could be a partner, Training Manager/HR representative, head of department or the member s boss. All entries will be treated as confidential. The judge s decision is binding and final. No correspondence will be entered into. No alternative for prizes will be given. The deadline for receipt of entries is 9am on Thursday 5 April 2012. Late entries will not be accepted. The Medals will be presented at the ILEX Graduation Ceremony, to be held on 23 April 2012 at the Bedford Corn Exchange, except for the ILEX Pro Bono Medal, which will be presented at the ILEX Presidential Luncheon on 31 May at the Landmark Hotel, London. Winners will be given prior notification. Reasonable UK travel costs for each winner and their nominator to attend the presentation will be paid by ILEX. Results will be published in The Legal Executive Journal and on the ILEX website. Press releases and photographs will be issued to the media on the winning entries. ILEX Student of the Year 2011 ILEX has seen many outstanding students who have gone on to enjoy glittering careers in the legal profession. This medal aims to recognise students with outstanding ability. There is no application form and no need to enter: every student who has completed their ILEX Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law/Law and Practice subjects in 2011, and who has also submitted their ILEX Membership application during 2011, will be eligible. The winner will be the student who has achieved the highest average score in their ILEX Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law/Law and Practice subjects. ILEX will be pleased to receive nominations for individuals who are believed to meet the criteria. Nominations should be made in writing (no more than 750 words). On a pro bono basis we especially advise on housing and other benefits and assist where necessary. ILEX Pro Bono Medal 2011 The ILEX Pro Bono Medal recognises the dedication of ILEX members who offer their expertise on a Pro Bono basis. The medal will be presented to an outstanding practising individual who, in addition to their daily work, has given their timeto charities without charge; to Pro Bono legal help groups, voluntary organisations or the underprivileged; or who has undertaken difficult or socially or morally important cases without charge. Judges will be looking for nominations for an individual who is committed to, and can demonstrate, excellent Pro Bono work. The winner will receive a commemorative trophy, certificate and a cheque for 750 to be donated to a charity of the winner s choice, courtesy of sponsor The Peverel Group.
