Community Connections & Placemaking The Neighbourhood Matching Fund (NMF) supports projects which actively involve people in: building neighbourhood connections and local community identity while improving parks or other public spaces 7

Sweat Equity + NMF Investments = Real Rewards The Vancouver Park Board matches contributions made by the community through: volunteer labour (valued at $15/hr.) donated professional services in-kind donation of supplies and other funds raised The Neighbourhood Matching Fund is not a grant. The Fund reimburses community groups for necessary expenditures. 12

Sweat Equity + NMF Investments = Real Rewards Many projects are approved for $4,000-$6,000 Maximum funding per project is $10,000 13

Sweat Equity + NMF Investments = Real Rewards Interested Community groups apply to the fund. There are two deadlines, Spring and Fall of each year. Funding decisions are made by a Community Advisory Committee. 14

Community Decision-Making: Advisory Committee The Advisory Committee has 8 members: Committee member terms are 4 years. A Park Board Commissioner Liaison sits as a nonvoting member of the committee. Advisory Committee members: Together, represent a wide variety of Vancouver s diverse communities and different neighbourhoods understand and have experience with community organizations are residents of Vancouver 16

Projects Approved in 2015 - Spring Joy Kogawa House sponsored READ ME: the Marpole Library Community Mural Project. Still Moon Arts Society will be working on story murals about Still Creek in Renfrew-Collingwood. Charleson Park Community Gardeners are creating an ornamental and pollinator border and fence. Evergreen is creating a pollinator pathway, and mural with Mount Pleasant residents Environmental Youth Alliance are leading work on the Copley Community Orchard. Britannia community is working on an Indigenous Garden for their 30 new carving pavilion.

Projects Approved in 2015 - Fall Renfrew Collingwood Senior s Society will work enhance the front area of the centre. Hives for Humanity will be expanding the DTES seed library and demonstration garden. ALIVE will be bringing together residents in the Hastings area to create a carved shadow box. Magpie s Nest Community Art Society will be enhancing a community board in Woodland Park. Neighbours will be partnering with Hastings Community Centre to convert a boulevard into a permaculture garden. 31
