SECTION ONE GENERAL INFORMATION Thank you for buying the IQ OPTIONS Sensor Module and we hope you will be fully satisfied with your choice. For your own safety you should read this leaflet before using your unit as it offers advice and precautions for installation and use. This OPTIONS Sensor Module has been designed for you to add control to the range of OPTIONS useful and attractive light fittings. Each and every OPTIONS light fitting is manufactured with the capability to accept this OPTIONS Sensor Module. Installation of this Sensor Module converts the light fitting from a manual into an automatic unit with three different control OPTIONS for you to select from. Without the OPTIONS Sensor module fitted you will need to manually turn your light fitting on and off as and when you need it. With the OPTIONS Sensor Module fitted you can forget about having to remember to switch the unit on or off as the sensor module will do this for you. The OPTIONS Sensor Module can be fitted at any time, before during or after the installation of your OPTIONS light fitting. Once the OPTIONS Sensor Module has been installed you can choose from the following OPTION 1. Dusk-Dawn "Night Sensor" Mode; the unit will illuminate at a level of darkness set by you, and will remain illuminated throughout the night, switching itself off at dawn. This mode is ideal for use with low energy lamps but check your OPTIONS Light Fitting to see if it can use Low Energy lamps. OPTION 2. Motion Sensor Mode; the unit will begin to operate at a level of darkness set by you, illuminating only when the sensor detects movement. The unit will then remain illuminated for a period set by you, returning to the off position when activity ceases. This mode is ideal if you just want light when it is needed. OPTION 3. Night & Motion Sensor, "Hi-Lo" Mode; the unit will operate as per the Motion Sensor mode except that at dusk the unit will illuminate to a dimmed level set by you (0-50%), switching to full brightness when motion is detected for between 5 seconds and five minutes, returning to the dimmed level when activity ceases and switching off completely at dawn. This mode is ideal if you want a little bit of light to enhance the night time appearance of your home but with more light being automatically available when movement is detected. DO NOT USE compact fluorescent lamps in HiLo mode as it will damage both the lamp and the OPTIONS module.

PARTS INCLUDED - PIR Sensor unit. - Instruction manual. Please keep safe for future reference. TOOLS & PARTS NEEDED - Terminal or Electricians screwdriver. Lamps used in OPTIONS fittings must not exceed maximum 40W tungsten halogen, 100W incandescent or 26W compact fluorescent. PLEASE REFER TO THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR THE OPTIONS LANTERN YOU HAVE PURCHASED FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ON SPECIFIC LAMP TYPE AND MAXIMUM LOAD. IMPORTANT!!! The OPTIONS module can be used to control compact fluorescent lamps in PIR and Dusk/ Dawn mode, however, we recommend that the minimum on time is set to no less than 1 minute in order to allow compact fluorescent lamps to reach maximum brightness Compact fluorescent lamps MUST NOT be used when the module is in HiLo Mode. PLEASE CAREFULLY REFER TO SECTION 4 "OPERATION AND TESTING" TO ENSURE THE LAMP TYPE YOU PREFER IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE OPTION MODE YOU REQUIRE SECTION TWO SELECTING THE LOCATION The motion detector has a number of detection zones, at various vertical and horizontal angles as shown (see diagram A). A moving human body needs to cross/enter one of these zones to activate the sensor. The best all-round coverage is achieved with the OPTIONS lantern mounted at the optimum height of 1.8m. The lantern can be installed higher than 1.8m, the range will increase but sensitivity will reduce. Careful positioning of the sensor will be required to ensure optimum performance. See diagram A detailing detection range and direction. The sensor is more sensitive to movement ACROSS its field of vision than to movement directly TOWARDS (see diagram B). Therefore position the unit so that the sensor looks ACROSS the likely approach path. Avoid positioning the lantern where there are any sources of heat in the detection area (extractor fans, tumble dryer exhausts etc.). Reflective surfaces (ie pools of water or white-painted walls) and overhanging branches may cause false activation under extreme conditions. During extreme weather conditions the motion sensor may exhibit unusual behaviour. This does not indicate a fault with the sensor. Once normal weather conditions return, the sensor will resume normal operation. OPTIONS lanterns are for outdoor use only. Unit must be mounted on a non-flammable surface as a fixed luminaire, and is not suitable for portable use.the unit can get very hot during use. Ensure the unit has cooled before handling.ensure adequate ventilation space is allowed between the unit and any object above, in front or to either side of the unit. Suggested space is 0.5m above, 0.3m to either side & 1.0m in front. Do not attempt to install during wet weather, if you are suffering from nausea or dizzy spells or on medication with similar side effects If in any doubt, consult a qualified tradesperson or electrician.

