PREPARING YOUR ICE MAKER FOR USE IMPORTANT SAFETY AND OPERATION NOTES When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons or property. Read all instructions before using any appliance. Do not operate this, or any other appliance with a damaged cord. Connect to properly polarized outlets only. No other appliance should be plugged into the same outlet. Be sure that the plug is fully inserted into the receptacle. Do not run the power cord over carpeting or other heat insulators. Do not cover the cord. Keep the cord away from traffic areas, and do not allow any part of the cord to be submerged in water. We do not recommend the use of an extension cord, as it may overheat and become a risk of fire. If you must use an extension cord, use No.14 AWG minimum size, and rated no less than 1875 watts. Unplug the ice maker before cleaning. Exercise caution and use reasonable supervision when appliance is used near children. Do not use your ice-maker outdoors. Place the ice-maker away from direct sunlight and make sure that there is at least 4 inches of space between the back of your unit and any wall. Keep other objects a minimum distance of 4 inches from each side of your unit. Do not use other liquids to make cubes only use water. Do not allow the unit to tip over. If the unit is accidentally tipped more than 30 o, turn the unit off, and allow it to stand for one hour for the refrigerant fluid to settle. If the ice maker is brought in from a cold outside temperature, wait up to a few hours to allow the unit to warm up to room temperature before plugging it in. This item is intended to make ice for short-term need. This is not an ice storage appliance to keep ice frozen long term after use, remove all ice cubes and drain all water. WARNING: This appliance must be plugged into a grounded outlet. Do not attempt to service or repair this item. Ice maker must be placed on a flat, horizontal surface for proper functioning and to avoid a hazard. Portable 30 lb. OPERATING PROCEDURES & MAINTENANCE UNPACKING YOUR ICE MAKER 1. Carefully remove the exterior and interior packaging. Keep the packaging until you are sure the unit is working well. Remove the tape from all parts. 2. Before using the unit, remove the ice scoop and ice basket and wash them thoroughly. Clean the interior with lukewarm water and a soft cloth. 3. Find a location for your ice maker that is protected from direct sunlight and other sources of heat. Place the ice maker on a level surface. Make sure that there is at least 4 inches of space around the back and sides of your ice maker. 4. Stand the unit upright for one hour to allow the refrigerant fluid to settle before plugging the power cord in an outlet. 5. The appliance must be positioned so that the plug can easily be removed from an outlet. CONNECTING YOUR ICE MAKER DANGER* * Improper use of the grounded plug can result in the risk of electrical shock. If the power cord is damaged please call our customer service. 1. This unit should be properly grounded for your safety. The power cord of this appliance is equipped with a three-prong plug to be used with a standard three prong wall outlet, to minimize the possibility of electric shock. 2. Plug your appliance into a properly installed, grounded wall outlet. Do not under any circumstances, cut or remove the third (ground) prong from the power cord. Any questions concerning power and/or grounding should be directed toward a certified electrician. 3. This appliance requires a standard 110-120volt, 60Hz grounded (three-prong) electrical outlet. CLEANING AND MAINTAINING YOUR ICE MAKER 1. Take out the ice basket and wash with diluted detergent, warm water, and a soft cloth 2. Clean the interior with diluted detergent, warm water, and a soft cloth. Do not allow water to get into the electrical parts at the back of the unit. 3. Rinse the interior, and drain the water by unplugging the drain cap on the side. DO NOT TILT THE UNIT TO EMPTY THE WATER. You will need to wait an hour with the unit upright to allow the refrigerant fluid to settle before plugging the power cord in an outlet. 4. Keep the outside of the ice maker clean - use warm water and a soft cloth. If necessary, use a mild detergent solution. 5. Dry the interior and exterior with a soft cloth. 6. When the machine is not in use for a long time, open water drain cap to completely empty the water from the water reservoir. Portable 30 lb. After using your ice maker for a long time, we recommend that you clean your unit, especially the water filters and the water separator pipe. To check and clean the water filters - to be sure that the water filters are not blocked by any substance or foreign matter. They are plastic, thimble-size cups located at bottom of big water reservoir and under the ice basket near the lower right corner. Stick your finger in the cup and pull it straight out. To check and clean the water separator pipe - If you hear that the compressor and the water pump are running, but there is no water flowing, the water separator pipe could be blocked. Turn off the unit, slide the water separator pipe to the right and lift upward. Disconnect it from the silicone tube. Use a slim wire to clean each hole. Replace the water separator pipe - be sure the right end of the pipe is connected to the silicone pipe