Why should you opt for ENTHALPY Wheels for your AHUs (Air Handling Units) & ERVs (Energy Recovery Ventilators) from

Benefits of an ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator) over a HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilator)

IEQ Indoor Environment Quality Indoor Environment or Quality of Indoor Air i.e. Invironment impacts comfort Health productivity and perception of quality of the space cannot be ignored any longer. IEQ norms world wide requires more ventilation of conditioned space. HRVs are installed to provide the required ventilation. However, they are not really able to meet IEQ needs....... why so?

Why ERVs and not HRVs? Energy Vs. (Latent + Sensible Vs. Heat Only Sensible) Increased ventilation results in high humidity levels (a side effect), especially in tropical countries... where latent loads are 2-3 times the sensible load Increase in the latent load tremendously. Thus, air-conditioning equipment is unable to handle the situation resulting in increased humidity levels.... design of mould and mildew growth. Mould & mildew growth is directly related to the level of humidity inside the conditioned space. Thus, maintenance of the right level of humidity is of paramount importance.

Optimum Humidity Ranges Decreased in Bar Width Indicate Decrease in Effect Optimum Zone Bacteria Viruses Fungi Mites Respiratory infections* Allergic Rhinitis and Asthma Chemical Interactions Ozone Production 10 *Insufficient data above 50% R.H. Source: Sterling: ASHRAE 1985. 20 30 40 50 60 70 Percent Relative Humidity 80 90

Relative Humidity Guidelines Relative Humidity Level Description 0% - 30% Most fungi will not grow at these humidities. 40% - 55% Optimal Building Humidity for all parts of the occupied space, chases, dropped ceilings, plenums and behind drywall. 60% - 70% Approaching optimal range of humidity for growth; mold growth likely in such areas. > 70% Optimal humidity levels for most fungal growth. > 90% Typical humidity level downstream of cooling coils during cooling season without reheat. (Unavoidable tempering condition due to cooling process. Mixing and off cycles restore RH to acceptable levels.)

Benefits of ERVs over HRVs Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs) recover both sensible and latent loads An ERV, exchanges the contaminated room air with fresh outdoor air, in the process recovering the energy from the exhaust air stream. The ERV consists of two blowers and an energy recovery device. The two blowers run continuously to exhaust the room air and replace it with an equal amount of fresh outdoor air. The energy recovery device exchanges energy between the two counter flowing exhaust and supply air streams pickings up the sensible or both sensible and latent heat from the cooler air stream and transferring to the warmer air stream or vice versa depending on the conditions. Helps Designers, contractors, building owners and operators to meet IAQ Standard ASHRAE 62 and conserve energy Enable ASHRAE 62 specified ventilation rates without increasing air-conditioning tonnage Reduces the CAPITAL AND OPERATING COST of air-conditioning equipment Ideal for new construction or retrofit applications Meets space limitation requirements/ (could be installed in the false ceiling area) Helps maintain right humidity levels despite increased ventilation rates.

Benefits of ERVs over HRVs...... Contd. Benefits of ERV using rotary Energy Recovery Wheels Worldwide industry is opting for equipment with better sensible and latent efficiencies as Controls excess humidity without over-drying an interior space Provides more ventilation in cold weather Eliminates core condensation and significant frost formation in virtually all applications Is a year- round system that makes sense in both cold weather and hot, humid weather since It can influence humidity in order to prevent excessively dry indoor air in the winter and excessively humid indoor air in the summer Recovers humidity maintained in the space through a humidifier Has higher sensible and latent efficiencies leading to saving of cooling and heating costs Has negligible cross-over of air from supply to exhaust side due to addition of a purge section

The core of the ERV - Enthalpy Recovery) Wheel (Energy The Enthalpy (Energy Recovery) Wheel also has the additional advantage of being the only unit to deliver latent transfer efficiently. With the fresh air load patterns being highly latent in nature and also, that there is a need to maintain a lower humidity in the conditioned space, the focus is on an energy recovery ventilator with enthalpy wheel. The enthalpy wheel is perfectly suited to help control humidity. In summer when the outside is hot and humid the enthalpy wheel is able to cool and dehumidify the incoming fresh air and in winter when it cold and dry outside it is able to heat and humidify.

Enthalpy Wheels... Contd. The enthalpy wheels with low first cost and maximum energy savings combine to give an extremely low payback. With the help of enthalpy wheels one can easily down size the installed air-conditioning equipment and can also result in negative pay back in many cases. Other advantages: Increases the SHF making it simple for cooling coil to handle the thermal load Would mean higher ADPs hence higher CHW temperatures. Low row deeps of cooling coils Avoid re-heat.

Benefits of using enthalpy wheels ARI and Eurovent certified wheels DRI can assist you in the design and development of units using our small size wheels Rotors have high density of desiccant and hence are favorable in size vs. performance ratios Strong Research and Development teams Produced in a world class manufacturing facility In-house coating facility thus maintenance of tight process parameters Ability to make any combination of Diameter, depths, flute geometry and to customers design/specifications if required Highly polished rotor surface minimizes leakages through seals Can provide the complete cassette cutting down on customers expensive labor hours
