Part of the Farcroft Restorations Group Artisans in CONSERVATION & PRESERVATION

The world s finest heritage When once-loved objects, buildings or interiors lose their shine and brilliance, or can no longer be used, it can be so easy to cast them aside. It takes a special kind of someone to notice them and to gently and lovingly bring them back to their former glory. Renewing and reviving them is more than just re-establishing their faded beauty and lost functionality; it is healing broken hearts, restoring broken dreams, turning back the hands of time... Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it. Confucius Chinese philosopher and reformer (551 BC - 479 BC) www.ravenoakuk.com enquiries@ravenoakuk.com 0845 199 1931

Artisans in Conservation & Preservation

About At Ravenoak, we are passionate about the conservation and restoration of historic and modern architecture and interiors. We believe in preserving what is and what has been - for future generations and to be enjoyed right now. A family-run business with more than 45 years experience, we started out as a small team of specialists in the installation, restoration and conversation of hardwood and engineered flooring. Thanks to our focus on quality craftsmanship, sound business principles and strategic management, we have grown steadily over the years, expanding our expertise to encompass the full range of architectural joinery, stonework, masonry, decorative finishes and more, creating the Ravenoak of today. Today we are proud to play a key role in preserving our nation s cultural heritage by supporting the custodians of our historic buildings to protect the beauty and originality of structural and decorative woodwork and stonework, as well as decorative interior finishes. Our skilled craftsmen are dedicated to repairing and stabilising interiors and exteriors that have been damaged or where their condition has deteriorated over time, bringing them back to their former glory. With bases in London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Preston and Glasgow, we work throughout the UK and internationally. Our clients rely on us, and we are committed to providing them with the highest quality workmanship. www.ravenoakuk.com enquiries@ravenoakuk.com 0845 199 1931

Artisans in Conservation & Preservation Working with Ravenoak is part of Farcroft Restorations Group, a family-run centre of restoration excellence that together offer their clients a complete restoration service. From humble beginnings in the West Midlands, the group has grown over the past five decades to become a leading source for the restoration of fine art and collectables, furnishings, furniture and interiors in the UK, with workshops across the country. Its work is respected by eminent auctioneers, trusted by passionate collectors and relied upon by heritage organisations. Renowned for their dedication, quality workmanship and excellent service, Farcroft Restoration Group s skilled craftsmen have brought back the beauty and functionality of many objects and environments once thought beyond repair. From restoring individual prized possessions to turning back the hands of time for interiors that have suffered widespread damage due to fire, flood or deliberate action.

The master touch At Ravenoak, we pride ourselves on offering our clients unrivalled craftsmanship. We employ only the very best and most skilled people: artisans who are not only specialists in restoration but who work with careful thought and unrelenting passion, pride and loving care, selecting the finest materials and applying the same consideration and dedication to every millimetre of their work. Their meticulous attention to detail, technical expertise and problem-solving abilities enable Ravenoak to guarantee its clients the very best results every time. We aim to meet all our clients architectural and decorative conservation and restoration requirements, but have particular expertise in the following areas: www.ravenoakuk.com enquiries@ravenoakuk.com 0845 199 1931

