What is Air-Cooled Fan Fluid Cooler? Why Fluid Cooling is required? A Heat Exchanger is specialized Equipment in which Two Fluids (Hot and Cold) are brought into indirect contact with each other to affect the Transfer of Heat. Fan Fluid Cooler is a Air-Cooled Heat Exchanger that operate on the principle of removing Heat of Fluid flowing in closed-loop Coil and by drawing Fresh Ambient Air over Coil Surface, thus Cooling the Hot Fluid. Since Ambient Air Movement is via Axial Propeller Fan and Cooling Mode is totally Dry, these types of Equipments are popularly known as Fan Fluid Coolers or Fin Fan Coolers or even Dry Cooling Towers. The major Advantages of Fan Fluid Coolers over conventional Evaporative Cooling Towers are No-loss of Cooling Fluid being Closed-loop; vide variety of Fluids including Water, better Control of Cooling, Power & Water Saving, and importantly Maintenance-free Performance being Dry Operation. The biggest Dis-advantage of Fan Fluid Cooler remains that Fluid Temp can t be bring down below Ambient Air Temp in Dry Mode, unlike in Evaporative Cooling Tower which delivers Water Temp below Ambient Air Temp (nearby its Wet-Bulb Temp). When Fluid Outlet Temp is required below Ambient Air Temp, Adiabatic Fan Fluid Coolers are proposed, wherein incoming Ambient Air is cooled by Adiabatic Mode of Air-Cooling (via Water Spraying or Fogging). When Adiabatically Cooled Ambient Air cools the Fluid, the Fluid Temp comes down with approach to Wet-Bulb Temp of Ambient Air. Hybrid Fan Fluid Coolers or Hybrid Cooling Towers is a Fluid Cooler which uses Dry as well as Adiabatic Mode for Fluid Cooling, thus delivering Constant Temp Cooled Fluid and ensuring optimized consumption of Fan Power and Spray Water. Hybrid Fan Fluid Coolers is considered to be replacement of Evaporative Cooling Towers and bears all Advantages of Dry Coolers.

Fluid (including Water) Cooling is needed for AC & R Plants, Inter-coolers and After-coolers, Engine Jackets, Smelters and Furnaces, Acid Vessels, Production Processes involving Thermic Fluids, Oil Cooling, Condenser Cooling in Power Plants and many more. When Fluid is some Gas or Vapor and is to be condensed (phase change of Fluid), these Fan Coolers are termed as Air-cooled Condensers: and are commonly seen in AC & R Equipments. In Ammonia based Refrigeration Plants, Aircooled Condensers are supplemented with Evaporative Cooling by Water Spraying hence those are termed as Ammonia Evaporative Condensers. In Power Plants when Steam is to be condensed (as Water) by Air-cooled Coolers, those are termed as Air-cooled Steam Condensers. Based on Construction, Shape and Air Draft Mechanism, Fan Fluid Coolers are catagorised into Forced Draft (for High Temp Fluids, also termed as Air Blast Cooler) and Induced Draft (for Low Temp Fluids and Adiabatic Mode). Further, classification is as Vertical or Flat-Bed, Finned Coils or Finned Tubes and Modular or Site-Erected.
