WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS INTRODUCTION Read this entire instruction manual before operation. Failure to adhere to the following instructions can cause harm to you or the product. Only use the Electronic Insect Killer as outlined in this manual. Using this product for unintended purposes may result in shock or serious injury. Thank you for purchasing the Electronic Insect Killer. This powerful bug zapper is the perfect solution for keeping your home, porch and patio insect-free. The product diagram below explains all the pieces you will find inside the box. Setup is quick and easy, but please follow all instructions to ensure safe and effective operation. Keep all plastic packing materials away from small children and babies to prevent suffocation. Only use product with the adapter provided. Always unplug the Electronic Insect Killer before moving, cleaning or changing the light bulbs. To avoid electric shock, always wear thick plastic gloves when cleaning the unit or changing the light bulb. If the unit is placed on a covered porch or patio, always unplug it during rain or thunder. Be sure the unit is dry and dirt-free before plugging back in. When necessary, only use an extension cord with an electrical rating that supports the Electronic Insect Killer's amperage. Cords rated for less amperage may overheat. Arrange the cord so that it cannot be inadvertently pulled or tripped over. Do not use the unit if the plug is damaged or loose. Do not place the unit where it is within reach of children or pets. Do not cover the unit with cloth or paper. Always clean the bug collection tray when it is full. Failure to do so could create a fire hazard. Do not place the unit on an unstable surface where it can easily tip or fall. Do not use near flammable sprays or objects. Do not touch product or its cord with wet hands to avoid electric shock. Never touch the unit's high voltage mesh with a metal rod or other metal item except as indicated on Page 7. Do not fill the bug collection tray with water or other liquids. Only replace the UV light tube with a bulb that meets the specifications listed on Page 9. INSTALLATION The Electronic Insect Killer is designed to attract bugs to its UV light tube. For the comfort of you and your guests, select an installation location at least 10 feet away from human activity and the area you are trying to keep bug-free. Hanging This product has a built-in hook for convenient hanging (chain not provided). Before hanging, make sure your chain can adequately support the weight of the unit. The product should be suspended at lest 6 feet above the floor and one foot from the wall, house plants or other objects. Power Connection Connect the DC head of the AC adaptor into the unit and then plug the adaptor into the electrical socket. Both the power indicator light and UV light tube will turn on when the unit is connected to power. Disconnection of Power To disconnect the power, unplug the AC Adaptor from the electrical socket. The unit should always be unplugged when not in use or when being cleaned. MAINTENANCE & CLEANING Never touch the high voltage mesh while the unit is plugged in to the electrical socket. Always use thick rubber gloves to clean the unit or replace the light tube. Failure to do so could result in electric shock. De-electrification for High Voltage Mesh The unit's high voltage mesh may still hold an electrical charge immediately after you unplug it. To de-electrifiy, touch the high voltage mesh with an insulated screwdriver to ensure there are no sparks. Cleaning Instructions Before cleaning the unit, follow the de-electrification instructions above to deactivate any residual electrical discharge.then, use the provided cleaning brush to dust away debris from the high voltage mesh and UV light tube. Make sure the cleaning brush is completely dry before use. Never wet the cleaning brush or use detergents of any kind to clean the high voltage mesh or UV light tube. Cleaning the Bug Collection Tray To empty the bug collection tray, lift the unit upright and twist the bug collection tray counterclockwise. Remove the tray to clean. Empty the contents in the trash and use a soft cloth to wipe away any remaining debris. If necessary, a mild hand soap or detergent may be use. Be sure to completely dry the bug collection tray before reassembling the unit. 46 57
MAINTENANCE & CLEANING (CONT'D) Cleaning the Housing Before cleaning the housing, follow the de-electrification instructions on Page 7 to deactivate any residual electrical discharge. Then, unscrew the housing retaining screw and twist the top of the unit counterclockwise. Pull up to remove the high voltage mesh and UV light tube. Set both aside. MAINTENANCE & CLEANING (CONT'D) UV Light Tube Specifications: PELB4W, 4W Rinse the housing under running water. Use a soft cloth if necessary to remove stubborn debris. Completely air dry the housing before reassembling the unit. Residual moisture left on the housing may cause electric shock or product failure. Never wet the high voltage mesh or UV light tube. Only the housing and bug collection tray should be cleaned with water. Never use abrasive objects or detergents to clean the housing. Doing so may damage the TiO2 coating. Replacing the UV Light Tube Before replacing the UV ligth tube, follow the de-electrification instructions on Page 7 to deactivate any residual electrical discharge. Unscrew the housing retaining screw and twist the top of unit counterclockwise. Pull up to remove the high voltage mesh and UV light tube. Remove the three screws from the bottom of the electric shock unit along with the triangular cover. Take out the light tube. Insert the replacement light tube and ensure it is properly connected to prevent electric shock. Replace the triangular cover and screws. 68 79
TROUBLESHOOTING WARRANTY If you are having problems with the Electronic Insect Killer, see if one of the solutions below can resolve the problem before contacting Pure Enrichment. The Electronic Insect Killer comes with an industry-leading 2 Year Warranty that begins on the date of purchase. Problem UV light tube is off Not catching insects Solution Power plug: Make sure the unit is plugged in. Socket Failure: Ensure other electrical appliances are working when plugged into the socket. Loose Triangular Cover: Make sure the cover is properly screwed into the electric shock unit. Old UV Light Tube: Replace the UV light tube. Dirty High Voltage Mesh: Clean according to instructions on Page 7. Ambient Light is Too Bright: Dim the lighting surrounding the unit. The warranty does not apply to damage resulting from failure to follow the operating instructions, accidents, abuse, or alterations.
