Rigid furniture is the traditional type of furniture, available in many materials and finishes, and adaptable to any size of kitchen. Flat pack furniture is a more recent development. Its main characteristics are cheapness and ease of transport, as it is presented in a completely disassembled state. During the review period, the data shows that the Spanish market is dominated by rigid kitchen furniture, both in terms of market value and market volume. Rigid furniture possesses finer finishes than those of flat pack furniture, whose main market tends to be for renovation work or replacement. This market is characterised by the higher quality of products, as it is hard to find flat-pack furniture via kitchen showrooms or small specialist outlets focused on the medium-to-high range. The most widely used material is melamine, due to it being the material most demanded by the construction industry. When it comes to a cheap, durable, resistant material, the residential dwelling construction industry puts the most trust in kitchens made from this material. The increase in the use of plastics as a façade material was considerable during the review period. This is very much a recent development, but thanks to its resistance and durability, and the wide range of design possibilities it offers, it has been very well received by the construction market and its use increased strongly during the review period.