SECTION THREE INSTALLATION *** IMPORTANT *** Switch off the electricity at the fuse box by removing the relevant fuse or switching off the circuit breaker before proceeding with the installation. If you have bought this OPTIONS sensor module at the same time as your OPTIONS lantern, install the lantern according to its own instruction manual, and fit the module referring to Module Insertion below. Alternatively if you have previously purchased and installed the OPTIONS lantern, you will need to remove the circular blanking plate. Ensure the power to the unit is off. Simply insert your terminal screwdriver into the slots at either side of the blanking plate and prise the cover off and continue to Module Insertion below. Module Insertion. The OPTIONS lantern uses an internal rotating sleeve which holds the corresponding connector to which the module must be connected. The internal sleeve will be protruding from the lantern and the clip will be visible on new units. See diagram C. Grip the square protrusion inside the sleeve within the lantern, carefully turn the internal sleeve clockwise until it is fully extended and exposes the rectangular locating clip shown. See diagram C. Align the arrow with the groove in the sleeve and the rectangular clip will locate onto the module. The module is now connected to the lantern and the adjustment knobs are visible to allow you to set up according to your preferred OPTION. SECTION FOUR OPERATION AND TESTING OPTION 1: DUSK-DAWN MODE IT IS ACCEPTABLE TO USE COMPACT FLUORESCENT (CFL ES), LOW ENERGY LAMPS UP TO 26W MAX IN DUSK-DAWN MODE The unit will illuminate at a level of darkness set by you, and will remain illuminated throughout the night, switching itself off at dawn. This mode is ideal for use with low energy lamps but check your OPTIONS Light Fitting to see if Low Energy lamps are capable of being installed. See Diagram D showing adjustment knob identification.

Using your terminal screwdriver, carefully set the adjustment controls as follows:- MODE Turn the MODE control fully clockwise to the DUSK-DAWN setting. DIM The DIM setting is inhibited when the OPTIONS module is in DUSK-DAWN MODE TIME The TIME setting is inhibited when the OPTIONS module is in DUSK-DAWN MODE LUX. The Lux setting determines at which light level the unit will turn ON Turn the LUX control fully clockwise to allow you to test the circuit during daylight. Rotate the module clockwise and the module will rotate upwards and into the lantern, rotate until the module is fully flush with the surface of the lantern. Connect the unit to the mains and switch power on. The unit will immediately illuminate for approximately 30 seconds then go off for a short period, then turn on permanently. This indicates the OPTIONS module is connected correctly. DUSK-DAWN MODE: SETTING UP FOR AUTOMATIC OPERATION The LUX control determines the level of darkness required for the unit to start operating. The setting is best achieved by the procedure below: Set the LUX control knob fully anti-clockwise. Wait until darkness falls. When the ambient light level reaches the level of darkness at which you wish the lamp to become operative (ie. At dusk), SLOWLY rotate the control in a clockwise direction until a point is reached where the lamp illuminates. Leave the control set at this point. At this position, the unit should become operative at approximately the same level of darkness each evening. Observe the operation of the unit. If the unit is starting to operate too early (ie. when it is quite light), adjust the control slightly anti-clockwise. If the unit starts to operate too late (ie. only when it is very dark), adjust the control slightly clockwise. Continue to adjust until the unit operates as desired. MANUAL OVERRIDE MODE The light can be switched on for longer time periods by use of the Manual Override Mode. This can be activated at night by using the internal wall switch or circuit breaker. To activate Manual Override Mode:- Switch the internal wall switch/circuit breaker once (off/on) within 1 second. The unit will now illuminate continuously until dawn or until it is switched back into Auto Mode. To de-activate Manual Override Mode (ie. switch the unit back into Dusk-DawnMode):- Switch the internal wall switch/circuit breaker once (off/on) within one second and the unit will illuminate until dawn then revert to its previous operation. Installation is complete.

