THE BASIC PACKS The ambihome home automation system follows a modular concept: The starter pack ambibasic offers full control over the complete illumination, also via visualisation on mobile devices, tablets and PC s. The variant ambicomfort contains the three basic functions of intelligent living. It includes control of the illumination and shading (shutters, blinds) as well as the adjustment of room temperature within the entire building. The ambicomfortplus Pack contains additional multi sensors for motion, temperature, brightness and humidity capture in the room. Due to the multi sensors, the system knows the state of each room connected and can carry out corresponding actions such as controlling light and shutters in accordance with room utilisation or setting up alarms. The ambihome system uses the standardised bus systems KNX, DALI and SMI. The use of decentralised bus technology is not just a significant reduction of wiring efforts in comparison with standardised electrical installation but also guarantees reliable functionality of the overall system as well as the integration of components from third party manufacturers - also in the long term. This system was specifically developed for residential housing construction and it allows to link so-called insular solutions (shading, illumination, heating and alarm systems). The price for the comfortable ambihome home control system is only slightly higher compared to conventional electronic installations. THE PROJECT COURSE WITH AMBIHOME The ambihome system is characterised by its simplicity. The intelligent home auto mation can be set up in just a few steps. The only requirement that you as an electrician for the planning of the ambihome system, is an internet browser on your laptop, tablet or home computer. Programming skills are not required. SIMPLE PLANNING, ORDERING & DELIVERY OF THE AMBIHOME COMPONENTS 1 PLANNING BY THE ELECTRICAL INSTALLER 2 AUTOMATIC QUOTATION BY EMAIL AND ORDER CONFIRMATION The ambihome planning tool is the basis for the entire project. The electric installer uses our easy-to-handle online tool, which is provided free of charge by ambihome, in order to plan the respective home automation project and to place the final order. Within the planning tool, the electrician can create any number of rooms and floors, adds the desired actuators (e. g. lights, blinds, switchable outlets) and subsequently links them with the sensors (e. g. push-buttons, switching points, multi sensors, reed contacts). All links can be changed at any time. Simple project management with the ambihome online planning tool: Our online tool does not only stand for simplified planning by entering the desired functions, but is the basis for your entire project. Our quotation, the project-related installation instructions, as well as the functional specifications are also automatically generated through the planning tool. After completion of the planning, the electrical installer automatically receives the quotation via e-mail. This quotation includes the overall system price and a listing of all required system components. In addition, the electrical installer can use the planning tool to create an individual quotation for his client or contractor - a complimentary service of ambihome. In conclusion, the electrical installer checks and confirms the quotation and subsequently receives an order confirmation. 8

3 DELIVERY OF THE FULLY INTEGRATED AND TESTED AUTOMATION SYSTEM 4 INSTALLATION AND COMMISSIONING VIA PLUG & PLAY After receipt of your order, ambihome takes care of the complete programming and packaging for all components the individual system requires. Following this, the system is fully tested and shipped alongside a detailed and project-related installation guide at your desired date. The ambihome system components package: The package* contains the ready-to-use und fully tested components as well as the project-related installation manual. The installation instructions are used as a guide to install the individually labeled components at the designated locations of the house. Afterwards, they are ready for immediate use. The entire ambihome technology is behind the push-buttons and can therefore be used with switch programmes of any manufacturer or simply via the visualisation on your smart phone, tablet or home computer, which is included with all our basic packs. * NOT included in the package: wires, push-buttons and electrical installation material. 9

