PPE AND CURTAINS FOR HAND-HELD LASERS FOR MATERIALS PROCESSING. 83 According to the German Occupational Safety Regulations on Artificial Optical Radiation (OStrV), it is obligatory to wear personal laser protective equipment when operating Class 3B, 3R and 4 laser systems. Together with the STFI (Saxony Textile Research Institute) and the LZH (Hanover Laser Center), JUTEC developed a testing principle under the name PROSYSLaser for testing protective equipment for laser protection textiles and in particular to be able to offer it for this application. The development for textiles as laser protection clothing, gloves and laser protection curtains is carried out based on this research. EN 388 DIN SPEC 91250:2014-11 EN 407 + LASER Standards for protective gloves against laser radiation DIN EN ISO 11612 + LASER TEST Standard for protective clothing against laser radiation DIN EN 12254:2012-04 Standard for protective curtains against laser radiation The task of the laser protection textiles is to absorb the irradiated energy in case of an accidental laser hit in such a way that the user has sufficient time to move out of the danger area before permanent injuries result. Applications: The number of applications of hand-held laser devices (HLD) for materials processing is continually growing. The fields of application of the HLDs include car manufacturing, shipbuilding, aircraft construction, mechanical engineering and toolmaking. Based on devices for precision welding, HLDs are used today among other things for: 8 Welding, cutting 8 Soldering 8 Surface machining 8 Cleaning tool molds 8 Cutting applications 8 Hardening 8 Melting 8 Laboratory work 8 System modification 8 Setting up lasers 8 Servicing lasers 8 etc. 8 Photos: LZH

PASSIVE LASER PROTECTION CURTAINS. 89 Our passive laser protection curtains are suitable for securing laser areas in laboratories and medical facilities in which Class 3B or 4 lasers are used. If requirements for laser protection walls change, e.g. if laser systems of various sizes must be briefly encased or laser systems must be encased for maintenance, the use of laser curtains in mobile frames is advisable. The multi-layer carbonized laser protection curtain (ML-6) consists of highly absorbent, non-flammable fabric. The suitability of the laser protection curtains for the respective application is subject to the individual assessment of the laser specifications and is the responsibility of local laser protection representative. As a light-proof material, the curtain is suitable for the following laser wavelengths in the medium power range: λ [nm] Protection level 200-315 D AB8 - IR AB3 - M AB6Y 316-1,050 D AB6 1,051-1,400 D AB5 316-1,400 I AB8 - R AB6Y - M AB7Y 1,401-11,000 D AB2 - I AB3 DIN EN 12254:2012-04 8 D = Continuous oscillating laser (CW) > 0.25 pulse duration in seconds 8 I = Pulse laser > 10 6 to 0.25 pulse duration in seconds 8 R = Giant pulse laser 10 9 to 10 6 pulse duration in seconds 8 M = Mode-coupled pulse laser < 10 9 pulse duration in seconds Y = The test was not conducted at low repetition rates ( 25 Hz). 8 Endless curtains made-tomeasure 8 Vertical blinds overlapping 8 Curtains in frame 8 Curtains closed on three sides Art. REGULATION. 815 8 Occupational Safety Regulations on Artificial Optical Radiation (OStrV) "The employer must ensure during operation of Class 3R, 3B and 4 lasers according to Section 5 of the German OstrV, that the hazard evaluations, the measurements and the calculations are only carried out by expert laser protection representatives." According to Sec. 7 Measures for avoiding and reducing the hazards to employees "by artificial optical radiation, the employer must carry out the protective measures according to Section 3 Paragraph 1 Sentence 7 according to the latest technology in order to exclude hazards to the employees, or to reduce them as far as possible. In particular, the measures include the selection and use of suitable Personal Protection Equipment." 8 BG ETEM EFFECT OF LASER PPE (CLOTHING AND GLOVES). The majority of the laser radiation which strikes the PPE is diffusely reflected by the outer layer. The energy of the absorbed portion of radiation is expanded in the entire surface of the first inner layer, causing an increase in the protective effect of the textile and reducing the probability of injury.
