Aquaguard (AG22) Aquaguard is an inline water monitoring system, designed for domestic use. It is fitted immediately after the stopcock where the water supply enters the house. If water runs for a longer time than expected (adjustable), or at a greater flow rate than expected (also adjustable), or does not flow for over 24 hours (also adjustable), then the valve will close, until reset manually. 210mm Main features Battery operated or mains powered. If battery version is used the AquaGuard is powered by 4 x AA batteries. (battery life 12 months, subject to use and quality of batteries). Hand set with display on 3m cable link used for setup, battery change and diagnostics/monitoring. Can be viewed easily away from the valve and flow sensor. Maximum water flow in the household can be easily measured. Excess (trip) value is then set slightly higher. AquaGuard monitors flow every 30 seconds, hence a sheared pipe will trigger water shut off in 30 seconds maximum. Time out operates if water flows ( > 2.0L/Min ) for longer than a preset time without a break (factory set to 10 minutes, adjustable from 1 minute to 99 minutes). Water is then switched off until reset. 100mm Specification (AG22) Power Supply 6v DC or Mains Minimum Flow Holiday mode operates if water does not flow for more than 24 hours (this time is adjustable between 0 ((off)) and 127 hours). Water is then switched off until reset. System bypass available. One button press on handset and system is disabled for one hour. Allows Maximum Flow Temperature Range Medium Port Size/Thread (BSP) Material 30L/Min 0 C to 30 C Water 3/4 Plastic

Water Leak Detection Multi-zone Alarms The System The GWD range of multi-zone leak detection systems are designed to monitor for water leaks in critical and vulnerable areas such as data centres and server rooms. Available in ranges between 1 and 128 zones, the GWD uses a variety of detection devices to monitor for leaks. On detection of a water leak the panel will output an audible alarm and illuminate an LED to show which zone the leak The GWD units are available in three cabinet sizes: 1 to 8, 1 to 16 and 1 to 32 Zone cabinets. The system is based on a 'four zone master PCB' with a 'four zone slave'. This enables the GWD system to be configured for the requisite number of zones required by a specific project, or to be manufactured to the nearest multiple of four. The unit illustrated on the right is a G W D 4. The GWD system operates from standard single phase mains supply and can be supplied with optional Battery Backup Pack for 10 hours operation during a mains power failure. The System is provided with zone time-out alarm interrogation on water being detected, and on going out of alarm, to minimise false alarms. Each Zone continues to provide active water sensing throughout any Water Detected Alarm and does not go off-line or require any manual operator reset to reactivate the system. GWD 4 Zone Panel The System is provided with two Common Alarm' no-volt changeover relays which operate on water being detected by any zone. These can be linked to the Aqualeak Remote Repeater Panel, the Aqualeak Autodial Unit, or be linked into a computer based Building Management System, or can be used to shut water supplies via matched solenoid valves, or switch on sump pumps/drainage systems etc. The GWD System can also be supplied with optional Individual Zone Signalling which would provide appropriate zone alarms via individual no-volt changeover relays and Mains Power fault signalling via a further no-volt changeover relay. It is a Major Leak Detection System which covers all mains supplies both in and outside the building. It is programmable, has an audible alarm and can identify different flow rates. It also complies with BREEAM W02 as the system uses water meters with pulsed outputs and a pulse splitter that can connect to a BMS. The standard two zone WG2 system comprises a WG Control Unit with two displays marked Internal and External, connected to two pulsed output water meters. One water meter is installed at the property boundary, and one inside the building just after the stopcock. The one at the boundary will monitor for external leaks, the other for internal leaks. It is possible where the outside wall of the building forms the property boundary, a single zone (WG1) system can be used, with only one water meter. It is not a requirement of BREEAM WAT03 that the leak detection system shuts off the water supply when an alarm is triggered. It is however possible to fit a latching valve if required for pipe sizes Installation The WG Control Unit (single zone, two zone and BCCB) are wall mounted adjacent to the stopcock and require a mains power supply. The unit is linked to the water meters by a 1mm² conductor 2 core signal cable up to 50 metres, or a 2.5mm² conductor 2 core signal cable up to 100 metres. The cabling to the external water meter can be laid in the pipe trench, screening may be required if other electrical cables are in close proximity. The water meters have BSP threads up to 40mm, above which the meters have PN16 flanged connections. If valves are required, these are latching valves, available from Aqualeak, and should be installed just after the water meters. The Control Unit can also be linked to the BMS or any onward alarm system. Remote output alarms can be connected to the PCB terminals marked internal and external system. A reset relay can be used by the BMS to date stamp when the mute button is pressed (this indicates when action was taken after the system was in alarm), or it can be used to mute a remote repeater alarm. Operation The system operates by monitoring the number of pulses given out by the pulse reader attached to the water meters, this equates to the volume of water with 1 pulse being equal to 10 litres of water. The control unit is programmed to suit the occupants' requirements between 10 and 320,000 litres of water in a 30 minute period. There is a Pulse Splitter allowing pulses from the water meter to be registered at both the control unit, and the BMS. Adjustable parameters are: water volumes occupancy periods days of the week If latching valves are required, the system can then shut off the water when flow is exceeded, or at specific times of the day. Under normal conditions the control unit displays green lights: system is live system is clear On alarming, the unit displays: leak detected The system clear lamp changes to red, indicating: water detected The alarm changeover relays will activate, providing onward alarm signalling to a repeater or BMS. Pressing the 'Water On' button will mute the alarm, and return the system to normal. If it is necessary for the system to remain in alarm and valves to remain closed, the Mute button will silence the audible alarm but the system will remain in alarm mode. Once the leak has been cleared, pressing the Water On button will return the system to normal operation.