THE SYSTEM COMPONENTS OF AMBIHOME Connection of: Push-button Window opening contact At the development of ambihome components, simplicity takes center stage: Easy handling of components during installation. As many basic functions as possible is one unit, in order to keep the number of devices and thus the price of the overall system as low as possible. Consistent use of the bus concept, meaning that sensors and actuators are being used, where they are actually required and not centralised in a distribution cabinet. Each and every component is delivered with individually inscribed labels including a reference to the installation point (e. g. Playroom Noah, Switching point at the door ). KNX PUSH-BUTTON INTERFACE The ambihome KNX push-button interface is characterised by its compactness, which allows to use it in in-wall housing behind the buttons or at windows and doors. As an interface for connection of buttons and windows opening contacts, it recognises which key is being pressed, for which time period this happens or whether a window is opened or not. Up to eight different ports can be managed from one switch interface. Differently coloured wires support the quick and easy installation. It offers the full functionality required for standard households. In order to control the illumination, the pack contains two actuators of 10A each, meaning that two lighting circuits can be regulated. At the same time, the multi module contains the entire functionality of the ambihome KNX push-button interface (see description on the left hand side). Even temperature sensors or a thermostat for heating circuit control in a specific room can be connected to the multi module. In case a temperature sensor is being used, the heating circuit can be controlled and regulated using the visualisation. If desired, a thermostat can be connected additionally in case the end user wishes to control the heating circuit without using the visualisation. Despite offering plenty of functions, the multi module remains small and compact - it is supposed to be placed in standard flush-mounted wall boxes. The ambihome KNX multi sensor allows the unobtrusive coverageof temperature, motion, brightness and humidity in a room due to its minimalist and flat appearance. Furthermore, the multi sensor contains an input for fire and flame detectors. Placed in a central position within the respective room or other functional area, it captures different states and communicates with other components. As the sensor technology is being developed constantly, the multi sensor is designed for quick and easy exchange if required. THE INSTALLATION OF THE AMBIHOME SYSTEMS The idea of the ambihome system: Minimum installation efforts at most comfortable assembly throughout all construction phases. From the quick and uncomplicated wiring up to the actual installation of the ready-to-use components with a detailed manual - The electrical installer comfortably keeps the ambihome installation under control at all times. The ambihome system can be used immediately after installation and can thus be operated by the end user via the system s visualisation. THE WIRING KEEP IT SIMPLE The wiring of the ambihome system is held consequently simple. Amongst other things, we refrain from using cross circuits and two-way connections, which makes the bus technology quicker and easier to wire than conventional electrical installations. With the ambihome KNX wiring, the components are consecutively connected to a bus line allowing them to communicate with each other and share information. The simplicity can be displayed with the example of the ambihome push-button interface: Due to ambihome KNX wiring, no consumer (e. g. ceiling light) is directly connected to a push-button but is being managed and controlled via a so called push-button interface. This interface is being used behind the actual push-button and connected to the KNX bus line. Up to eight different push-buttons and ports can be managed from one single interface. It detects once a button is being pushed and sends the respective information to all components involved. THE SYSTEM INSTALLATION CHECKLIST Important installation advise for the electrical installer at a glance: GENERAL INFORMATION Read the instruction manual carefully. Order SMI motors for shading systems. SHELL CONSTRUCTION STAGE Allow for one ceiling installation or connection box per multi sensor. Installation opening Ø 60 mm (e. g. Kaiser 1260-50 or 1265-50). Allow for one connection box with light hook for each universal lighting outlet (e. g. Kaiser 1265-50). Allow for installation boxes with transformer tunnel for light fittings operated with transformers or ballasts. WIRING STAGE KNX wire to every switching point and every multi sensor. 5-core NYM cable to every lighting point (DALI bus-wiring). 5-core cable to shading motors (SMI bus-wiring). 14

EQUIPMENT RECOMMENDATION Do not use compact fluorescent lamps (CFL, energy-savers), especially not while being used with dimmers. Also CFL lamps marked dimmable should not be avoided. In case LED lamps are being used with dimmers please refer to the compatibility table. Not all LED lamps marked as being dimmable can be dimmed smoothly! 15

THE AMBIHOME BASIS The ambihome system is based on decentralised bus technology. Decentralised means that each and every component has its own intelligence and communicates with all other components consecutively wired to it, via just one single bus wire. This results in highly reduced wiring effort for the electrical installer compared to the centralised electrical installation used with most other home automation systems, where every consumer, push-button and sensor has to be centrally wired and connected up to the actual switch cabinet. We are using the follow ing bus system for our intelligent home automation system: KNX EIB SMI Standard Motor Interface DALI Digital Adressable Lighting Interface The KNX bus integrates the sensor technology. Up to eight different push-button states can be monitored via one push-button interface, which is installed in a flush-mounted box behind a button insert. It is also possible to add reed contacts (door and window opening contacts). In case a multi sensor is being installed in a room, it is being used to capture: SMI is a standardised interface for drives with an integrated, electronic circuit for decentralised control of: Motor-driven blinds Awnings Shutters The DALI bus is being used for lighting control. Conventional DALI ballasts (e. g. from OSRAM) are required for low-voltage halogen lights (e. g. 12 V). Dimmable lamps (LED, etc.) are controlled via the ambihome DALI dimmer. By means of the ambihome DALI switch actuator, various loads up to 16 A can be coped with. Brightness Temperature Humidity Motion in the room In addition to that, the multi sensor comes with an alarm insert for fire detectors. 16

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Does the system allow the integration of KNX components from other manufacturers? The ambihome system is a high-quality KNX system which means that all our components can be used with other products available on the market. These additional components can be integrated either by yourself or ambihome can do it for you. How can the programming of components be changed after installation? KNX databases are available for all our components. You will receive the entire ETS project alongside the delivery of the system. Is it mandatory to use DALI for lighting control? No, the lighting system can also be controlled via KNX switch or dim actuators. Is it necessary to use SMI motors in order to control shutters or blinds? No, the shading system can also be controlled via KNX actuators. Is a device/terminal for the visualisation supplied with the system? The system contains a web-based visualisation which can be used with common devices (e. g. tablets, smart phones or computers). 17

QUICK & EASY All functions can be controlled quickly and easily with a maximum of only two clicks. READY TO USE The visualisation of the ambihome home control system is generated automatically and available immediately at startup. SECURE CONNECTION Via a secure VPN connection, the user has the ability to access the system at any given time and from wherever he/she wants. In addition, the VPN connection permits remote maintenance by ambihome, if desired by the customer. PRICE THE COST-COMFORT CURVE The ambihome system in direct comparison: The higher the comfort, the cheaper it gets. KNX installation In a direct comparison of costs and comfort, the ambihome system quickly becomes more favourable than previous electrical installations. This already goes for minor additional comfort (e. g. central function for shading systems). Rule of thumb here: The more complex the requirements, the cheaper the ambihome system gets compared to conventional installations. conventional installation The installation of the ambihome system is quicker and easier ( i. a. no laborious cross circuits and two-way connections). Due to bus technology, fewer cables and wires are to be laid.