and the holes point downward. Water Separator Pipe Hole silicone tube Evaporator Evaporator (does not come out of the unit) Clean both the water tank and the big water reservoir with diluted detergent, warm water and a soft cloth. Then use the water to rinse the inside. DO NOT TILT THE UNIT TO DRAIN OUT THE WATER - Drain out the water from the draining port by unplugging the drain cap on the back. This will help you keep the unit and ice-cube clean, and also make the unit work normally. When cleaning, if you find that the ice cubes left on the evaporator and cannot be taken out easily, turn on the unit so it begins the ice-making process. Then press ON/OFF button for more than 5 seconds to let the unit start the ice harvest process. This will melt the ice cubes so you can remove them. How to drain out the water from the internal tank and big water reservoir: Do not turn the ice maker over - not all water will drain out of the unit. If you want to drain all the water, plug in the unit, but don t start it. Remove the drain port cap at the back of the unit. Wait a few minutes, and all of the water will flow out. Portable 30 lb. USING YOUR ICE MAKER Note: After moving or tipping the unit, better to allow the refrigerant liquid inside the compressor at least 1 hour to settle before restarting. 1. Remove the cover of the water reservoir and pour clean water into the water reservoir. Be sure to keep water level below the max. level with FULL mark displayed, see below. Replace the cover so water stays clean. Cover for the water reservoir Warning: Do not pour the water into the internal water tank located underneath the ice basket. This tank is not big enough and will affect the ice-making performance. 2. Plug in the main power supply plug. Then press ON/OFF button on the control panel to begin the ice making cycle. Note: After you plug in the unit, the green power indicator will flash. To turn the unit on, you must press the ON/OFF button. The green power indicator will then remain on. 3. The ice making cycle lasts about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the room temperature. At first use, the ice-making last time will be a little longer. In rooms with higher temperature, ice-making time may vary, but it will not exceed 50 minutes. To make thicker ice cubes: After plugging on the unit, press ON/OFF button for more than 5 seconds, then release to start the unit, the unit will add 3 minutes more to each ice-making cycle automatically to thicken the ice cube. So if you desire to thicken your ice-cube, turn off the unit, then press ON/OFF button again for more than 5 seconds to turn on the unit again. 4. While the ice-maker is on, periodically check the water level of the internal tank located underneath the ice basket. If there is not enough water to last for the ice-making cycle, the unit will automatically let the water flow from the big water reservoir downward to the internal tank to continue the ice-making process. If both of the internal water tank and big water reservoir do not have enough water, the ice maker will stop automatically, and the Add Water indicator will be on. 5. Fill water up to big water reservoir to the maximum water level mark. 6. The ice maker automatically stops working when the ice basket is full and the Full Ice indicator will be on. 7. Change water in the water reservoir every 24 hours to ensure a reasonable hygiene Portable 30 lb. Ice Maker #512786 Current instructions at www.improvementscatalog.com 1-800-642-2112 Page 7 of 8

level. If unit isn t in use for a long time, drain all water left in the water tank and water reservoir. TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE SOLUTION ADD WATER indicator is on. Lack of water. Stop the ice maker, pour water into the big water reservoir, up to FULL mark, then press ON/OFF button again to restart the unit. FULL ICE indicator is on. There is too much ice. Remove ice from ice basket. The big reservoir is full of water, but ADD WATER indicator is always on. No water flows out from the water separator pipe. Water is in the unit, the ADD WATER indicator is not on, but the unit does not make ice cubes. Ice cube is too weak and thin. Ice making cycle is normal but no ice is made. The water is distilled, it is too pure. The water filer at bottom of the water reservoir is blocked, and water can t enter into the lower water tank. The holes at the bottom of the water separator are blocked. The water is not enough pure. The wall of the lower tank under the ice basket is too dirty. The room is too warm. Room temperature or water temperature in inner tank is too high. Refrigerant liquid leakage. Pipe in the cooling system is blocked. Change the water to normal clean water or mineral water. Check to be sure that the water filters are not blocked by any substance or foreign matter. See Use a slim wire to clean each hole, so the water can flow out easily. Use clean, filtered water - any impurity or other liquids will damage your unit. Clean the water tank. Turn off the unit, then press ON/OFF button again for more than 5 seconds to turn on the unit again. It will lengthen each ice-making cycle time. Use in a room that is below 90 o and pour colder water into the tank. Verify by a qualified technician. Verify by a qualified technician. Portable 30 lb.