OPERATION AND TESTING OPTION 2 : PIR MODE IT IS ACCEPTABLE TO USE COMPACT FLUORESCENT (CFL ES), LOW ENERGY LAMPS UP TO 26W MAX IN PIR MODE. However, recommend that the minimum on time is set to not less than 1 minute in order to allow compact fluorescent lamps to reach maximum brightness before switching off. The unit will begin to operate at a level of darkness set by you, illuminating only when the sensor detects movement. The unit will then remain illuminated for a period set by you, returning to the off position when activity ceases. See Diagram showing adjustment knob identification. Using your terminal screwdriver, carefully set the adjustment controls as follows:- MODE Turn the MODE control fully anti-clockwise to the PIR setting. DIM The DIM setting is inhibited when the OPTIONS module is in PIR MODE TIME The TIME setting determines how long the unit is switched on following activation by movement Turn the TIME control fully anti-clockwise to the 5 sec. setting. LUX. WALK TEST PROCEDURE The unit will immediately illuminate for approximately 30 seconds then go off for a short period, then turn on for approximately 5 seconds when movement is detected. This indicates the OPTIONS module is connected correctly. The unit is now in Test Mode. TEST MODE The lamp will now illuminate for approximately 5 seconds every time movement is detected. Walk across the detection area approximately 5 metres from the unit. Each time you are detected the lamp will illuminate. Now stand still until the lamp extinguishes (this should take approx. 5 seconds) Start moving again, when you are detected again the lamp will illuminate. Repeat the above, walking at various angles and distances to the unit. This will help you to establish the detection pattern.

PIR MODE: SETTING UP FOR AUTOMATIC OPERATION The TIME setting controls how long the unit remains illuminated following activation and after all motion ceases. The minimum time (fully anti-clockwise) is approx. 5 seconds, whilst the maximum time (fully clockwise) is approx. 5 minutes. Set the control to the desired setting between these limits. The LUX control determines the level of darkness required for the unit to start operating. The setting is best achieved by the procedure below: Set the DUSK control knob fully anti-clockwise. To de-activate Manual Override Mode (ie. switch the unit back into PIR Mode):- Switch the internal wall switch/circuit breaker once (off/on) within one second and the unit will illuminate until dawn on detection then revert to its previous operation. The OPTIONS module can be rotated 45 degrees left and 45 degrees right when fully inserted to allow you to further control the detection pattern See diagram D For further information see diagram A for detection pattern and range information. Installation is complete.

OPERATION AND TESTING OPTION 3 : Hi Lo Mode DO NOT USE COMPACT FLUORESCENT (CFL ES), LOW ENERGY LAMPS IN HI LO MODE. IT WILL DESTROY THE OPTIONS SENSOR The unit will operate as per the PIR MODE mode except that at dusk the unit will illuminate to a dimmed level set by you (0-50%), switching to full brightness when motion is detected for between 5 seconds and five minutes, returning to the dimmed level when activity ceases and switching off completely at dawn. See Diagram D showing adjustment knob identification. Using your terminal screwdriver, carefully set the adjustment controls as follows:- MODE Turn the MODE control so the arrow is pointing to the Hi-Lo setting. DIM The DIM setting allows you to adjust the light level that at dusk the unit will illuminate to a dimmed level set by you (0-50% of optimum light output), Turn the DIM control fully anti-clockwise to the 0% setting. TIME The TIME setting determines how long the lantern is switched on following activation by movement Turn the TIME control fully anti-clockwise to the 5 sec. setting. LUX. The Lux setting determines at which light level the lantern will turn ON Turn the LUX control fully clockwise to allow you to test the circuit during daylight. Rotate the module clockwise and the module will rotate upwards and into the lantern, rotate until the module is fully flush with the surface of the lantern. Connect the unit to the mains and switch power on. WALK TEST PROCEDURE The lantern will immediately illuminate for approximately 30 seconds then go off for a short period, then turn on for approximately 5 seconds when movement is detected. The OPTIONS module can be rotated 45 degrees left and 45 degrees right when fully inserted to allow you to further control the detection pattern. See Diagram A for detection range and angles.

