PRESS RELEASE Date: 26 March 2018 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE INNOVATIVE DESIGNS IMPRESS CROWDS AT DECOREX DURBAN 21 600 visitors to the 2018 Decorex Durban were exposed to some of the year s best #rhythmoflife trends dominating the décor, design and lifestyle industry. The exhibition boasted an incredible line-up of high-end stands and introduced a full programme of new design features that were all warmly received by the Durban audience. Decorex Durban always gets the exhibition season off on a really positive note, said Sian Cullingworth, Portfolio Director at Decorex SA. There s something about the incredible climate and natural beauty of this area that seems to channel an unstoppable creative energy in the people living and working here, and that was truly evident in the quality of designs witnessed at the show. The range of exhibits and level of work would, no doubt, have inspired everyone who came through the doors and I m really excited to be taking this creative momentum onto our Cape Town exhibition. Interior Design This year Decorex Durban featured a design-centric line-up which boasted 17 of the country s top interior and landscape designers across the range of new and popular installations, with Phillippa Courtenay of Re-Inspire setting the tone with a soul-replenishing Decorex Entrance. This passion was matched by Paige Waplington and her team from Redesign Interiors on the entrancing Decorex Designer Spotlight feature. As CEO of the African Institute of Interior Design, Waplington brought an experienced level of insight with her team incorporating bespoke furniture pieces and layers of colour into the room space. Another new feature which attracted worthy attention was the gorgeous Rooms to Grow, where designers taking the audience on a step-by-step journey of the growing years. Chelle Mae s Baby
Lab showcased its home-made furnishings in the imaginative Nursery; Clever Little Monkey featured natural elements in the enviable Toddler Room; Duett Kids Furniture reflected the style and mood of the unique Tween Room and Pushé Concept Line brought some incredible bold statement prints into Teen Room design. It was a stimulation for the senses as audiences were immersed in texture, colour, light and style at the new features Design and Textile Elements, Natural Elements sponsored by Neolith and Lighting Elements brought to you by Light+Living. Seven trailblazing designers - Harvey s Trading Co., Kipekee Studio, Urban Create Design Interiors, Rainey Sykes, Katie Allen Décor & Design, Designs by Day Interiors and Afro Luxury Designs expressed the effect various décor elements can have on a #rhythmoflife space. Industry experts and headline sponsor, Plascon, established the effect of colour on the mood, spatial perception and overall style with its newly-launched Decorex feature. The knowledgeable Plascon team was on hand to offer new takes on colour trends while advising visitors on the best colour contrasts and complements for different room styles.

Colour continued to connect in the undeniably popular new She Sheds feature where notable designers channelled the bygone Man Cave trend into a feminine home space for their chosen celebrity. Four basic sheds were beautifully transformed into She Sheds a haven for the woman with each designer bringing in a touch of pink into the creation. Jennifer Jones Interiors partnered with radio presenter, Vukile Mckenzie; Eykon Designs teamed up with actress, Jailoshini Naidoo; Dreamery found the perfect partner in actress, Mariam Bassa; while MSQ Interior Design worked with actress, Kajal Bagwandeen. Giving the audience a holistic sense of the modern design trends was the @home Trend Home presented by Decorex. Curated by Creative Director of Decorex, Anita Bloom, the installation displayed choice pieces of designer furniture from @home homeware store and @homelivingspace. Bloom worked with leading suppliers on the design, including Sugar Plum Interiors for the bathroom; Hertex Fabrics in the patio roof design; Stone Library in the kitchen; taps and basins by Franke SA; and Pitt Cooking featuring stylish gas burners. @home Trend Home presented by Decorex. And giving exhibition-goers a sneak insight into the tastes and interests of the Decorex team behind the scenes was the #withlovefromdecorex feature. Filled with heart, this feature showcased 18 furniture and décor pieces carefully selected from the @home collection, with each piece representing a personality behind the Decorex name. Landscaping #withlovefromdecorex Décor extends outdoors in the Landscaping Feature where Spade Design playfully infused urban modernism into a primal jungle trend for this contemporary garden installation. And modern elements continued into the EGO Garden of the Future, brought to you by Smith Power Equipment, an innovative feature which provide the ideal platform to launch EGO s range of environmentally-friendly landscaping equipment.

In the kitchen There was no end to the range of delectable offerings available at this year s Decorex Durban with the vibrant two-day Pop Up Market brought to life by The Creativity Lab, connecting tasty local cuisine with a range of artisanal crafts. Durban s top restauranteurs continued to feature at the Roast Co. with The Rhythm Eatery, styled by The Creativity Lab, once again offering visitors a variety of gourmet meals in a beautifully curated dining space. Spilling into the current craft gin trend, professional mixologists created enticing cocktails at The Secret Gin Bar while those with a palate for red and white vintages were able to sample some of the best local and international bouquets at The Tasting Room Wine Bar. The tasting experience was enhanced by the crafted space complete with custom-made wood and steel furniture by Yard Seventeen, gorgeous fabrics from Caversham Textiles and ambiance provided by DJ Lau Lau.

The Coffee Cup by Illy Caffé had a special surprise in store when three of the Cell C Sharks players stopped by for a chat and photographs with visitors. A few fortunate visitors also walked away with lucky draw prizes including a new domestic coffee machine and 10 Cell C Sharks sponsored stand tickets for the Cell C Sharks vs. Vodacom Bulls on Saturday, 14 April at JONSSON KINGS PARK. Expert Kitchens and Interiors put together an incredible kitchen installation for the popular Gourmet Cooking Theatre which saw a full programme of drink and food experts demonstrating their various crafts using the latest kitchen appliances. Representatives from We are Food, Granny Mouse Country House & Spa, The Shed and Delish Sisters kept audiences entranced with their on-trend nourishing displays.

And kitchen style was taken to another level in the Franke Kitchen Trends Project which saw four leading kitchen designers - Crestwood Kitchens, Expert Kitchens and Interiors, Bespoke Designs and Kitchen Spectrum - bringing An Expression of Colour and Franke s latest range to this captivating feature. After careful consideration by the judges, two winners were selected, Crestwood Kitchens and Expert Kitchens & Interiors, as the winning designs for the dynamic incorporation of the latest trends.
