Insulation Cleaning & Maintenance Warmer in winter, cooler in summer While the glass area of your home may account for about 10% of the external area, it is responsible for up to 30% of unwanted heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer. Effective window insulation can dramatically improve comfort and reduce energy costs. All Luxaflex Softshades offer some degree of window insulation, however and Duette Architella provide the most energy efficiency. The ultimate insulation solution is a fully recessed, revealmounted Duette Architella shade. It will reduce heat transfer through a single-glazed window by 83%** and has the potential to reduce home heating costs by up to 43%^. Comparing and Architella with plain glass The chart below shows R-values for different fabrics and cell types. R-value is the measurement system used to rate efficiency of insulation. Architella Shades R-Values. A product s R-value is a measurement of its ability to resist heat flow. In a home during winter, R-values indicate the ability of walls, roofs and windows to keep the heat inside. The higher its R-value, the more insulation a product provides. A fully recessed, reveal-mounted Architella Shade can increase the R-value of a 3mm single glazed window from 0.13 to 0.78, reducing the heat transfer through that window by 83%. Independent modelling has shown that this in turn can reduce an average home s heating costs by up to 43%^. ** The R-values are the combined measurement of 3mm (one-eighth inch) CI glass (R=0.127) plus the window covering and are reported in metric SI units. For most Duette and Duette Architella fabrics the following options are available should the shade require cleaning. Dusting: Regular light dusting with a feather duster or soft cloth maintains a like-new appearance. Vacuuming: For deeper cleaning, vacuum gently with a brush attachment. Do not vacuum Architella Elan fabrics. Spot Cleaning: Prepare a solution of warm water and a mild detergent. Dampen a clean white cloth in the solution and wring it out. Dab the spot with the dampened cloth until it is gone. Blot gently to avoid creasing or damaging the fabric. Do not rub the fabric. Allow the shade to dry in the completely lowered position. Do not spot-clean Batiste or Aurora fabrics. Ultrasonic Cleaning: Professional ultrasonic cleaning services are an effective means of cleaning translucent Duette and Duette Architella fabrics only. Blockout Duette and Duette Architella fabrics cannot be ultrasonically cleaned. Silhouette Silhouette Shades are made of 100% polyester, which means they are inherently durable and resilient. However, care must be taken to avoid wrinkling the fabric, particularly where the vanes meet the facings. For most Silhouette fabrics the following options are available should the shade require cleaning. Dusting: Regular light dusting with a feather duster is all that is required to keep your shades looking beautiful. Vacuum: Use a low suction, hand-held vacuum for more thorough dust removal. Ultrasonic Cleaning: Silhouette Shades can be ultrasonically cleaned by a professional, with the exception of Bon Soir and Mystique fabrics (room darkening fabrics). Room darkening fabrics cannot be ultrasonically cleaned. Luminette The Luminette sheer, valance and vane fabric are 100% polyester. They are resilient, anti-static and dust resistant. Periodic cleaning is recommended to help keep Luminette looking like new. For all cleaning applications, the shade should remain hanging to minimise handling. Use a feather duster for regular light dusting. For more thorough dust removal, a hand-held vacuum with low suction may be used. When vacuuming avoid pulling or stretching the fabric. Do not use a vacuum cleaner with brush attachment or rigorous vacuuming as either could distort the fabric. Professional Cleaning Service: For optimum results you may choose to have your shades cleaned by a professional cleaning service; please contact your Luxaflex dealer for your nearest provider. Note: When cleaning windows, spray glass cleaner on a cloth rather than spraying directly on the window. This will prevent damage to the fabrics by splattering cleaner. 14 15
