DESCRIPTION The ad notam mounting system for recessed in-wall application is designed to integrate a glass panel (with or without a combined monitor system) into a niche in the wall and is qualified even for installations in damp locations. It combines a mechanical suspension mechanism at the lower edge and magnetic elements at the upper edge in order to allow for easy access to the niche later on for the purpose of maintenance and/or service. There are basically two options of in-wall application, depending on whether you want to install the glass panel flush with the wall or overlapping. 1. GLASS FLUSH WITH THE WALL If you want to install the glass flush with the wall, the niche needs to be created to fit and embed the monitor system, the mounting system and the glass panel. 2. GLASS OVERLAPPING THE NICHE If you want to install the glass overlapping, the niche needs to be created to fit and embed only the monitor system and the mounting system, while the glass surface is overlapping the niche in the wall. 5
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS SAFETY INSTRUCTION REGARDING GLASS SURFACE PREPARATION The glass surface must be clean and dry. Contaminated surfaces should be cleaned with ad notam s preferred solvent. A clean lint-free cloth should be used. Use proper safety precautions for handling solvent. SAFETY INSTRUCTION REGARDING TAPE PRIMER Shake tape primer well before using. Apply a thin uniform coating to the glass surface using the minimum amount that will fully coat the surface. Allow tape primer to dry thoroughly before applying tape. This is usually accomplished in 5 minutes at room temperature. Be sure the primed surface remains free from containments prior to applying the tape. Tape primer can be removed with ad notam s preferred solvent. Vigorous scrubbing may be required. Carefully read and follow manufacturer s precautions and directions for use when handling cleaning solvents. SAFETY INSTRUCTION REGARDING SELF-ADHESIVE TAPE Shelf life: 6 months from day of dispatch by ad notam when stored in the original carton at 21 C [70 F] and 50% relative humidity. SAFETY INSTRUCTION REGARDING APPLYING RM_GM TO GLASS Pressure: Bond strength is dependent upon the amount of adhesive-to-surface contact developed. Firm application pressure develops better adhesive contact and helps improve bond strength. Typically, good surface contact can be attained by applying enough pressure to insure that the tape experiences approximately 15 psi (100 kpa) pressure. Either roller or platen pressure can be used. Note that rigid surfaces may require 2 or times that much pressure to make the tape experience 15 psi. Temperature: Ideal application temperature range is 21-8 C [70-100 F]. Initial tape application to surface at temperatures below 10 C [50 F] is not recommended because the adhesive becomes too firm to adhere readily. However once properly applied low temperature holding is generally satisfactory. Wet out time: After application, the bond strength will increase as the adhesive flows onto the surface. At room temperature approximately 50% of ultimate bond strength will be achieved after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours and 100% after 72 hours. This flow is faster at higher temperatures and slower at lower temperatures. Ultimate bond strength can be achieved more quickly (and in some cases bond strength can be increased) by exposure of the bond to elevated temperatures (e.g. 66 C [150 F] for 1 hour). This can provide better adhesive wet out onto the substrates. 6
PREPARATION REQUIRED TOOLS o Phillips-tip screwdriver o Allen wrench o Level o Measuring tape o Glass suction cups CAUTION Before getting started please notice that ad notam declines any liability for the screws and screw anchors delivered with the product. These may need to be replaced at the job site when considering the nature of the load-bearing wall, since ad notam is not familiar with the construction environment. GLASS PREPARATION - STANDARD RULE OF ASSEMBLY The mounting system elements that need to be affixed on the backside of the glass surface are basically arranged at factory according to a standard rule of assembly: centered 100mm /.94" 15mm / 5.1" 15mm / 0.59" glass metal plates 70 x 70 x 1mm 11mm / 0.4" glass angles 150 x 50 x 14mm 60mm / 2.6" centered 15mm / 5.1" If you have indicated on the ad notam glass orderform that you wish to receive the glass without factory-affixed mounting system elements, they should have been enclosed to your delivery unmounted. In this case please clean the rear side of the glass surface thoroughly with glass cleaner and/or compressed air before beginning assembly. Also make sure that you know where top and bottom is. NOTE After affixing the self-adhesive mounting elements according to your specification allow 24 hours drying to ensure perfect adhesion. WARNING ad notam declines any liability for installations without factory-affixed mounting system elements. 7
PREPARATION WALL PREPARATION Structural measures must be accomplished on the wall in order to create a niche for an in-wall installation. A specialist should carry these out. NICHE DIMENSIONS The required niche dimensions vary according to individual glass dimensions and the type of in-wall installation (flush or overlapping). 1. GLASS FLUSH WITH THE WALL If you want to install the glass flush with the wall, the niche needs to be created to fit and embed the monitor system, the mounting system and the glass panel. If you have decided to install the glass flush with the wall, we recommend to create the niche according to the following formula: niche width = glass width + 2mm glass width + 2mm niche height = glass height + 2mm niche depth = glass depth + 60mm glass heigth + 2mm glass depth + 60mm 2. GLASS OVERLAPPING THE NICHE If you want to install the glass overlapping, the niche needs to be created to fit and embed only the monitor system and the mounting system, while the glass surface is overlapping the niche in the wall. If you have decided to install the glass overlapping, we recommend to create the niche according to the following formula: niche width = glass width - 20mm glass width - 20mm niche height = glass height - 20mm niche depth = 60mm glass heigth - 20mm 60mm 8
ASSEMBLY As a first step of assembly please screw the magnets with the countersunk bolts and hexagonal nuts onto the in-wall magnet holders as follows: POSITIONING OF THE MOUNTING SYSTEM ELEMENTS The positioning of the mounting system elements varies according to individual glass dimensions and the type of in-wall installation (flush or overlapping). 1. GLASS FLUSH WITH THE WALL The mounting system elements that need to be affixed within the niche should be arranged as follows if the glass has been prepared at factory according to the standard rule of assembly (see section glass preparation): centered 75mm / 2.95" 15mm / 5.1" in-wall magnet holders 150 x 6 x 55mm 120mm / 4.72" in-wall brackets 150 x 0 x 12mm plastic spacers 150 x 0 x 10mm 75mm / 2.95" centered 15mm / 5.1" Please bear in mind to use the spacers between the in-wall brackets and the wall. 25mm / 0.98 + glass depth 25mm / 0.98 + glass depth 9
ASSEMBLY 2. GLASS OVERLAPPING THE NICHE The mounting system elements that need to be affixed within the niche should be arranged as follows if the glass has been prepared at factory according to the standard rule of assembly (see section glass preparation): centered 65mm / 2.56" 125mm / 4.92" in-wall magnet holders 150 x 6 x 55mm 4.72" / 120mm in-wall brackets 150 x 0 x 12mm 65mm / 2.56" centered 125mm / 4.92" Don t use the plastic spacers between the in-wall brackets and the wall. 25mm / 0.98 25mm / 0.98 10
MOUNTING When the niche and the glass are prepared use the suction cups to elevate the glass in order to let the self-adhesive glass angles (assembled on the lower backside of the glass) slidein the in-wall brackets (affixed in the lower niche). When the slide-in mechanism is locked in place let the self-adhesive glass metal plates (assembled on the upper backside of the glass) snap the magnets (affixed in the upper niche). NOTE The edges of the glass are very sensitive. Take care that they do not touch the wall in any way to avoid damages and split-offs. 1. GLASS FLUSH WITH THE WALL 2. GLASS OVERLAPPING THE NICHE 11
