DEC 2017 to FEB 2018 LIGHTS ILLUMINATING THE WINTER NIGHT The inaugural Winter Lights Festival was a giant success with over 6300+ attendees experiencing the illumination in December alone. It is clear that the residents of Lethbridge and Southern Alberta enjoy and support this festival. We are now looking to grow this stunning event even further next year. Be a part of this magical experience. Nikka Yuko is asking for funding and in-kind assistance so that the garden is able to enhance the experience with programs and exhibits, and truly bring the Winter Lights Festival to life. MY WIFE, DAUGHTER AND I WENT ONE EVENING, IT WAS AMAZING. WE WALKED THROUGH THE GARDEN. THE LIGHTS WERE BRIGHT AND LAID OUT NICELY. REALLY ENJOYED IT. An Authentic Japanese Light Festival Experience Available in Southern Alberta. The inaugural Winter Lights Festival at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden was the premier winter event of 2016 for Lethbridge and Southern Alberta. This was the first time that the public was able to regularly access the renowned Japanese garden during the winter season & the garden was decorated with over 98,000 LED lights (taking over 600 man hours). The garden s signature Russian Olive became the ideal place to take Christmas photos with family and loved ones, and the garden even hosted wedding photos and an engagement proposal. Guests were comfortable walking the garden paths, which were fully accessible to wheelchairs, and maintained by the City of Lethbridge. Guests stayed warm with hot chocolate and coffee as well as hot seasonal treats such as fried beaver tails from the ENMAX Concession. Added comforts included outdoor heating stations, which were greatly enjoyed by everyone on the colder nights. The garden was also fortunate enough to offer horse drawn sleigh rides around part of Henderson Lake on select nights. Other activities included mochi tasting from the Nikkei Cultural Society, a winter Pokémon GO event and Joya no Kane bell ringing for the garden s New Year s celebration. The Winter Lights Festival truly captured the magic of the winter season, from the official opening of the festival on December 2nd to the Setsubun and Japanese Craft Beer tasting on February 2nd, which marked the end of the inaugural festival. It is clear that the residents of Lethbridge and Southern Alberta support and deeply enjoy The Winter Lights Festival, and want to see the festival develop and grow. This is evident from the attendance numbers which show that 6300+ people entered the garden during the month of December, with strong numbers following in the month of January. Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden is confident that the inaugural year was only the tip of the iceberg for the festival and that with more lights, programming and entertainment the festival can and will become a major winter attraction in Western Canada. For 2017 the garden plans to cross the 100,000 light thresholds (by a significant margin!), provide a choreographed multimedia light demonstration, ice skating, and a more in depth exhibit on Japanese cultural traditions. Nikka Yuko has big dreams but we need financial and in-kind support from businesses and individuals who want to bring joy and happiness to Lethbridge and Southern Alberta during the winter season.
Nikka Yuko has prepared a comprehensive package to recognize our festival sponsors, through social media posts, complementary passes, banner placement, product placement and private events. There are various sponsorship levels detailed later in the package to fit your budget and meet your needs. Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden and The Winter Lights Festival are committed to establishing lasting and enduring partnerships with our sponsors and patrons. Please consider the following to be a starting place to work from. If there are specific needs required from the garden please let us know because we are willing to work with you or your businesses to reach a shared vision. Become a sponsor of the Winter Lights Festival The primary sponsorship campaign for the Winter Lights Festival is Light up the Garden. Individuals and businesses are invited to symbolically support the lights for different features of the garden. This allows you to sponsor your favorite part of the garden. From one of the signature structures, such as the Friendship Bell, to the superb horticultural pieces including the garden s featured Russian Olive and Mugo Pine, this campaign has a sponsorship item that will meet your budget and reach your desired level of recognition & exposure. In addition, each sponsor piece comes with a suite of benefits, such as courtesy passes, which are great for giving out to clients, staff, family or friends. Please see our sponsorship table for complete details. Title Sponsor In 2016 Nikka Yuko was fortunate to receive a Community Initiative Program grant through Alberta Culture and Tourism (Title sponsor for inaugural festival). The Garden will not be eligible for this grant for the next five years and so the Garden is seeking a new Title Sponsor for the 2017 festival. The Title Sponsor is the most prestigious sponsorship level that the Garden is offering for the festival and as such the Title Sponsor will receive top billing on all promotional material related to the festival. The Title Sponsor will receive sweeping benefits to The Winter Lights Festival including 200 courtesy passes, speaking rights at the opening ceremony and tickets to special events happening during the festival. Nikka Yuko is also happy to host a private function at the Garden for the Title Sponsor and all of their guests (private function to be held on a night when the festival is not running).