Artisans in Conservation & Preservation Plastering and mouldings Our team is skilled in a variety of plastering techniques, including lime, lime render, horse hair, lath and plaster, and fibrous plastering. As well as matching original plasterwork in small or large areas of work, we repair damage to ornamental plastering, including cornices, panel mouldings and ceiling roses. Woodwork Having started out as hardwood flooring specialists, we have extensive experience and expertise in working with timber of all kinds. We carry out localised repairs and replace damaged timber, remove unsightly marks including widespread staining, touch out damage to finishes and provide advice on cleaning and maintenance to help prolong the life of the original materials. As well as timber flooring, we apply our expertise to architectural joinery including panelling, staircases and fitted furniture; to wooden carvings and mouldings; and to doors, handrails, thresholds, nosings, skirtings and other trims. Stone, masonry and ceramics We have a team dedicated to the sympathetic restoration and conversation of stone and masonry structures, including floors, walls, columns, frontages and decorative architectural features. Our specialists remove discolouration, staining and soiling; carry out re-pointing; and replace masonry that is crumbling or defective as a result of the effects of weathering. We also work with ceramics, replacing cracked or missing porcelain and terracotta wall and floor tiles with matching new or reclaimed tiles, replacing missing or defective grout, and restoring original finishes. Decorations and period finishing Thanks to an extensive knowledge of period finishing, our team can touch out surface damage and restore most types of finish, including high-gloss lacquers, hand-finished polishes, marquetry inlays and speciallycommissioned painted decorations. Our extensive expertise includes, but is not limited to, gold leaf gilding (water and oil), fine painting and decorating including murals, paint effects graining, marbling, french polishing and sign-writing. We also hang wallpaper and repair or replace fabric walling. Cleaning and maintenance Our maintenance team provides a sympathetic and sensitive deep cleaning service to improve the appearance of areas of a building s fabric by removing unsightly marks and staining. Where necessary, we then apply new coats of finish to restore the area s original sheen. Our experts can also advise in-house teams on the best methods of cleaning and maintenance to help preserve the finish. Surveys and conservation reports We work closely with our clients to help them prolong the life of the original materials and finishes they care for. Our specialists survey the condition of interior and exterior environments and produce a conservation report identifying recommendations and priorities for treatment, enabling clients to decide how best to allocate their repairs budget.

A guiding hand The integrity of our cultural heritage depends in many cases on the care that is taken in preserving and restoring historic buildings. But striking the balance between keeping these buildings intact, beautiful and functioning while retaining their historical integrity can be challenging, and requires a combination of skill and sensitivity. With a large team made up of specialists in all areas of historic building conservation, we are able to assist clients needing help to manage their restoration project - whatever its size or nature. Our input ranges from consultancy on specific areas to supervision and management of the complete restoration project. Among the many services we offer are structural assessments and feasibility studies, change of use planning, expert advice on listed heritage and ecclesiastical building regulations and restrictions, and built interior restoration. To find out more about our project management services, please contact us by calling 0845 199 1931 or email enquiries@ravenoakuk.com. www.ravenoakuk.com enquiries@ravenoakuk.com 0845 199 1931

Artisans in Conservation & Preservation Finishing touches Decorative interior environments should remain as impressive as they were originally created to be, but over time damage can occur. As well as fading due to exposure to light, surfaces can become scratched, dented or marked, while fire, flooding, rising damp, chemical reactions and spillages can cause widespread harm. Our restoration specialists are experts in reversing damage and re-establishing original appearances and surface finishes which reflect the craftsman s intention and retain patination and handling marks - key indicators of use and age that tell the environment s history. Our aim is always to conserve as much as possible of the original materials used and carefully tone any replacement materials to blend with surrounding areas. Our expertise includes, but is not limited to: Fine painting, including murals and specially-commissioned decorations Our fine art team uses specialist conservation processes to stabilise existing surfaces and replicate original finishes. Paint effects Our skilled painters can re-create a variety of effects, including wood graining and marbling. Gilding We carry out both water and oil gilding using gold or silver leaf, using original methods and materials. This includes using genuine 24-carat gold leaf where necessary to maintain authentic value. Veneers - marquetry, parquetry and other inlays When re-laying veneers, our experts painstakingly cut each individual piece by hand, colour it to blend with the original and use specialist glues to bond it to the surface. Polishes Our team can touch out surface damage and restore most types of finish, including high-gloss lacquers and hand-finished polishes. Our expertise includes oriental lacquer and European japanned finishes. Fabrics - tapestries, embroidery panels and fabric walling We provide a specialist cleaning and restoration service for a variety of fabric decorations. This includes using original weaving techniques to repair tears and snags, as well as stain, odour and residue removal.

