VC73004MUK Rev.qxp_Instruction Book 15/04/016 13:8 Page Health and Safety The use of any electrical appliance requires the following common sense safety rules. Please read these instructions carefully before using the product. WARNING: Whenever the cleaner is in use, due to the risk of entrapment in rotating parts, keep loose clothing, hair, fingers etc. away from the brush bar and floorhead. WARNING: Disconnect from the mains supply and remove the floorhead before carrying out any routine maintenance, such as cleaning any blockages, changing any filters or accessing the floor nozzle. This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be undertaken by children without supervision. Personal safety WARNING: Only lift the product by the handle (1) and never pick the cleaner up by the floorhead. WARNING: Misuse could cause potential injury. To prevent accidental contact with the rotating brush, always remove the floorhead before fitting, removing or cleaning the motorised floor brush (10). Never use in the presence of explosive liquid or vapours. Never pick up inflammable or poisonous liquids such as petrol, copier toner or other volatile substances. Never pick up acids, asbestos or asbestos dust. Never touch the adaptor, product or cable with wet hands. Unprofessional repairs can be dangerous for users. To protect against fire, electric shock and personal injury, do not immerse cord, plug, charger or cleaner in water or other liquid. The appliance must never be left running unsupervised. Location Do not use or keep this product outside. Do not store the appliance near hot surfaces eg. ovens or heating appliances. Product safety This appliance is not intended for liquid/wet pick up. Never use the appliance without the filter being installed. Never use the appliance to vacuum hot ashes, broken glass, sharp objects or liquids. Never modify the cleaner in any way. VC73004MUK Rev.qxp_Instruction Book 15/04/016 13:8 Page 4 Assembly 1 Charging A B 1 For packaging purposes, the handle (1) is not assembled to the vacuum cleaner body (3) but is permanently electrically connected via a curly cable. Take care not to overstretch the curly cable. To assemble the handle, locate the bottom of the handle into the recess in the vacuum cleaner body and press down until the handle clicks into place. Only if the product needs to be repacked should there be a need to remove the handle. This can be achieved by locating a flat-blade screwdriver into the hole on the back of the vacuum cleaner body A, to release the catch and gently lever the handle up whilst gently pulling on the handle to remove. Again, take care not to overstretch the curly cable whilst removing or repackaging. Place the motorised floor brush (10) on a level surface and align the connector on the neck of the motorised floor brush with the connector hole on the base of the vacuum cleaner body (3). Holding the neck of the motorised floor brush in place, lower the vacuum cleaner body onto the motorised floor brush until you hear the two pieces click into place. When attaching the motorised floor brush, ensure that the latching mechanism is fully locked in place to ensure electrical connection is made and the floorhead is secure. To remove the floorhead, gently press the floorhead release button (9) B whilst pulling on the floorhead to remove. WARNING: Never hold the floorhead in the motorised floor brush area. 1 Insert the charger (11) into the charging inlet (8) on the back of the vacuum cleaner body (3). Plug the charger into a mains outlet. The indicator light (4) will glow red whilst charging and turn green when fully charged. A full charge may take 8 hours. The product can be charged at any time. We recommend that the product is charged after each use. The product cannot be used whilst on charge. 4

VC73004MUK Rev.qxp_Instruction Book 15/04/016 13:8 Page 5 Vacuum cleaning 1 Turn the product on by pressing the on/off button (). The power indicator light (4) will illuminate green. When the vacuum cleaner needs to be charged, the product will automatically stop and the power indicator light will extinguish. The battery must then be recharged. If the motorised floor brush (10) is stalled, eg. by a foreign object or if used on very deep pile carpet, switch off, remove the cause of the stall, and leave for a few minutes to allow the floorhead protection to self reset. WARNING: Always remove the floorhead before attempting any maintenance. To remove the floorhead, gently press the floorhead release button (9) whilst pulling on the floorhead to remove. WARNING: Never hold the floorhead in the motorised floor brush area. 3 4 Turn the motorised floor brush (10) over to inspect the brush bar. Using a coin, turn the locking button on the brush bar cover anti-clockwise from the position to the position. Remove the brush bar cover and lift the brush bar out. Pull away any hairs or fibres from the brush bar, checking especially around the ends of the brush bar. If they are tightly wound around the brush, carefully snip the fibres with scissors, being careful not to damage the rotating brush bar, pull away from the rotating brush bar and dispose. Also, check for any blockages to the floorhead suction inlet - if any are noted, clear before replacing the brush bar. Replace the brush bar and cover in their original position. 5

