OOKTOP STY Your safety and the safety of others are very important. We have provided many important safety messages in this manual and on your appliance. lways read and obey all safety messages. This is the safety alert symbol. This symbol alerts you to potential hazards that can kill or hurt you and others. ll safety messages will follow the safety alert symbol and either the word NR or WRNN. These words mean: NR You can be killed or seriously injured if you don't immediately follow instructions. WRNN You can be killed or seriously injured if you don't follow instructions. ll safety messages will tell you what the potential hazard is, tell you how to reduce the chance of injury, and tell you what can happen if the instructions are not followed. 2

utout imensions or est Performance: Use 26-gauge minimum galvanized or 25-gauge minimum aluminum metal vent. Poor quality pipe fittings can reduce airflow. lexible metal vent is not recommended. NOT: Local codes may require a heavier gauge material. Metal duct may be reduced to 30-gauge galvanized steel or 26-gauge aluminized steel if allowed by local codes. This reduction is based on information in the nternational Residential odes Section M1601.1 (2006 edition). o not install 2 elbows together. Use no more than three 90 elbows. Vent system must terminate to the outside. Use only a 6" (15.2 cm) diameter round or 3¼" x 10" (8.3 x 25.4 cm) rectangular vent except as follows: or electric cooktops, a 5" (12.7 cm) diameter round vent may be used for venting straight out the back of the cooktop and directly through the wall for 10 ft (3.0 m) or less. efore making cutouts, make sure there is proper clearance within the wall or floor for the exhaust vent. o not cut a joist or stud unless absolutely necessary. f a joist or stud must be cut, then a supporting frame must be constructed. The size of the vent should be uniform. f an elbow is used, install it as far away as possible from the hood s vent motor exhaust opening. Make sure there is a minimum of 18" (45.7 cm) of straight vent between the elbows if more than one elbow is used. lbows too close together can cause excess turbulence that reduces airflow. o not use a 5" (12.7 cm) elbow in a 6" (15.2 cm) or 3¹ ₄" x 10" (8.3 x 25.4 cm) system. o not reduce to a 5" (12.7 cm) system after using 6" (15.2 cm) or 3¹ ₄" x 10" (8.3 x 25.4 cm) fittings. void forming handmade crimps. andmade crimps may restrict airflow. Use a vent cap for proper performance. f an alternate wall or roof cap is used, be certain the cap size is not reduced and that it has a back draft damper. Use vent clamps to seal all joints in the vent system. Use caulking to seal exterior wall or roof opening around the cap. The length of vent system and number of elbows should be kept to a minimum to provide efficient performance. The maximum equivalent length of the vent system is 60 ft (18.3 m). or altitudes above 4,500 ft (1272 m), reduce recommended vent run by 20% for best performance. old Weather nstallations n additional back draft damper should be installed to minimize backward cold air flow and a thermal break installed to minimize conduction of outside temperatures as part of the vent system. The damper should be on the cold air side of the thermal break. Makeup ir Local building codes may require the use of makeup air systems when using ventilation systems greater than specified M of air movement. The specified M varies from locale to locale. onsult your V professional for specific requirements in your area. The vent system must have a damper. f roof or wall cap has a damper, do not use damper supplied with the range hood. Use vent clamps to seal all joints in the vent system. Use caulking to seal exterior wall or roof opening around the cap. etermine which venting method is best for your application. 5
