TrueCom Building Communications Systems 5115-Series 5115-9001, -9002 Area of Rescue Communications System Description The Simplex 5115-9001 and -9002 Area of Rescue Communications System provides buildings with a microprocessor based communication system which exceeds the American Disability Acts requirements for Area of Rescue systems. The 5115 provides two way voice communications between an Area of Rescue station and the Master Telephone location, as well as visual indicators for the hearing impaired. The 5115 systems advanced design enables it to be interconnected to the building PBX system via one of its Loop Start Trunk Ports providing unprecedented backup for Emergency calls. 5115 Series Controller Features 24/48 Area of Rescue Call Station Capacity Audible and Visual Indications at Station Two Way Voice Communications Confirmation/Pre-announce/ Communications Active Tones Compatible with Building PBX Compatible with Wireless Notification System Voice Announced Station Identification Number Automatic Emergency Paged Voice Announcement 4 x 20 User Prompting LCD Display The basic -9001 system consists of a metal enclosure, which houses the card frame, CPU, power converter PC board, Graphic I/O PC board, power supply and one 24 point station PC board. (All interconnecting cables and I/O punchblocks are provided to support communications to the 24 Area of Rescue locations.) The -9002 system requires the addition of the 5110-9111 expansion rack, 5120-9338 cable and one 24 point station PC board to support a total system capacity of 48 stations. The 5115 has provisions for connecting up to four Master Telephones. These Master locations are used to receive calls from the Area of Rescue stations. These ports can also be used to connect to the building s phone system. Calls can be directed to any one of these locations by the 5115 CPU. In the event a call goes unanswered at a specific Master, the system can be programmed to forward emergency calls to other Master locations. The calling stations identification number can be announced automatically to specific paging speakers connected to the system to provide additional notification of an Area of Rescue call. When a call is received at the Master Station, the 5115 can provide an audible announcement of the calling stations identification number. The optional 5130-9254 display can be provided with the 5115-9901 enclosure for visual call identification. Area of Rescue stations can be assigned any 2, 3 or 4 digit number for this purpose. Operation When an Emergency call is placed by an Area of Rescue station, the 5115 Master Telephone begins to ring and its display indicates the number of the calling station, along with the priority level of the call. All Area of Rescue stations are displayed at an Emergency level. Communication is established by simply answering the Master Telephone. When voice communications have been completed and the Master Telephone is hung up, the display continues to indicate the station number where the call originated until it has been reset at the remote station. A recessed momentary rocker switch is provided on the station for resetting. A 5130-9255 Console Mount Plate can be provided to mount the 5130-9254 display into any standard 19 Rack console. The Simplex 5115-9610 Area of Rescue station can be located up to 1,000 feet away from the 5100 CPU and requires three pair of 22 gauge commercial grade telephone wire for proper termination. When connected with the Communication Systems CPU, the Area of Rescue station provides both audio and visual indications to the caller. After sensing that a call button has been activated, the CPU begins to flash the LED on the station rapidly and provides a short audible tone over the speaker to indicate that the call has been placed into the system queue. When the call has been answered by the Master Telephone, the LED begins to flash at a slower rate and a dual chime connection tone is heard through the speaker. This dual tone is different from the confirmation tone to eliminate any confusion. At this point, full two way communication is provided between the Area of Rescue station and the Master Telephone. The Simplex system contains an automatic Voice operated switching intercom amplifier (VOX) eliminating the need for push to talk switches. The caller simply talks in the direction of the intercom speaker. After the Master Telephone hangs up, the CPU sends a signal to the LED, keeping it on steady, to provide a visual indication that help is coming. The LED does not extinguish until building personnel have reported to the Area of Rescue and resets the station by pressing the recessed rocker switch. This reset action is necessary to turn the station LED off and to remove the call from the Master Telephones display. The 5115-9610 station can be surface or flush mounted. Surface mounting requires a 5115-9620 back box which is finished with a textured black enamel paint matching the station. It is designed to be mounted to a 2 or 3 gang box. The 5115-9621 is used for flush mounting the -9610 and is painted with the same high quality enamel for protection. 5115-9901 Master Telephone 5115-9610 Remote Station 2 VDS5115-0001

An optional wall mounted display may be provided (5130-9252). The wall display incorporates dual color 2 high LED characters allowing station numbers to be viewed from up to 100 ft. away. All Area of Rescue calls are displayed with red lettering. A printer can be directly connected to the 5115 providing call logging, communications established and all clear messaging. Below is a sample printout for a typical call (Emergency), communications established (Connect), communications ended (Release) and station cleared (ADA Clear). 05/19/95 08:43:15 101 501 EMERGENCY 05/19/95 08:43:33 501 101 CONNECT 05/19/95 08:44:55 101 501 RELEASE 05/19/95 08:46:12 101 ADA CLEAR Typical Printer Output Note: In this example 101 is the Area of Rescue Station and 501 is the Master Telephone. Any 2, 3 or 4 digit number may be used for station or master identification. A 5130-9253 back lit desk mounted display is also available for use with the Simplex 5120-9221 desk mounted Master Telephones. The 5115 can be directly integrated to any Simplex Fire Alarm System providing additional functionality. The 5115 can be enabled or disabled by the Fire system depending on its status. Stations may be bypassed under normal conditions come and become active only when a fire condition exists. This eliminates nuisance calls from stations in remote areas. Additionally, a 5115 system relay can be programmed and connected to the Fire Alarm System to indicate a supervisory condition on the fire system s display, which can only be cleared after resetting all 5115 Area of Rescue stations. The Simplex 5115 system can be directly connected to a wireless pager communication system. Emergency calls can then be directly sent to specific building personnel via their pagers. Wireless paging systems incorporating RS 232 ports and pagers with displays may have ADA station identification numbers directly displayed for instant response. Since the 5115 system is microprocessor based, it can be used to accommodate standard intercom stations. Calls from these locations can be directed to different areas for basic communications within the building. Simplex offers a complete line of peripheral equipment including 8 ceiling or wall mounted speakers as well as a complete line of vandal resistant assemblies. The 5115 can be used to support general paging announcements. It can provide up to 24 individual paging zones accessible from any Master location. Paging is accomplished simply by dialing the zone number on the Master Telephone. 5130-9252 Normal Condition (shown) 5130-9252 Emergency Call (shown) 5130-9255 19 Console Mount For 5130-9254 Display 5130-9253 Desk Mounted Display 5120-9221 Desk Mounted Master Telephone 3 VDS5115-0001