VC73004MUK Rev.qxp_Instruction Book 15/04/016 13:8 Page 6 Emptying the dust canister Empty the dust canister (6) regularly even if it does not look full, this will maintain the performance. 1. Press the dust canister release button (5) and pull the dust canister away from the vacuum cleaner body (3). 5 1 Maintenance WARNING: Always remove the charger from the mains supply and the floorhead from the vacuum cleaner body before undertaking any maintenance or cleaning procedures. Your cleaner is manufactured to withstand normal day-to-day use, but an occasional wipe over with a damp cloth will help maintain its good looks. Take care not to get the electrical connections wet. Abrasive cleaners should not be used. Maintenance - filter. Carefully remove the dust canister filter holder assembly (7) by pulling it straight upwards and out. Empty the dirt from inside the dust canister. Care should be taken not to release the dust until over a bin. At the same time, ensure the top and bottom areas of the filter holder moulding (7c - see image 3) are cleaned and free from dust or other debris. 7 The guarantee may be invalidated if the motor is damaged due to: using the appliance without the filters installed; not cleaning the filters; or not replacing a damaged filter. Cleaning the dust canister filters To maintain suction, the white filter (7a) and the filter holder moulding (7c) in the dust canister filter holder assembly (7) must be cleaned each time the dust canister (6) is emptied. 1. Follow steps 1-3 of Emptying the dust canister.. Pull the filter lid (7b) away from the dust canister filter holder assembly (7) by rotating it so the arrow on the lid aligns with the unlock icon on the filter holder moulding (7c). The white filter (7a) beneath the filter lid must also be removed. 7 3 7c 7a 7b 6 3. It is recommended that the white filter (7a - see image 3) is brushed or tapped clean before refitting on each empty of the dust canister (to access the white filter, see Maintenance - filter section). In addition, the white filter (7a) must be washed monthly as instructed in the Maintenance - filter section. 4. Fit all parts of the dust canister filter holder assembly (7) back together, then refit back into the dust canister by aligning the gap on the dust canister with the ridge on the dust canister filter holder assembly (which is marked with an arrow) and push down securely into the dust canister. 5. Replace the dust canister back into the vacuum cleaner body (3). 3. Every month, wash the white filter (7a) in luke-warm water and thoroughly air dry before re-fitting, as well as cleaning the filter holder moulding (7c). IMPORTANT: Do not wash the filters with hot water or detergents. IMPORTANT: Do not use heated appliances to dry the filter. 4. Return the white filter (7a) into the dust canister filter holder assembly (7) and reattach the filter lid (7b) by rotating it into place so the arrow on the lid aligns with the lock icon on the filter holder moulding (7c). 5. Replace the filter holder assembly (7) into the dust canister (6) then replace the dust canister back into the vacuum cleaner body (3).

VC73004MUK Rev.qxp_Instruction Book 15/04/016 13:8 Page 7 Maintenance - troubleshooting Does not pick-up / Motorised floor-brush running slow or soon stops Check for hairs/fibres that may be wrapped around the rotating brush-bar. IMPORTANT: Remove the brush bar as described on page 5. Fine hairs or fibres may be caught unseen in the ends of the brush bar. Carefully remove the hairs and re-fit the brush bar. Does not pick-up / Suction is reduced In addition to emptying the dust canister (6), it is very important that the dust canister filter (7a) and the filter holder moulding (7c) are regularly and thoroughly cleaned. See page 6 for details of how to access and clean the filter and the filter holder moulding. Does not pick-up from the floor but the floor brush is rotating Switch off the product, remove the motorised floor brush (10) and check for blockages in the connector inlet between the motorised floor brush and the vacuum cleaner body (3). Product not charging Check the charging/power indicator light (4) on the front of the vacuum cleaner body (3) is illuminating to indicate that charging is in process. If the light is not illuminating, check: a) the product is correctly connected to the charger (11) via the charging inlet (8); b) the mains plug is fully fitted into the mains socket and the socket is switched on. If these are OK, check the fuse in the mains plug. Disposal When the product reaches the end of its useful life, it must not be disposed of in normal household Li-ion waste. The product must be disposed of at an authorised recycling plant. The vacuum cleaner should only be disassembled by a competent engineer and the batteries removed and disposed of at an authorised recycling plant. Your local authority will have a centre which accepts such waste for recycling. WARNING: Batteries and products containing batteries must never be disposed of in fires.
