District Design Guidelines - Cultural District The Cultural District is the entertainment and cultural center of Overland Park, anchored by the American Museum of Natural History and Cinetopia, a state of the art cinema/dining concept. Dining and entertainment venues in both single and multi-tenant buildings, supported by structured parking, line a pedestrian-oriented street that is designed to support social activity. Public open spaces, artwork and lush landscaping provide important focal points that are framed by the surrounding buildings. The heart of the Cultural District is the pedestrian street environment that is anchored on the west by Cinetopia and animated for its entire length by restaurants and a variety of outdoor dining and event spaces. The Museum will occupy a very appropriate location on the edge of the Wetlands. While the streets provide easy access by automobile, the quality of the pedestrian s experience will have priority over the driver s. The atmosphere will be fun, lively and visitor-friendly. Informal natural spaces and varied building designs celebrate the diversity of the district s food offerings. 1. Building massing shall be appropriate to location on the site. Pedestrian zones should have appropriate scale and frontages facing busy traffic should have sufficient size to promote visibility. 2. The American Museum of Natural History will reflect its status as the cultural focal point of Prairiefire. Its signature design will create a unique identity and establish it as a landmark building within both Prairiefire and Overland Park. 3. Cinetopia lobby will be located at the intersection of Prairiefire Boulevard and the main entrance to Prairiefire. The lobby and bar/ dining area will have transparent glazing where they face outward. 4. The parking structure will have retail/restaurant space lining the north side at street level. The elevator and stair system will be designed for a dramatic and safe entrance to the street level environment. The upper levels will be embellished with decorative murals to screen views into the garage as well as to contribute to the festive atmosphere of the Cultural District. 5. Restaurant building designs will reflect the variety of dining options available to the guests. 6. Highly textured surfaces are encouraged. 7. Screen walls shall be of textured masonry or split-face CMU 8. Storefronts facing West 135th shall have a minimum height of 12. 9. Where windows into the stores are not practical, Building Embellishments, such as murals, decorative grilles, trellises, or similar, will be provided, 10. A variety of awning designs is encouraged. 40 Prairiefire at Lionsgate - Design Guidelines 11/26/2012

building embellishments Fabric-panel murals will be applied to the exterior walls of the parking structure. Fabric panels are perforated to allow for 40% free-area ventilation and will be printed with artwork appropriate to Prairiefire. Images may be projected on the north side of the structure during the evening. 46 Prairiefire at Lionsgate - Design Guidelines 11/26/2012

Lighting Lighting will be designed to create more active and enjoyable environment, suitable to an entertainment district. Lighting at the street environment will be more playful, with varied light levels and enhanced lighting at plaza areas. Building mounted lighting will vary among different restaurants with the individual designs chosen to complement each establishment. Specimen trees will be illuminated; typical street trees will not be lit. Lighting adjacent to the residential district will be more subdued and spillage of street lighting into that district will be minimized. Prairiefire at Lionsgate - Design Guidelines 11/26/2012 47
