13 SEER Single Package Hea Pump Single Package Hea Pump important: Read his owner informaion o become familiar wih he capabiliies and use of your appliance. Keep his wih lieraure on oher appliances where you have easy access o i in he fuure, if a problem occurs, check he insrucions and follow recommendaions given, if hese suggesions don' eliminae your problem, call your insalling conracor or disribuor in your area. introduction Your hea pump isa unique, all weaher comforconrol sysem appliance. The basic operaion of he heaing/cooling sysem is described and illusraed on page 1of his man ual. The su rprising fac ha hea exiss in air even a below-freezing emperaures is acually he basic law of physics which he hea pump uses o provide energy saving heaing comfor. A oudoor emperaures of 47 Fahrenhei (or 8 Celsius), your hea pump can deliver approximaely 2 o 3 unis of hea energy per each uni of elecrical energy used, as compared o a maximum of only 1 uni of hea energy produced wih convenional heaing sysems. During he cooling season, he hea pump reverses he flow of he heaabsorbing refrigeran o become an energyefficien, cenral air condiioner.

SECTION 1. OWNER INFORMATION SYSTEM SWITCH Your hea pump will hea and cool your home year round, saving your energy dollars. During he summer, a hea pump performs like any normal air condiioner. Tha is, he excess hea energy inside he home is absorbed by he refrigeran and exhaused ouside he home. During he winer monhs, a hea pump performs like an air condiioner run in reverse. Tha is, available hea energy ouside he home is absorbed by he refrigeran and exhaused inside he home. This is an efficien heaing means because you only pay for "moving" he hea from he oudoors o he indoor area. You do no pay o generae he hea, as is he case wih more radiional furnace designs. I is he sole responsibiliy of he homeowner o make cerain ha he hea pump has been correcly se up and adjused o operae properly. The manufacurer warrans he hea pump o be free from defecs in workmanship or maerial for a period of one year. A warrany cerificae wih full deails is included wih he hea pump. However, we will no be responsible for any coss found necessary o correc problems due o improper seup, improper insallaion, adjusmens, improper operaing procedure on he par of he user, ec. Some specific examples of service calls which are no included in he limied warrany are: 1. Correcing wiring problems in he elecrical circui supplying he hea pump. 2. Reseing circui breakers or oher swiches. 3. Adjusing or calibraing of hermosa. To avoid misundersandings a a laer dae, carefully review hese responsibiliies wih your dealer or service company. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS To Operae Your Hea Pump For Cooling -- 1. Se he hermosa sysem swich o COOL and he hermosa fan swich o AUTO. (See Figure 1) 2. Se he hermosa emperaure selecor o he desired cooling emperaure. The oudoor uni fan, he indoor blower, and he compressor will all cycle on and off o mainain he indoor emperaure a he desired cooling level. FAN SWITCH TEMPERATURE SCALES TEMPERATURE Figure 1. I is recommended ha he area o be condiioned be compleely insulaed and vapor sealed. The insaller should comply wih all local codes and regulaions which govern he insallaion of his ype of equipmen. Local codes and regulaions ake precedence over any recommendaions conained in hese insrucions. Consul local building codes and he Naional Elecrical Code (ANSi CI) for special insallaion requiremens. The elecrical supply should be checked o deermine if adequae power is available. If here is any quesion concerning he power supply, conac he local power company. inspecing Equipmen: All unis are securely packed a he ime of shipmen and, upon arrival, should be carefully inspeced for damage. Claims for damage (apparen or concealed) should be filed immediaely wih he carrier. INSTALLATION 1. SELECT THE BEST LOCATION FOR THE HEAT PUMP UNIT IMPORTANT: DO NOT PLACE UNIT UNDER THE HOME. - Selec a solid, level posiion, preferably on a concree slab, slighly above he grade level, and parallel o he home.. OVERCURRENT PROTECTION In general, he bes fuse or breaker for any hea pump is he smalles size ha will permi he equipmen o run under normal use and service wihou nuisance rips. Such a device, sized properly, gives maximum equipmen proecion. The principal reason for specifying a ime delay ype is o preven nuisance rips when he uni sars. In he even ha a fuse does blow or a breaker rips, always deermine he reason. Do no arbirarily pu in a larger fuse or breaker and do no, in any case, exceed he maximum size lised on he daa label of he uni. 3. LOCATING THE THERMOSTAT Locae he hermosa away from drafs and slamming doors and place i where here is a free flow of air. Moun on an inside wall approximaely five fee from he floor. Do no locae near a lamp, kichen range, direc sunligh, or in line wih air flow from supply regisers. DEFROST CYCLE CONTROL The defros cycle is iniiaed via a signal from he defros sensor on he oudoor coil o he defros conrol board inside he conrol panel indicaing he coil emperaure is low enough o sar accumulaing fros. The board has inerval seings of 30 minues, 60 minues, and 90 minues. These ime inervals represen he ime elapsed before defrosing cycle sars and hey are dependen on he climae condiions of he insallaion. A 30 minue seing would be recommended in a mois climae such as Seale, Washingon. A 90 minue seing would be adequae in a dry climae such as souhern Arizona. The facory ime inerval seing is 30 minues. 5. OUTDOOR THERMOSTAT The oudoor hermosa prevens he elecrical auxiliary hea (if used) from operaing above a desired se poin. Selecion of he se poin is deermined from he building design hea load. The hermosa is adjusable from 45 F o 0 F. The facory emperaure seing is a 40 F. 6.
