Making Complex Simple creative minds safe hands

Liverpool Waters MAKING COMPLEX SIMPLE For over 50 years we have worked on some of the most complex projects in the world, often in difficult environments. This experience gives us the knowledge and expertise needed to develop innovative yet deliverable solutions which help clients realise their corporate and project ambitions. Liverpool Waters From new homes, schools and hospitals to new and re-energised towns and cities, we develop inspired solutions that have a positive and long-lasting environmental, social and economic impact wherever we work.

HEALTHCARE Working at the forefront of healthcare design, we have extensive experience in providing innovative, safe and sustainable facilities to meet the needs of an ever evolving healthcare service. They deliver fully integrated client solutions ranging from strategy and feasibility to the full design delivery of an acute hospital. Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast Since 1993 we have supported Royal Victoria Hospital in the delivery of state-of-the-art care facilities for patients. Providing multi-disciplinary services to three major phases plus minor associated contracts totalling over 200m their teams have helped to deliver everything from new and refurbished accommodation for a four-storey integrated women s and children s hospital, to support facilities including a pharmacy, laboratories, intensive treatment units, a new imaging centre and an out-patients department.

Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham Our multi-disciplinary team were integral to the delivery of this 550m hospital which provides a number of facilities for patients including over 1,000 beds and 30 operating theatres, teaching facilities and a psychiatric hospital.

Pinderfields Hospital, West Yorkshire Our civil and structural engineers redeveloped Pinderfields General Hospital site in Wakefield into a major acute centre with integral ambulatory care and a diagnostic centre. Holding regular workshops with the Trust s technical team throughout, we developed innovative, creative and cost saving solutions to ensure a top quality facility was delivered for the local area.

Royal Blackburn Hospital, Lancashire This 93m project involved extending one of the sites, the Queens Park Hospital, to integrate all acute services into a single site. As a result, services are now provided at much greater efficiency levels and the hospital benefits from an additional 250 new beds in ward areas and 11 operating theatres and administration accommodation.

DEFENCE The defence sector is under increasing pressure to ensure safety and security. Access to vital services and infrastructure is essential in supporting armed forces operations wherever they are in the world. At the same time, pressure is also on reducing capital costs and cutting operational budgets. We understand that facilities on military establishments have different priorities to those in the civilian world. Supporting the MoD s estate across the UK Over the last 15 years we have developed a strong working relationship with the Ministry of Defence. We have an in-depth understanding of the estate and facilities requirements. We now have our four year principal support provider (PSP) framework extended to cover the south of England, in addition to Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and north and central England.

CEST Afghanistan Known as the Civilian Engineering Support Team (CEST) and based in Camp Bastion our employees work alongside the UK Works Group to help UK forces continue to operate efficiently and support Afghan authorities. The UK Works Group is a multi-disciplinary team made up of 60 Royal Engineers, who rotate in and out of Afghanistan on a six monthly basis. Together we manage and maintain the infrastructure throughout all operating bases in the country.

Basing Optimisation Programme, UK Reviewing Options This project originated from the UK s Strategic Defence and Strategy Review in October 2010 which concluded that all 20,000 troops currently based in Germany would return to the UK by 2012. Working with their partners we developed a bespoke planning and cost modelling tool, able to simulate numerous options for the rationalisation of the estate property.

Project PRIDE Crown Copyright As the project managers, we rationalised, integrated and improved the effectiveness of the Defence Intelligence Services estate on this new build intelligence services facility.

EDUCATION In our constantly changing world, the design of learning environments is increasingly important as they play a major role in preparing young people for life through the education system. We recognise this relationship and are committed to supporting education clients in implementing their vision to create learning environments that are flexible, stimulating, exciting and accessible to all. Burnley College, Lancashire We provided civil, structural and building services to the 64m Burnley College development. The former gasworks site was transformed to provide the highest quality educational facility with maximum flexibility to accommodate future expansion and potential changes to the curriculum.

University of Manchester, Core Technology Facility We were commissioned to carry out multidisciplinary engineering design duties for the 30m base build of the new Core Technology Facility at Manchester University. The Facility aims to increase the number of fast growing biotechnology, hi-tech and low carbon companies in the Northwest region as the new building provides an adaptable, high quality, scientific research facility for individual companies able to utilise the generic technical support accommodation and amenity areas which includes atriums, break-out spaces and seminar rooms.

