IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed including the following: 1. Read all instructions. 2. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use the handles or knobs to avoid any injuries. 3. To protect against electrical shock do not immerse cord, plugs, or this appliance in water or other liquid. 4. Not intended for use by children. Close supervision is necessary for any appliance being used near children. 5. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts. 6. When you do not use your appliance, always check that nothing is pushing the Toasting levers (C) down. 7. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair or adjustment. 8. The use of accessory attachments, not recommended by the appliance manufacturer, may cause injuries. 9. Do not use outdoors. 10. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces. 11. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven. 12. To shut down your appliance press the Cancel button (D), then unplug from wall outlet. 13. Do not use appliance for other than intended use. 14. Oversize foods, metal foil packages, or utensils must not be inserted in toaster as they may involve a risk of fire or electric shock. 15. A fire may occur if toasters are covering or touching flammable material, including curtains, draperies, walls, and the like, when in operation. 16. Do not attempt to remove food when toaster is plugged in. 17. WARNING - To prevent electric shock, unplug before cleaning SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAUTION n The toaster must always be used in the upright position (not on its side or tilted forward or back) Fig. 15. n Before each use, make sure that the crumb tray is in its proper location. n Regularly remove crumbs from crumb tray. n The toasting lever must be in the raised position before plugging in or unplugging from an outlet. 2

n If bread jams in the slots after toasting, the unit will automatically shut off. Unplug immediately from the outlet and wait for the toaster to cool before attempting to remove DO NOT n Never leave the toaster unattended during operation, particularly when toasting for the first time or when changing settings. n Do not touch the metal parts or hot surfaces of the appliance when it is working. n Do not try to toast breads with ingredients that melt or drip in the toaster (iced breads or stuffed breads) and do not toast very small pieces of bread or croutons as this may damage the appliance or cause a fire. n Do not toast breads thicker than 1 inch in the toasting slots. n Bread can burn; do not cover this appliance while in use and do not use this appliance near any flammable materials such as curtains, under shelving or wall cupboards, etc. It should be attended when in use. n Do not put paper towels, cardboard or plastic in, on or under the toaster. n If flames were to arise from parts of the toaster, never attempt to extinguish them with water. Unplug the appliance and smother the flames with a damp cloth. n Do not use this appliance as a source of heating or drying. n Do not use the toaster for cooking, grilling or defrosting frozen food other than bread products. n Do not unplug appliance by pulling on cord. Instead grasp plug and pull to disconnect. n Never wrap cord around toaster. Fig. 23 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS n For your safety, this appliance complies with applicable technical rules and norms. n Check that the main voltage corresponds to the voltage indicated on the appliance (alternating voltage only). n Use a stable work surface, away from any contact with water and never in a built-in kitchen alcove. n Do not move the appliance when working. 3

POLARIZED PLUGS This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way. SHORT CORD a A short power-supply cord (or detachable power-supply cord) is provided to reduce the risk resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. b Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use. c If a long detachable power-supply cord or extension cord is used, 1) The marked electrical rating of the cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance, and 2) The cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally. BEFORE FIRST USE n Remove any stickers and wipe the body of the toaster with a damp cloth. n Before you use the appliance for the first time, we advise you to let the appliance complete a few toasting cycles without slices of bread on the highest browning setting in a properly ventilated room. n This burns off any dust that may have accumulated on the heating elements and prevents unpleasant smells when toasting bread. 6. TOASTING BREAD n Put the appliance on a stable and flat surface, away from curtains and other combustible materials. Plug the appliance into the wall. n To adjust the length of the cord, wrap part of it round the brackets located on the base of the appliance (Fig. 1). Never let the toaster operate unattended. n Put one or two slices (2 slice model) or one to four slices (4 slice model) of bread in the toaster (Fig. 2 or Fig. 3.). n Select the desired browning setting (Fig. 4). - Select a low setting (1-2) for lightly toasted bread and a higher setting (5-6) for darker toasted bread. - 4 slice model: If you only toast one or two slices of bread, select the desired browning setting for the side where you put the bread. If you toast three or four slice of bread, select the desired browning settings for both sides of the appliance. n Push down the toasting lever to begin the toasting process (Fig. 5). - 4 slice model: If you only toast one or two slices of bread, push down the toasting lever on the side where you put the bread. If you toast three or four slices of bread, push down both toasting levers. - The toasting lever only stays down when the appliance is plugged in and bread is being toasted. n The cancel button will light up (Fig. 6). Caution: The metal parts of the toaster will become hot during toasting. Do not touch them. Note: You can stop the toasting process and pop up the bread at any time by pressing the cancel button on the toaster. n To adjust the browning setting during toasting, turn the browning control. n When the toast is ready, it pops up and the toaster switches off. n Remove the toasted bread. To remove smaller items, move the toasting lever upwards a little further. - If bread gets stuck inside the toaster, remove the plug from the wall socket, let the appliance cool 5

