WHY PERFORMANCE IN SMOKE CONTROL MATTERS The principle behind smoke and heat exhaust ventilation systems (SHEVS) is to reduce the potentially fatal build-up of smoke and heat, leaving an area of clear air above the floor. Statistics from the Department for Communities and Local Government reveal that 53% of all fire-related fatalities are attributed to people being overcome by smoke or gas, rather than dying from the fire itself. Smoke vents are life-saving devices that greatly increase occupants chances of survival in the event of fire outbreak.