Mountbatten Building, University of Southampton Following a catastrophic fire which destroyed an important research laboratory at the University, we were appointed as project manager to rebuild and expand the Mountbatten Complex. They recommended an incentivised target cost route which was adopted allowing for the design to be developed and costs identified simultaneously.

Bolnore Village Primary School, West Sussex This was the first school in the country to be run by a parent group. West Sussex County Council had identified the need for a new primary school and was responsible for delivering it to allow Bolnore School Group to operate. We were appointed as project manager and their innovative team ensured that a number of sustainable initiatives were introduced within the original budget.

RESIDENTIAL & COMMERCIAL As the UK population continues to grow, the need for new homes has become an urgent national priority. In response to this need, we have been working with housebuilders and developers, helping them promote and implement developments across the country. We are involved in developments at both regional and national level across the UK, spanning private residential, affordable housing, urban expansions, urban regeneration, retirement homes and student housing. Similarly with commercial developments, we have a vast amount of experience across a variety of projects having worked on office and industrial projects, covering new-build, refurbishment, fit-outs and business parks. They know that a successful commercial development must provide flexible spaces which allow you to adapt quickly to future market changes and that maximising the usable space within the physical parameters of the building is also key.

The Northern Expansion Area, Swindon We were appointed in 1995 to project manage the 10,000 home Northern sector development in Swindon. The project is almost complete, with 9,500 new homes built and occupied and a successful new sustainable community created including schools, retail and business space and a range of community and leisure facilities.

55 Baker Street, London This multi-million pound, mixed-use refurbishment of a major London landmark building comprised the redevelopment of 600,000 ft 2 of West End office accommodation. Our appointment to provide project, cost and safety management allowed the building to be transformed into a modern, dynamic complex of office space, retail and leisure space and residential space.

St George s Wharf, London Comprising primarily of residential accommodation with commercial and retail space, our involvement in a number of phases of this scheme meant their expert engineers were able to take into account the scheme location overlaying a tube station and incorporate various anti-vibration mechanics as part of this 160m development. St Stephen s Regeneration Scheme, Hull This 200m city centre redevelopment for Hull City Council and Yorkshire Forward consisted of a mixed-use retail, leisure and residential development. We provided multidisciplinary services and won the regeneration category at the RICS Award 2008.

Mann Island, Liverpool We acted as quantity surveyor and employer s agent on this mixed-use development comprising of 140,000 ft 2 office block, 390 residential units, 80,000 ft 2 retail and leisure space, 500 space basement car parking, winter garden and associated public realm. We are helping to develop an iconic hinge point between the existing Three Graces and the Albert Dock, along the Liverpool waterfront.

Lowry Galleria, Manchester We provided geo-environmental services, including ground remediation with lime stabilisation to facilitate the development of a new retail, commercial, leisure and residential development on a derelict site at Salford Quays. Visitors can now enjoy a 16 storey residential tower, designer retail outlet, nine screen cinema, health and fitness suite with swimming pool, food hall and underground car park.

JUSTICE & CUSTODIAL With security in mind, we are is aware of the problems and complications that come with working in a live prison environment or custodial facility and are experienced at working under these constraints. Having worked with HM Prison Service and The Ministry of Justice for over two decades, we has the expertise need to ensure project runs smoothly without compromise. UK HM Prison Service Framework We were appointed by HM Prison Service as one of the main consultancy partners to their Strategic Alliance Framework on an ongoing contract which involves managing their 3bn investment in the redevelopment of the Prison Estate. They are responsible for new works and maintenance of the Prison Service Estate in accordance with the Home Office Estate Strategy for Correctional Services. Core activities are supporting the client property services group in implementation of the property acquisitions and disposals programme; site planning and assessment; planning for prisons procured through PFI; land, leases and tenancy issues; estate asset valuation programme; facilities management procurement; delivery of the facilities management agenda and professional and technical advice.

Northern Ireland Prison Service, Magiligan Prison Managing the design and building programme of a new 800 cell prison at the Magilligan site in Co. Derry, involved assisting the Prison Service to develop a brief and gain approval of its business case for a new prison. we developed the programme planning and management for all phases of the project and oversaw the production.

Maximum Security State Prison, Ministry of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina Our WBIF-IPF technical team has worked closely with the MoJ s in the preparation of an operational plan, a feasibility report, preliminary designs, main and construction designs and procurement documentation to overcome the inadequacy and bring them in line with EU recommendations.

HMP Littlehey, New Category B Prison As client representative and CDM coordinator for this new 110m prison we worked with the project team to deliver resources for prisoners including educational and healthcare facilties as well as a visitor s centre.