The Water Meters for BREEAM WAT02 and WAT03 The WG2 uses 2 turbine water meters with pulse readers preconnected. One of the water meters needs to go at the boundary (usually adjacent to the authority meter) and the second one goes inside the building (where the pipework first enters) just after the main stop cock. External meter adjacent to authority water meter in pit at the boundary Utilities Water Meter & Pit External Meter Valve (optional) External pipework Internal meter, usually positioned after the main stopcock. Internal Meter Valve (optional) External underground cable and pipe optional latching valve (not required for BRREEAM) Internal pipework Types of water meters: There are two different types of water meter supplied with the WG2. Sizes between 15mm diameter and 40mm diameter use a screw type meter. These meters are supplied with BSP union kits as standard. Sizes between 50mm and 200mm use a flanged type water meter. Both types have a pulse reader that has been attached during manufacture and all have an output of 1 = 10 litres of water at a pulse rate of 128 milliseconds or greater. The pulse reader attached to the screw type water meter has a fly lead with a red and black wire coming from it. The flange type meter has a fly lead with a grey and white wire. The section on connecting the system will explain where these wires are connected.

BREEAM W03 BREEAM 2011 New Construction Technical Guide PIR Water Shut-off The Problem Over time even a small water leak can accumulate losses leading to increased water consumption and in some cases, cause damage. Due to the nature of multi occupancy toilet facilities, it is not unreasonable to recognise a leak can go undetected for a significant period of time. Especially vulnerable are the valves in Cisterns that supply WCs and Urinals. Failures in these are quite common and can lead to wastage via the overflow. The System A PIR (Passive Infra Red) switch is used to control the water supply with in the washroom facility. The PIR works by detecting one infrared source (the body heat from a human) passing in front of another (the natural temperature emitted from a wall). Once a presence has been detected the state changes from open to closed across the live switch wire. Solenoid valves are installed on the water supply to each toilet area in the building. These are held in a normally closed state during non-occupancy and open to allow water flow when the PIR gets triggered. The Installation The PIR sensors are available in either ceiling recessed, ceiling surface mount (requires a back box) and wall mount configurations. Where ceiling mount sensors are used, they should be positioned so that motion is detected when somebody enters the room. Live is taken to the PIR and comes out as the Switch Wire to the valve. Following occupancy the system can be set to switch off the water supply. The length of time is set by the user anywhere between 5 seconds and 40 minutes. FloodStoppa II Water Leak Detection Single-zone Alarms The FloodStoppa II leak detection system minimises the risk of flooding should a water leak occur. It uses direct sensing to determine the presence of water and when detected switches off the water preventing further ingress. Typically used for domestic and smaller commercial/industrial applications such as tea points, the FloodStoppa II is a cost effective solution to preventing leaks. Main Features include: Monitors for the presence of water and outputs an alarm. Links to latching solenoid valve requiring a 10 millisecond 12 volt pulse from the FloodStoppa II (15mm and 22mm available). Valve operated automatically every 29 days as part of regular maintenance. On detection of an alarm the FloodStoppa II can be muted and the valve remains closed. If the mute button isn t pressed with in 19 minutes period the sounder will stop to comply with noise abatement laws. The principle of water leak detection involves charging up an end of line capacitor and measuring the discharge rate against time. If water is present the capacitor will lose energy quicker and it is this that the FloodStoppa II processes. If a leak is detected and the valve closes, an LED will show this. Pressing the mute button will silence the alarm, pressing it again will toggle the sounder back on. After the leak has

Water Leak Prevention AquaBlock The AquaBlock is a basic anti-flood device for use on individual appliances such as washing machines, dish washers and vending machines. It requires no specialist knowledge or tools to install and works completely mechanically, so no electrical power is required. The AquaBlock has a 3/4 BSP male and female connection and goes onto the water feed to the appliance or machine. Water passes through the unit rotating a mechanical water turbine. It works by measuring the quantity of water passing through it. The AquaBlock is set to suit the application between 5 and 50 litres (manually adjusted). In the event that water continues to flow beyond this pre-set limit it is automatically switched off. As long as the use of water does not exceed the pre-set limit during any one period of flow, the unit will automatically reset and be ready to monitor water usage the next time water is required. DWD Domestic Water Leak Detection The DWD can protect your home from potential water flood damage by placing it anywhere a potential water leak exists - near or beneath a sump pump, plumbing, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, sink, water heater, toilet, basements and garages when the probe comes in contact with water an audible Easy Install and Operation To install the sensor, extract the wire (the sensor is located at the end of this wire), remove the self adhesive protector on the back of the sensor head and secure to the wall or skirting board ensuring that the two metal probes are slightly proud of the floor. The height of the sensor head from the floor will determine the level of water present before an alarm is heard. For a more secure fixing use a small screw through the middle of the sensor head.
