Background Africa is implementing both 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063 2030 Agenda is the global framework for achieving sustainable development in its three dimensions -economic, social and environmental-in a balanced manner; Agenda 2063 adopted in 2013 by the African Heads of State is a strategic regional framework for inclusive growth and sustainable development in Africa, and a strategy to optimize the use of the continent s resources for the benefit of all Africans. It has a Ten Year Implementation Plan of Agenda 2063 (2014-2023) Both 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063: Reflect the Common African Position on the Post-2015 Agenda (CAP) as they have been informed by Africa s development priorities and aspirations contained in the CAP.
ECA s support to the implementation of the SDGs and Agenda 2063 ECA s support falls under four broad areas: 1. Data collection and analysis 2. Technical support, advisory services and capacity development 3. Development of knowledge products, facilitating sharing, South-South and triangular cooperation 4. Reporting and follow up support on the implementation of SDGs and Agenda 2063.
1. Data collection and analysis
Methodological support: Development of a Regional Indicator Framework for the monitoring and reporting of SDGs and Agenda 2063 to allow a coherent approach to implementation, monitoring and evaluation as well as efficient reporting on both agenda. Coordination of Africa s input to SDGs & Mapping of SDGs and Agenda 2063 Methodological Work on different SDG tiers III Indicators Survey on the Availability of Economic Indicators on the SDGs in Africa Promotion of open data principles Evaluating African countries statistical systems
Development of Technical Material: - Handbook on the Integrated Regional Indicator Framework of Agenda 2030 and Agenda 2063: Concepts and Definitions - Ensuring effective participation of African countries in the Africa 2020 census round. - Online toolkit on Gender - Publication of Selected SDG indicators in the African Statistical Yearbook - Introducing an African Data Revolution to address increased demand for data
2. Technical support, advisory services and capacity development
- Technical support to address key issues into national plans such as : land policy; modern bioenergy development; youth; harnessing the potential of urbanization; addressing the impact of migration; development of SMEs.. - Development of a toolkit to support countries better integrate Agenda 2030 and 2063 in their national planning frameworks - Training in areas such as industrial policy formulation; gender equality; - Facilitating high level policy dialogues, global advocacy and capacity support on issues such as investments for the implementation of the 16 transboundary infrastructure projects; - Technical and policy oriented research and advice on matters such as climate change, blue economy, management lf natural resources.
3. Development of knowledge products, facilitating sharing, South-South and triangular cooperation
ECA as a knowledge based organization generates knowledge in the the form of studies, reports, policy briefs, policy dialogues and publications on economic, social and environmental issues, including: V- Training and capacity Building - Good governance - Industrialization - Development planning - Macro-economic policies - Sectoral policies - Urbanization - Population dynamics - Social inclusion - Gender - Climate change - Regional integration - Infrastructure
4. Reporting and follow up to the implementation of SDGs and Agenda 2063

In conclusion: V- Training and capacity Building ECA contributes to all 17 GOALs of the sustainable development agenda and coordinates overall progress and reporting in Africa Its contribution relies also on a vast spectrum of partners at regional, sub regional and national levels Most of this contribution would not have been possible without the support we got from you member States as well as the African Union Commission and our sisters organizations of the United Nations system most of whom are represented here Its contribution covers a vast array of activities ranging from the design of compliant development plans, implementation, reporting and follow up of national planning frameworks to the development of knowledge products to inform policy action in Africa. We have provided examples of our institutional contribution and look forward to continue collaborating with you in ensuring No One is Left Behind in our continent.
