CITY OF BROOKFIELD FIRE DEPARTMENT ALWAYS PREPARED: PROVIDING THE LEVEL OF CARE YOU NEED Ambulance Transports 2017 106 481 959 869 ALS BLS No Transport On Scene Care EMS calls make up almost 70% of our call volume. This shows our ambulance transports by type. Patients are classified Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Basic Life Support (BLS) depending on the type of care they required during transport. Our staff is always ready to provide Advanced Life Support (ALS). Some patients need this level of care while others only require Basic Life Support (BLS). 11

CITY OF BROOKFIELD FIRE DEPARTMENT PREPAREDNESS OVER TIME Looking back, our department was staffed primarily by Firefighters/EMTs trained to provide Basic Life Support (BLS). However, over time, our department has transitioned into one that provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) as well because of having more trained Paramedics on staff. Since 1996, we have had 43 people serve as paramedics. Historically: In 1985, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), became part of the Fire Department. Ten years later, in 1995, nine department FF/EMTs completed 22 weeks of intensive paramedic training. 1996 was the first year of paramedicstaffed ambulance service. 12
