Tree houses can be freestanding or attached to a tree. In order to maintain the permanent health and structural integrity of the Garden s tree collection, designers must adhere to protective installation and construction guidelines. Each entry must be accompanied by an artist rendering and a plan view showing scale. Three-dimensional models are encouraged. Winning Extreme Tree Houses will be constructed by their designers in visitor-accessible locations near or under the canopy of significant trees at the Missouri Botanical Garden, including oak, tulip, elm, sweet gum, ginkgo, sycamore, Osage orange and walnut trees. Installation must take place from Apr. 15 through 28, 2011, and structures must be removed from Aug. 22 through 28, 2011.