down completely and carefully remove the bread from the toaster. Caution: Do not use a knife or another sharp metal tool to remove bread from the toaster and do not touch the metal internal parts as well as heating elements of the toaster. 7. DEFROST FUNCTION n The toaster has a preprogrammed defrost function : toasting frozen bread takes longer than toasting defrosted bread. n Put one or two slices (2 slice model) or one to four slices (4 slice model) of frozen bread in the toaster. n Select the desired browning setting and push down the toasting lever (see section Toasting bread ). n Press the defrost button (Fig. 7). n The defrost button will light up. 8. REHEAT FUNCTION The toaster has a preprogrammed reheat function that reheats your toast without making it browner. The toasting time is automatic and shorter than a normal toasting cycle, about 30 sec. shorter than the toasting position you choose. n Put the toasted bread back into the toaster. n Push down the toasting lever. n Press the reheat button (Fig. 8). n The reheat button will light up. 9. BAGEL FUNCTION The toaster has a preprogrammed bagel function that toasts the bagel on the cut sides and warms it on the outside. n Insert the bagel as shown (Fig. 9 or Fig. 10.), with the cut sides facing inwards. n Select the desired browning setting and push down the toasting lever (see section Toasting bread ). n Press the BAGEL button (Fig. 11). n The bagel button will light up. 10. CLEANING n Unplug the appliance and let it cool down (Fig. 12). n To remove crumbs from the appliance, gently slide it out from the appliance and empty it (Fig. 13). Caution: Do not hold the appliance upside down and do not shake it to remove the crumbs. n Clean the body of the appliance with a damp cloth (Fig. 14). Danger: Never immerse the appliance in water. Caution: Never use scouring pads, abrasive cleaning agents or aggressive liquids such as petrol or acetone to clean the appliance. Caution: Any other servicing should be performed by an authorized service representative. 6

11. TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM The toaster does not work. SOLUTION Make sure the plug is properly inserted into the wall. Bread gets stuck in the appliance. If the toaster still does not work, take it to a service center authorized by Krups for examination. Unplug the appliance and let it cool down. Carefully remove the bread from the toaster. Take care not to damage the heating elements when you remove the bread. Never use a metal object for this purpose. The toast is too dark/too light. Check the browning setting selected for toasting. Select a lower setting next time if your toast is too dark and a higher setting if your toast is too light. Also check that the Defrost button or Reheat button are not selected. The bread pops up almost immediately without having been toasted. Smoke comes out of the toaster. Make sure you push down the toasting lever all the way. Also check that the Reheat button is not selected. If the bread still does not stay down, take the appliance to a service center authorized by Krups for examination. You may have choosen a browing setting too high. Push the cancel button to stop the toasting process. The cord is damaged. If the cord to this appliance is damaged, it must always be replaced by a service center authorized by Krups. 12. DISPOSING OF YOUR APPLIANCE Your appliance contains valuable materials which can be recycled. Consult your local waste collection center for correct disposal procedure and recycling options. 13. Before returning any defective products to the point of purchase, please call Krups consumer service directly at the phone number below for repair options. Your help to sustain the environment is appreciated! The Warranty This product is guaranteed by Krups for a period of 2 years against any manufacturing defect in materials or workmanship, starting from the initial date of purchase. The manufacturer's warranty by Krups is an extra benefit which does not affect consumer's Statutory Rights. The Krups warranty covers all costs related to restoring the proven defective product so that it conforms to its original specifications, through the repair or replacement of any defective part and the necessary labor. At Krups s choice, a replacement product may be provided instead of repairing a defective product. Krups s sole obligation and your exclusive resolution under this warranty are limited to such repair or replacement. 7

Conditions & Exclusions The Krups warranty only applies within USA, Canada & Mexico, and is valid only on presentation of a proof of purchase. The product can be taken directly in person to an authorized service centre or must be adequately packaged and returned, by recorded delivery (or equivalent method of postage), to a Krups authorized service centre. Full address details for each country s authorized service centre are listed on the Krups website (www.krups.com) or by calling the appropriate telephone number listed below to request the appropriate postal address. Krups shall not be obliged to repair or replace any product which is not accompanied by a valid proof of purchase. This warranty will not cover any damage which could occur as a result of misuse, negligence, failure to follow Krups instructions, use on current or voltage other than as stamped on the product, or a modification or unauthorized repair of the product. It also does not cover normal tear and wear, maintenance or replacement of consumable parts, and the following: -using the wrong type of water -scaling (any de-scaling must be carried out according to the instructions for use); -ingress of water, dust or insects into the product; -mechanical damages, overloading -damages or bad results due to wrong voltage or frequency -accidents including fire, flood, lightning, etc -professional or commercial use -damage to any glass or porcelain ware in the product This warranty does not apply to any product that has been tampered with, or to damages incurred through improper use and care, faulty packaging by the owner or mishandling by any carrier. The Krups manufacturer's warranty applies only for products purchased and used in USA, Canada & Mexico. Where a product purchased in one country and then used in another one: a) The Krups guarantee duration is the one in the country of usage of the product, even if the product was purchased in another listed country with different guarantee duration. b) The Krups guarantee does not apply in case of non conformity of the purchased product with the local standards, such as voltage, frequency, power plugs, or other local technical specifications c) The repair process for products purchased outside the country of use may require a longer time if the product is not locally sold by Krups d) In cases where the product is not repairable in the new country, the Krups guarantee is limited to a replacement by a similar product or an alternative product at similar cost, where possible. Consumer Statutory Rights This Krups manufacturer's warranty does not affect the statutory rights a consumer may have or those rights that cannot be excluded or limited, nor rights against the retailer from which the consumer purchased the product. This warranty gives a consumer specific legal rights, and the consumer may also have other legal rights which vary from State to State or Country to Country or Province to Province. The consumer may assert any such rights at his sole discretion.