Remaining true to our roots At Ravenoak, we strive to excel in everything we do. This underlying principle governs all areas of our work and we believe it is our dedication to providing quality craftsmanship that has led us to the position we occupy today as a leading provider of interior and exterior conservation and restoration services. Over the past 45 years we have transformed ourselves from a relatively small team specialising in hardwood and engineered flooring into a national enterprise playing a key role in the preservation of our nation s cultural heritage through our work with the owners and custodians of historic buildings, heritage sites and landmarks. By placing the quality of our work and service at the heart of everything we do, and by remaining true to our core values of honesty, integrity and dependability, we have developed an ever-increasing, loyal portfolio of clientele. Despite our growth, we have not forgotten our roots, and remain the UK s leading provider of specialist flooring services, including heritage conservation and restoration. www.ravenoakuk.com enquiries@ravenoakuk.com 0845 199 1931

Artisans in Conservation & Preservation Heritage timber flooring Timber flooring has always been at the heart of what we do at Ravenoak. We have extensive experience in working with a wide range of timbers, including ash, teak, English oak and more exotic varieties like raintree and mango. We continue to supply, install and restore all types of timber flooring. Our expertise encompasses a wide variety of specialist skills ranging from basic strip and panel floors to the most intricate patterns employing parquetry and inlaid details. Heritage stone flooring Although we have historically focused on timber flooring, our skilled team also installs and restores many types of stone flooring including original flagstones, travertine, limestone, antique quarry tiles, mosaics and slate.

Our clients Museums, heritage organisations and historic estates We work closely with the custodians of historic landmarks, buildings and collections, whether they are individuals or large heritage organisations. As well as repairing accidental and malicious damage caused to interiors and restoring them to their former glory, we also provide ongoing care and support to maintain and preserve environments from deterioration and to protect them from future damage. This includes offering advice on cleaning and maintenance. Our specialists conduct condition assessments and identify priorities for treatment, enabling clients to decide how best to allocate funding for repairs The results of our hard work and dedication are enjoyed on a daily basis by clients ranging from private collectors to the custodians of historical estates, heritage sites and museum collections, as well as by the general public. Specialist insurers As part of Farcroft Restorations Group, Ravenoak works with many specialist insurers and related companies to provide services which complement the Group s restoration offering. We offer insurers complete peace of mind by taking care of entire projects, including contents and buildings, within the Group, fulfilling every need within the claim. We also provide comprehensive conservation reports identifying risks and potential for damage arising gradually from operational use. www.ravenoakuk.com enquiries@ravenoakuk.com 0845 199 1931

Artisans in Conservation & Preservation Private clients Over the years, we have restored and conserved many beautiful and striking interiors on behalf of private clients. As well as revitalising areas that have been damaged or have lost their lustre with time, our skilled team can also provide valuations for insurance, probate or investment purposes. All our restoration work is covered by a guarantee, to ensure total client satisfaction.. Conservation architects and designers We often work with architects, surveyors, building contractors and interior designers looking to revitalise buildings and interiors that have become worn or faded through age or frequent use. We always seek to extend the life, beauty and functionality of these environments wherever we can and do not believe in replacing materials unless it is absolutely necessary, as this can be costly and unnecessarily difficult to do. The vast majority of our work is carried out on site, including timber repairs and the touching-out of damage to other types of hard surface. We offer a no-obligation assessment and quotation, and are happy to offer guidance to clients needing advice on the best solution to meet their needs. Education Since our beginnings, we have always had a strong connection with the education sector, and have provided support and quality workmanship for many educational establishments including independent and state-owned schools, colleges and universities. We have installed and restored many square metres of timber flooring throughout sports halls, dining areas, corridors, classrooms and theatres, ensuring full compliance with regulations governing places of education. Our capabilities include the specialist requirements surrounding sports hall flooring, such as sprung systems, anti-slip areas and acoustic regulations. We are able to provide comprehensive pre- and post-work assessments as necessary, in order to help clients satisfy budgetary and other compliance requirements. International clients Where international travel is required to assess, restore or care for our clients interior and exterior environments, we are more than happy to assist. To discuss your individual requirements, call us on 0845 199 1931 or email enquiries@ravenoakuk.com
