CARS Connecting communities through cultural programming, urban interventions and active engagement. Urban Innovators Creative Curators Community Advocates Urban Planning Event Planning & Production Public Engagement & Marketing Community Arts Resources (CARS) is a diverse collective of creatively minded planners and producers engaged in the changing dynamics of the urban environment. Based in Los Angeles, we partner with neighborhoods, nonprofits, foundations, cities, cultural institutions, developers and designers to create public programs and events that highlight the unique character and untapped potential of a particular place. With more than a quarter of a century of experience in activating the urban realm, CARS creates unique experiences where arts, culture, community and civic life collide.

We re not your traditional urban planners. We re urban doers. Urban Innovators In addition to our innovative work on events, CARS has established itself as a leader in the urban planning world. We design new public spaces and active transportation improvements. We develop creative approaches to neighborhood economic development. And we experiment with progressive planning strategies, employing temporary, tactical interventions to showcase what could be. At the core of our urban planning practice is the belief that every place, neighborhood and city possesses a layered history and cultural identity that should be explored and considered throughout the life of a project.

As urban planners, we are obsessed with digging into a site s unique identity and defining strategies for how a new development, park, public space, or even streetscape can honor these place-based characteristics while serving the contemporary needs of the current and future population. We are fascinated by the multiple ways in which diverse groups interact with a particular place and we call upon our years of experience as event producers to develop plans that are flexible and attractive to these varied audiences. Our urban planning practice includes: Neighborhood-based economic development Community visioning Tactical urbanism Public space design, programming and governance Active transportation improvements Facilities studies Featured Projects: Grand Park Broadway Theater District Study CicLAvia California Plaza Greystone Mansion La Plaza de Cultura y Artes The Japanese American Cultural & Community Center Metro s Gold Line Eastside Access Project Re:Imagine Garden Grove The Michigan Avenue Neighborhood Greenway (Pop-Up MANGo) The Redlands Bowl

Creative Curators CARS events create place and strengthen community and cultural connections. Dubbed by The New York Times as Los Angeles preeminent festival producer, CARS designs, installs and oversees large-scale festivals and other community-focused events for a local, national and international clientele. Wildly accessible, our work provides participants the opportunity to engage with their neighbors, with cultural creativity and with the dynamic spark of urban life. CARS founders Katie Bergin and Aaron Paley and their dedicated staff have created, produced and promoted some of Los Angeles most innovative cultural programs and events in public space. Programs and Events include: Chinatown Summer Nights The Santa Monica Festival Re:Imagine Garden Grove GLOW Pop-Up MANGo CicLAvia The Getty Museum Family Festivals Little Tokyo Design Week Voices of LA Pop-Up Broadway Friday Nights at the Getty Yiddishkayt Family Festivals First Fridays at the Natural History Museum Los Angeles at the Guadalajara Book Festival

Our work is popular because it is fun plain and simple. It is successful because people are happier in a place where they have access to a real sense of gathering and engagement when they feel a strong connection to a place and its unique characteristics. CARS events and programming offer a sense of spectacle and play. These elements, combined with a keen sense of site and timing and a highly professional approach to production, give our work an appealing freshness. Our incredible dedication and strong reputation have earned us the respect and ongoing business of an impressive list of public and private clients. Our clients include: The Getty Museum The Walt Disney Company The City and County of Los Angeles The Cities of Santa Monica, Ventura, Downey, Garden Grove, Calgary and Beverly Hills The California Endowment The Lomoc Housing and Community Development Corporation CicLAvia The Redlands Bowl The Irvine Foundation The Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles The Japanese American Cultural and Community Center The Music Center of Los Angeles County CalArts UCLA Fowler Museum Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County Metro, Los Angeles The Durfee Foundation The Skirball Museum and Cultural Center The Japanese American National Museum The Annenberg Beach House The Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts The Broad Stage The Broad Museum

Building buzz one neighborhood at a time. Community Advocates As public engagement specialists, we strengthen neighborhood identity through interactive urban experiences and polished marketing and branding efforts. Our marketing and communications campaigns have helped to shift perceptions of individual communities, engage new audiences in the planning and neighborhood revitalization process and attract hundreds of thousands of participants to our large-scale festivals. CARS unique experience in leading community outreach and engagement processes in conjunction with our events and urban planning projects has helped us hone our public workshop philosophy, which is embedded in our firm s first and last names Community and Resources. We tap into our expertise in event production and our deep understanding of local communities to create engaging, exciting and comfortable experiences for all participants pop-up workshops that are at once educational and fun.

CARS creates highly accessible and unique brand identities that catch the attention of a diverse public. Through creative media and marketing collateral we build an exciting awareness around a project or event, and we engage the press and community bloggers to amplify our message as far and wide as possible. With extensive experience in on-the-ground outreach, we employ door-to-door notifications and direct communications with community and civic organizations and leaders to disseminate project information to target populations. Our ever-expanding database of over 90,000 individuals, artists, organizations and venues affords us access to a highly engaged and culturally curious audience. Our public engagement and marketing practice includes: Project and neighborhood branding Print and digital collateral development Website development Social media management Public relations On-the-ground outreach Stakeholder engagement Some of our most notable marketing and branding campaigns include our work on: Chinatown Summer Nights The Santa Monica Festival Re:Imagine Garden Grove CicLAvia Voices of LA Go Little Tokyo