HI LO MODE: SETTING UP FOR AUTOMATIC OPERATION The TIME setting controls how long the unit remains illuminated following activation and after all motion ceases. The minimum time (fully anti-clockwise) is approx. 5 seconds, whilst the maximum time (fully clockwise) is approx. 5 minutes. Set the control to the desired setting between these limits. The DIM setting control determines the brightness of the lamp in the dimmed mode. Set the control between minimum (fully anti-clockwise, dimmer OFF) and maximum (fully clockwise, 50% output) at the desired level. The LUX control determines the level of darkness required for the unit to start operating. The setting is best achieved by the procedure below: Set the LUX control knob fully anti clockwise. Wait until darkness falls. When the ambient light level reaches the level of darkness at which you wish the lamp to become operative (i.e.: at dusk) SLOWLY rotate the control in a clockwise direction until a point is reached where the lamp illuminates. Leave the control set at this point. At this position the unit should become operative at approximately the same level of darkness each evening. Observe the operation of the unit. If the unit is starting to operate too early (i.e.: when it is quite light) adjust the control slightly anti-clockwise. If the unit starts to operate too late (i.e.: when it is very dark). Adjust the control slightly clockwise. Continue to adjust until the unit operates as desired. MANUAL OVERRIDE MODE The light can be switched on at full power for longer time periods by use of the Manual Override Mode. This can be activated at night by using the internal wall switch or circuit breaker. To activate Manual Override Mode:- Switch the internal wall switch/circuit breaker once (off/on) within 1 second. The unit will now illuminate continuously at full power until dawn or until it is switched back into Auto Mode. To de-activate Manual Override Mode (ie. switch the unit back into Hi-Lo Mode):- Switch the internal wall switch/circuit breaker once (off/on) within one second. The unit will revert to its previous DIM setting until either activated by movement or switched off at dawn. The OPTIONS module can be rotated 45 degrees left and 45 degrees right when fully inserted to allow you to further control the detection pattern See diagram D For further information see diagram A for detection pattern and range information. Installation is complete. IMPORTANT!! If you decide to change your OPTION module MODE of operation, DO NOT SIMPLY CHANGE THE MODE SETTING BY TURNING THE MODE CONTROL TO ANOTHER SETTING. THIS CAN DAMAGE THE UNIT. The procedure is:- 1. Turn off power 2 Change MODE setting as desired 3. Adjust DIM. LUX and TIME settings as described above in the OPTIONS above 4. SECTION SIX TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE PROBLEM Lamp stays ON all the time at night. SOLUTION The unit is in DUSK DAWN MODE, turn the power off and reset in either PIR or Hi-Lo MODE If the unit is already in PIR or Hi-Lo MODE:- The unit may be suffering from false activation. Cover the sensor lens completely with a thick cloth. This will prevent the sensor from "seeing" anything. If the unit now switches off after the set time duration and does not re-activate, this indicates that the problem was caused by false activation. The problem may be solved by slightly adjusting the direction of the sensor head (see section 4, OPTIONS 2 & 3.) OPTIONS PIR keeps activating for no reason / at random. Ensure the unit is not positioned so as to allow detection of cars/people using public thoroughfares adjacent to your property. OPTIONS sensor will not operate at all. Check that the power is switched ON at the circuit breaker/ internal wall switch. Turn OFF the power to the unit and check the wiring connections as per the diagram on the OPTIONS lantern you have purchased. Ensure no connections are loose. Check the lamp. If the lamp has failed, replace. Ensure that the lamp is seated correctly in the lampholder. Check the OPTIONS module is fitted correctly, remove using a screwdriver and replace, ensure that the the module is firmly fitted into the sleeve and that the clip and arrow are in their correct positions. See diagram C. The OPTIONS sensor will not operate at night. Unit activates during the daytime The level of ambient light in the area may be too bright to allow operation at the current LUX setting. During the hours of darkness, adjust the LUX control slowly clockwise until the lamp illuminates. Refer to previous section for more details. Check that the sensor location is not close to other light sources. The level of ambient light in the area may be too dark for the current DUSK setting. During daylight, adjust the DUSK control slightly anti-clockwise. When the lamp load extinguishes, enter the detection area. If the PIR still activates, the setting is still too high. Repeat the above procedure until the PIR does not activate when you enter the detection area. Refer to previous section for more details.

PROBLEM OPTIONS PIR coverage is poor/sporadic Detection range varies from day to day SOLUTION Unit may be poorly located. See previous section - Selecting The Location and re-locate the unit. PIR sensors are influenced by climatic conditions. The colder the ambient temperature, the more effective the sensor will be. You may need to make seasonal adjustments to the sensor head position to ensure trouble-free operation all year round. DID YOU KNOW... IQ products are designed and manufactured to give many years of trouble-free service. The materials used during manufacture have been selected to improve their ability to be recycled when the product is no longer functional. Waste electrical products should not be disposed of with household waste. Please recycle where facilities exist. Check with your Local Authority or retailer for recycling advice SAVE MONEY & HELP THE ENVIRONMENT Consider using smaller wattage lamp. This could save you up to 40% in running costs, whilst also conserving precious natural resources. LIGHT POLLUTION & CONSIDERATE LIGHTING Please be aware of the annoyance over-lighting an area can cause to your immediate neighbours. Light pollution caused by incorrectly installing a lantern or over-lighting an area can be limited by carefully considering the location and position of your lantern before installation. Please try to concentrate the light on your property and limit the potential inconvenience of the light shining into your neighbours windows etc. Please see Selecting a Location for information on choosing the optimum location for your lantern
