WDI Dream Committee 2017 Park(ing) Day Wilmington North Carolina Friday, September 15, 2017 11:00 to 5:00 pm Park(ing) Day returns to the Port City on Friday, September 15th from 11:00am to 5:00pm. The purpose of this annual event is to re-imagine parking spaces for use by people instead of cars with the goal of animating and enhancing the urban environment for just one day. Set up can start as early as at 8:00 am with parking spaces reserved for the full day. Each organization will pay WDI a small $12 fee to cover the cost of the parking meter for the day and then design and decorate their space with a small park or other display to highlight communitybuilding efforts. Each parking space is about 8 x 20 and can be set up to create a park-like setting with artificial lawns, trees and shrubs, tables, chairs, posters and other creative displays. In years past, WDI has worked with Lowes Home Center on College Avenue, Tinga Nursery, and Transplanted Garden to help set up plants for the spaces. WDI encourages organizations to make their own arrangements to decorate their space and promote their mission and staff. Park(ing) Day is an international event, always held on the third Friday of September. It started about 12 years ago in San Francisco. A brief description of the event can be seen at the website shown below: http://parkingday.org/about-parking-day/ Shown below are images from Park(ing) Day in other locations across the country. Other examples of Parking space (Parks) can be seen at: https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=parking+day+images&id=b8b81d3511cb21aa88c1351ace891a1591d3 9036&FORM=IQFRBA Park(ing) Day: Park somewhere USA Park(ing) Day: Concept Make a park from a parking space one day a year

The cost to each organization will be limited to $12.00 paid to WDI to cover the cost of the parking space for the day. Payments must be made to WDI prior to the day of the event.
