1. SCOPE OF WORK The purpose of these specifications is the completion of a contract. This work will be performed at the main Middlesex County College campus in Edison, New Jersey and New Brunswick Center in New Brunswick, NJ. The contractor shall provide all of the necessary labor, materials, tools and equipment required to complete the work described on the drawings and in these specifications. Materials used in this contract shall be of equal or better. The contractor shall apply for and secure all required permits. The contractor shall be required to attend a pre-construction meeting on campus at a time to be scheduled after the contract is awarded and other job progress meetings as required by the College and the Engineer. A. LOCATION: Facilities Maintenance Building Welding Shop Provide and install 1 smoke detector, 1 pull station and 1 horn strobe in the Welding shop. All wiring shall be red armored MC. Part numbers are Simplex. See drawing Facilities Management & Warehouse Floor Plan 1 of 1. 1 4098-9612 Fixed Temp Heat Detector/Base 1 2099-9754 Pull Statin and back box 1 4906-9137 Horn/Strobe and back box As required 18-2 mc Red armored cable for fire alarm Other Necessary Wiring, Materials and Hardware B. LOCATION: Center Buildings 1, 2, 3 and 4 Provide and install smoke detectors in the basements only in Center s 1, 2, 3 and 4. NOTE: all basements are typical. MCC will provide 120 V power to new panel and communication; 2 pairs of dry contacts (copper). New alarm panel and horn strobe shall be mounted in basement next to electrical panel. Pull stations shall be mounted next to the 2 first floor main entrance doors and also at the top of both basement stairway landings. Note: Pull station wires shall be concealed in the wall (no wire mold). All wiring shall be red armored MC. Contractor is to provide on-site alarm panel training to MCC maintenance staff. C-3

D. LOCATION: Mill Gate Building Replace all existing devices in building. Leave existing Firelite alarm panel and wiring in place. Install Strobe only devices and smoke detectors in newly renovated rooms (116, 117 bathrooms and 100A, 100B exam rooms). Use red armored MC for wiring devices. MATERIALS The materials used under this contract shall be as specified on the drawings and in the specifications, be of a quality acceptable to the Engineer and meet applicable codes. See SECTION 1- Scope of Work C-6

3. INSTALLATION/EXECUTION See SECTION 1- Scope of work. 4. COMPLIANCE The Contractor shall comply with all of the College s safety and work rules when performing work at the college. All contractor employees, subcontractors, etc. shall sign-in daily at the Facilities Management Building upon arrival on campus to be issued a contractors identification badge. It is expected that all contractor employees will conduct themselves in a professional manner. The buildings will be occupied during this project. The contractor shall provide temporary barriers consisting of caution tape to separate the work area from the occupied space. As to not to disrupt the educational process, all testing of alarms must be scheduled with the Facilities Maintenance Department in advance. Middlesex County College is a smoke-free campus. Smoking is only permitted inside a person s personal vehicle. Smoking is not permitted anywhere else on campus or in any construction equipment. The College Police will issue summonses with fines to anyone found in violation of this policy. 5. SITE CLEANUP The work area shall be cleaned on a daily basis. Any items remaining shall be secured and surrounded with safety tape and/or barriers. Any damage caused by the contractor shall be repaired at no cost to the college. The contractor is to remove all trash, excavated materials, and other waste off site and disposed of it in accordance with current regulations. Provide the college with weight tickets for any materials that can be recycled. The cost for the testing of any materials prior to the removal from the campus as required by regulatory agencies is the responsibility of the contractor. 6. TIME CONSTRAINTS If the Board of Trustees of Middlesex County College has approved an award 10 days C-7

prior to April 6, 2015, the contractor shall complete the work within 60 days of receipt of Edison Township permits. If the Board has not approved the award by 10 days prior to April 6, 2015, then the College will advise the contractor of an alternate start date. These time constraints include up to calendar 60 days to obtain permits from the Township of Edison. If the Township has issued a permit after this period due to reasons beyond the contractor s control, then the College will advise the contractor of an alternate completion date. The contractor must submit the permit applications within 7 calendar days of the Notice of Award. This 7 day period is excusive of the 60 days. 7. WORK HOURS All work is to be performed during normal work hours 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. If additional work hours are required, they shall be included in the contractor's bid price and approval of the College shall be requested by the contractor in writing 48 hours prior to the desired work date. The work hours in this section take precedent over, and will supersede any conflicting references to hours of work elsewhere in these plans and specifications. 8. WARRANTY All materials and workmanship shall be replaced at no cost for a period of one year from the date of final payment unless noted otherwise. 9. PERMITS The contractor shall apply for and secure all required building permits from Edison Township. It is anticipated that the time to obtain a permit could be up to calendar 60 days. The contractor shall allow for this when preparing the project schedule. The fee will be waived by Edison when a letter provided by the College is submitted with the application. As part of the permit process, Edison also requires a Contractor's License. This fee is the responsibility of the contractor. The contractor is also responsible for obtaining and paying for a fire permit or any other such permit that may be required by the Township of Edison. The contractor is also responsible for coordinating and obtaining all inspections, approvals and the final Certificate of Occupancy or Approval. Final payment will not be made until all work is completed and the final Certificate and all close-out documents described in these specifications are received. C-8
