THE FUTURE OF HERITAGE Blendworth have worked alongside Wedgwood to create a collection of fabrics and wallcoverings inspired by the brand s impressive design archive. The resulting collection celebrates the Wedgwood brand yet has the Blendworth aesthetic and execution at its core. Wedgwood is a global home and luxury lifestyle brand whose 250 year heritage is characterised by its commitment to producing iconic collections for the home. The company dates back to 1759 when Josiah Wedgwood, aged just 29, founded his now famous pottery in the Ivy House works in Burslem, Staffordshire. The English potter soon began to experiment and throughout his illustrious career developed many innovative materials and techniques. As a creative, energetic, and astute business man, Josiah quickly became Britain s most inspired and successful ceramics pioneer and is remembered today as the Father of English Potters. Today, Wedgwood remains true to Josiah s legacy of innovation and craftsmanship. Combining an unrivalled heritage with the best of modern design, the brand has evolved to create a relevant and contemporary aesthetic which inspires Expressive Living. Wedgwood is the proud holder of the Royal Warrant by Appointment for tableware and giftware to Her Majesty the Queen. Volume I is the first collection of Wedgwood Home Fabrics and Wallcoverings created by the Blendworth studio. The bold, contemporary designs are directly inspired by Wedgwood s archive and available in a range of printed, woven and hand-embroidered fabrics, complemented by a range of wallcoverings created using a classic surface print technique. PASHMINA Inspired by chintz textile patterns originally produced in India during the colonial era, the Pashmina pattern is bold and broad in its appeal. The design, now over 150 years old, features Jacobean style flowers and foliage trails, originally enamelled on crisp white bone china. Keeping with the Indian inspired theme, Pashmina has been adapted into a beautiful cotton-linen print, with textured accents hand-embroidered in India. Available in three colourways, Pashmina brings a sense of playfulness and energy into the home. FABLED CRANE Fabled Crane takes its feature motif from the 19th century tea set of the same name. Based on designs first created for Wedgwood s Artisan Collection, the crane was inspired by an exotic pheasant pattern from c.1820 when the fashion for the Orient was at its height. The design was later known as Kutani Crane. Blendworth s studio have reimagined the design using the birds curved form to shape a classic ogee composition, and taking foliage from the original ceramic pattern to create subtle chinoiserie-scroll detailing. Fabled Crane is available as a dual-purpose printed cotton fabric and a surface printed wallcovering. A second wallcovering, Fabled Floral, also draws inspiration from the original pattern and uses a feature peony motif to create a delicate floral repeat. TONQUIN Originally produced on black Jasperware using an encaustic painting technique that required the utmost skill to achieve, the Tonquin design is typically bold and flamboyant, reflecting natural themes that were popular in the early 19th century. In the 20th century the pattern was reinterpreted by the designer and art director Victor Skellern for use on fine bone china. Taking the distinctive flower heads and decorative foliage from the Tonquin pattern, Blendworth have created an all-over floral design printed on a cotton-linen fabric as well as developing a sumptuous velvet in the same design. A classic damask composition, also adapted from the Tonquin design has become a sophisticated dual-purpose weave and effortlessly stylish wallcovering. CURTAIN: Tonquin Print Col. 3
TONQUIN VELVET A sumptuous natural cotton velvet printed in two contemporary colour stories: teal with grey, and a rich indigo with mossy green detailing. The design is flatbed printed enabling the colour to penetrate the pile of the cloth giving a luxurious dry finish, making the fabric perfect for upholstery, whilst also draping beautifully. INTAGLIO Contemporary meets classical with the Intaglio pattern, which combines several embossed textures, popular during the Georgian era, into a modern and stylish design. The tactile ceramic pattern takes inspiration from the artisan knurling and engine turning techniques pioneered by Josiah Wedgwood in the 18th century and used to this day in Wedgwood s Barlaston factory. Blendworth s studio have used the Intaglio pattern to create a luxurious, textured small-scale weave. The simple, geometric pattern has been woven in Italy using a blend of fibres. A subtle colour palette has been selected to complement the feature designs through the collection. RENAISSANCE Pure graphic ovals, reminiscent of the Wedgwood iconic cameo, combine with bold Florentine accents to create the stylised, heritage look of the Renaissance pattern. Blendworth s studio have translated this classic design into a sophisticated Italian weave, both simple and elegant. Available in a selection of iconic and stylish colourways, the dual-purpose weave is ideal for pairing with plains or complementary prints and will bring a sophisticated grandeur to any home, whether on decorative upholstery, cushions, or drapery.
