Calipers
Medium Duty Caliper Core Grading Processes and Procedures 40
To receive full caliper core credit, the core must be in rebuildable condition and complete. No core credit will be issued if any of the following conditions exist: Damage to the caliper body including threaded ports, piston bores and slide pin holes Damaged, bent or broken caliper bodies Excessive rust or corrosion Calipers are Good or Scrap there is no longer a 1-part damage. 41
ACCEPT OR REJECT It is ok if the caliper cores have broken bleeders & bolts. We have perfected the removal technique for removing these broken bleeders & bolts but if the threads are stripped out of the casting then the core should be scrapped. 42
REJECT If the inlet boss (machined area of the casting where the inlet or bleeder is threaded) is dented or damaged casting then the core should be scrapped. 43
REJECT Anything beyond mild surface corrosion, the core should be scrapped. 44
Group 22 Class 49 Excessive Corrosion = Scrap
REJECT If the piston bore is galled, dented, or otherwise has damage that cannot be repaired by honing then the core should be scrapped. Caliper piston bores cannot be bored out like compressors! The piston can be missing. We accept cores without the pistons since they are replaced with new. Most medium duty calipers use phenolic pistons that are 100% replaced with new. 46
REJECT Scored by Rotor Scoring beyond light superficial scratches left by interference with the rotor or other debris requires that the core be scrapped. 47
REJECT Scored by Wheel Scoring beyond light superficial scratches left by interference with the rotor, wheel or other debris requires that the core be scrapped. 48
REJECT We do not braise, weld or otherwise attempt to repair cracked castings. All of these methods are inferior. Any cracks require the to core be scrapped. 49
REJECT We do not braise, weld or otherwise attempt to re-attach broken pieces to a casting. All of these methods are inferior. Any broken castings require the to core be scrapped. 50
We do not braise, weld or otherwise attempt to re-attach broken pieces to a casting. All of these methods are inferior. Any broken castings require the to core be scrapped. REJECT 51
REJECT We do not braise, weld or otherwise attempt to repair damaged guide pin holes in castings. All of these methods are inferior. Any damage like this requires the to core be scrapped. 52
REJECT Sometimes cores have been modified, drilled, and tapped new bleeder or inlet holes to replace those with broken ones. Any damage like this requires the to core be scrapped. 53
REJECT FROZEN BOLT If bolts are frozen in and not removable without damaging the casting, the core is unusable, Any damage like this requires the to core be scrapped. 54
