BELFAST, BT9 6HH
'Crusheen' was designed in 1902 by Vincent Craig for Francis Hunter, linen manufacturer, it was the first house on a new site in Cadogan Park, now part of the Malone Conservation Area. Red brick and rough-cast with half-timber detailing and projecting eaves, it is an attractive example of a house in the 'Edwardian Free Style'. It shows the free approach to house design at the time, with asymmetrical arrangement of various shaped rooms with bays clustered around a central hall, big sweeping roofs and fashionable 'Art Nouveau' patterns in the leaded lights. The house is externally and internally almost entirely intact, and is still in its original setting. This is an important building of significent architectural and historic interest because of its high degree of preservation. It is B+ listed. The property occupies a superb elevated site with an extensive mature and very private rear garden laid in lawns, rose beds, climbing roses, shrubs and a variety of specimen trees, all providing a wonderful profusion of colour. The property now requires modernisation and updating but has been priced accordingly.
