Communication and Working Relationship - programme of work 1.1 Support the lead gardener on the planning and implementation of the programme of work for the College s 9 acre grounds in conjunction with the community, including wildlife areas, perennial and annual food production areas and ornamental gardens 1.2 Implement seasonal work schedules, including shrub and tree pruning plans and propagation 1.3 Liaise with artington Hall Trust s Grounds and Gardens for contractual services (grass maintenance, tree works and aerial pruning) 1.4 Contribute to tools maintenance, repair and replacement 1.5 Review and adhere to garden risk assessments and health and safety 1.6 Liaise with kitchen staff on cropping and harvesting 1.7 Assist Lead Gardener with student projects and instruction where required 1.8 emonstrate innovation in ecological and sustainable horticulture, especially relating to composting, soil care, perennial and novel food plants, organic kitchen garden and habitat provision

Planning and Organisation 2.1 Instructor for the Sustainable Horticulture Practical Residency Programme 2.2 Lead a range of gardening groups in practical gardening activities, including short courses, Masters groups and community workdays 2.3 Induct, supervise and support short-term and long-term volunteers in gardening activities 2.4 ngage and inspire students and other community members in sustainable and ecological horticultural practices 3. The Schumacher community 3.1 Report on garden operations or activities at relevant meetings 3.2 As a member of the College Community, you will be integral and fully contribute to the rhythms and processes of community life 4. Administration 4.1 nsure teaching standards and practices are up to date 5. Finance and resources 5.1 Process and keep records of expenditure within agreed parameters 6. Supervision and Leadership 6.1 Actively take part in annual performance reviews and regular 1-2-1s with your Line Manager ensuring you are clear on your role and objectives and take advantage of development opportunities provided. 6.2 Responsible for your own health and safety and that of colleagues and others affected by your work. 7. General 7.1 All who work at the College will be expected to be involved in all aspects of the College. This includes being part of the work teams, kitchen duties and taking part as appropriate in morning meetings, working with volunteers and being involved with course participants on all the courses offered. PRSON SPCIFICATION Sustainable Horticulture Trainer and Gardener SKILLS xcellent and enthusiastic communicator Ability to organise and lead inclusive and inspiring practical outdoor activities fficient and well-organised in horticultural tasks Ability to work as part of a team Ability to write effective lesson plans and deliver excellent training sessions SSNTIAL/ SIRABL KNOWLG Organic horticulture, fertility building and composting Risk Assessment processes and procedures as they apply to garden activities Good plant identification Amenity grounds maintenance on organic principles Perennial food plants, agroforestry and novel crops Biodiversity and habitat creation XPRINC Teaching and leading practical horticultural sessions Propagation and rotation for organic kitchen garden Care of fruit and ornamental trees and shrubs Amenity grounds maintenance, including turf, ornamental shrubs and herbaceous borders Garden construction work (eg compost bays, raised beds) QUALIFICATIONS Level 3 or RHS Advanced Certificate in Horticulture or proven equivalent work experience First Aid at Work Certificate or willing to undertake training Health & Safety or willing to undertake training
SPCIAL RQUIRMNTS Willing to work outside normal hours and with appropriate flexibility to accommodate course requirements. Willing to adopt a flexible approach to hours of work to reflect the changing needs of the seasons. Full driving licence and willingness to use private car for occasional work use
