Energy Efficiency: A Knowledge leader As regulations change and the industry shifts to new standards, UL Lighting Sciences will be there. Vital for most manufacturers is ensuring their products have been LM-79 tested, and ready for compliance with energy efficiency program standards. Energy Efficiency For solid-state lighting luminaires: UL Lighting Sciences can test to any of the program s 18 different performance characteristics including but not limited to luminaire efficacy, zonal lumen density, color rendering index, color spatial uniformity, etc. Not all luminaires need to be subjected to all 18 tests. If you have LM-80 data, you are required to test only for Component Performance Lumen Maintenance and an In-Situ Temperature Measurement Test. With no LM-80 data, you ll need luminaire performance testing of 13 more criteria taking an average of eight months. For LED Lamps: UL Lighting Sciences can assist in testing to any of the energy efficiency program s 23 different criteria, including but not limited to color rendering index, luminous intensity distribution, power factor, etc. Earning energy efficiency recognition for a lamp is similar to a luminaire except about 30 lamp samples are required and the entire testing program takes over eight months. UL Lighting Sciences has the expertise to keep you moving through the verification process quickly so that you are prepared for certification. Light Measurement (LM)-79 LM-79 is a testing procedure written by the Illuminating Engineering Society. The LM-79 test allows product performance to be verified and is one of the most common tests performed by UL Lighting Sciences. The LM-79 testing procedure requires laboratories to use a Type C goniophotometer for luminous intensity distribution. Our LM-79 test report consists of a photometric test that includes lumens, efficacy and luminous intensity distribution. It also includes a color test with CCT, CRI, etc., and some electrical tests.
Quality assurance and R&D professionals can look to UL Lighting Sciences for comprehensive energy efficiency program expertise.

The 6400T Goniophotometer: unrivaled Precision and Performance Three decades of continuous design refinements, software development, and customer experience resulted in our development of the High Speed Moving Mirror Goniophotometer Series 6400T the gold standard of the lighting industry. The innovative Moving Mirror Goniophotometer Series 6400T delivers precise results quickly, no matter what type of lamp or luminaire test may be required. State-of-the-art computer hardware, coupled with sophisticated data collection and analysis software, provides a fully automated test system that is flexible to meet your needs. This means you receive faster, higher quality, and more accurate results. The Illuminating Engineering Society called the Series 6400T a unique and significant advancement to the art and science of lighting. This recognition reflects the fact that the Series 6400T incorporates a triple amplifier system that automatically optimizes amplifier sensitivity for all different intensity ranges during a test. The performance of the Moving Mirror Goniophotometer Series 6400T is dramatically fast. The triple amplifier and electronic channels developed for the Series 6400T enable lighting laboratories to run an entire indoor photometric test in less than five minutes, without manual intervention or concern for the accuracy of low-end intensity measurements. Data collection occurs at a rate of 18,000 readings per second, allowing the mirror to rotate at four rotations per minute or faster throughout the entire test. Our energy efficiency one page compliance report summary indicates a simple pass/fail for each specified test enabling anyone with only a little photometric knowledge to understand the test results in seconds. With truly unequaled speed, precision and functionality, UL Lighting Science s photometric equipment is the most sophisticated available today. Most major American lamp manufacturer have acquired our goniophotometers, and they are used in most major countries around the world.
An extremely strong steel framework allows the safe attachment of heavy luminaires Precision digital drives provide unrivaled accuracy Mirror rotates around luminaire, which remains at a fixed height during testing, eliminating errors due to thermal effects in laboratory for temperature sensitive lamps such as fluorescents and LEDs Luminaire hard-wire power connections eliminate wear and electrical resistance errors inherent with slip-ring systems Luminaire mounting system lowers to average chest height avoids hazardous stepladder operations Compliant with all applicable requirements of IES LM-79-08 for LED luminaire testing for U.S. Dept. of Energy and EPA High-speed data collection needs only a fraction of the time required by competitive systems Unmatched software selection for any test situation with the convenience of using the test data with nearly any design and analysis software High-quality construction delivers years of trouble-free performance Signal Maximizer circuitry with three amplifiers enhances system sensitivity, dynamic range and accuracy 16-bit analog-to-digital converters Preprogrammed computer system options avoid error-prone operator inputs Automatic dark current compensation reduces errors, boosts accuracy Rotating aperture mask in front of photo detector allows only light from the mirror to enter room reflections are almost entirely eliminated
